MAGÜI SERNA
NEWS

20th of June, 2002: Sooo, here's the proof: Caz & Bea being childish and changing the scoreboards at B'ham!

BEFORE Caz & Bea

AFTER Caz & Bea

19th of June, 2002: Magüi lost today against Chanda Rubin 2-6 2-6. So we move on to Wimbledon... you can see the Doubles Draw (with Alicia Molik) and the Singles Draw in those links... meanwhile, here's a pic of Magüi yesterday, wearing a Spanish football t-shirt (which looks very red to me, but maybe she was showing support for the Korean team - well done beating those Italian cheaters!!! ). BTW, in the pic, that's Silvia Farina kneeling at Magüi's feet (she isn't worthy ) and the other is none other that our dearest Julie Pullin!!!!!! (LOL!! - you'll have to hear about Julie Pullin in Caz's report from B'ham!! - coming soon!).

18th of JUN

18th of June, 2002: Hey guys! I am back for a bit, so let me try to update everyone on what has been going on! we went to Roland Garros, but got there too late, since by Thursday Magüi had already lost in the singles (lost in three sets to Nicole Pratt (AUS)), so we only got to see her in the dubs, where she made it to the QF playing with Alicia Molik. After that, Magüi went to Birmingham where she lost in the 2nd round to Pullin (GBR), although Caz and myself did a bit of rearraging in the scoreboard so that it looked as if Magüi had won, I took pics of that, so hopefully, I'll show you the BEFORE and AFTER we went to B'ham (again too late to see Magüi play).

This week Magüi plays Eastbourne where she made it to the final last year, so she's defending a million points (more or less ). Mel (of the original 6 Magüi Maniacs) is staying there this week and just let me know that apparently Magüi knows about this website! so I was informed by Mel I should update! hehehe. Magüi def. Prakusya today in the first round who came from the qualifying and will be playing either Rubin or Tanasugarn in the 2nd round, both of them very tough opponents. In the dubs, Magüi played with Patty Schnyder and they lost to Hantuchova/Meghann (can't spell her surname, sorry! lol) in the first round. Good luck!! and everyone keep checking the site, since I will be adding the RG and B'ham reports to it in the next few days (before leaving for Wimbledon!).

26th of May, 2002: Magüi lost in the QF of Madrid to Chanda Rubin, but she was playing well, so let's hope she can do well at Roland Garros. Because we move on to the second Grand Slam of the 2002 season! Roland Garros starts tomorrow morning!! isn't it exciting?

Caz, Mel and myself (Bea) are planning to make an apperance at RG this year too. We are planning on going from Thursday to Monday, and hopefully if Magüi is doing well, she'll still be in by then! You can check the singles draw here, Magüi is in the bottom half of the draw and faces Nicole Pratt in the first round, a tough match but Magüi can do it! Good luck. Also the doubles draw and the mixed draw will be available on those links.

22nd of May, 2002: Magüi is playing the Madrid Open this week, and she's already into the QF!! She defeated Iva Majoli in a tight three setter in the first round and today, she defeated Nicole Pratt more clearly, she faces Chanda Rubin tomorrow for a place in the SF! good luck Magüi!!! Also thinks are looking pretty good in the doubles, Magüi is playing with Alicia Molik (AUS) and they defeated Ramon/Riera in two comfortable sets.

16th of May, 2002: Magüi lost in the 2nd round to Myskina of Russia 6/2 6/7[4] 6/2... a well fought match, but Magüi seems to have problems in the third sets. In the dubs competition, Magüi and Oremans are still in (they defeated Krizan/Srebotnik in the first round 6/4 5/7 6/4) and will now play DE LOS RIOS-NEFFA/OSTERLOH[Q] for a place in the quareterfinals.

13th of May, 2002: Hey guys, sorry for the delay, Magüi plays Rome this week (no website, sorry!), and she's already through to the second round after defeating CAMERIN 6/3 6/4- In the doubles she plays with Oremans this week and they face a difficult team in the first round: Krizan / Srebotnik, I wish she could find a more stable dubs partner so that they could figure out some tactics!

5th of May, 2002: The draws for Berlin are already out! In the singles draw, Magüi will play against a qualifier in the first round, in the doubles draw, Magüi plays with Panova this week and they face Bedanova/Schiavone in the first round. Good luck Magüi!!!!

4th of May, 2002: Hey guys, I am back from the EAA conference! Magüi played this week in Hamburg, defeating Tatiana Panova (who had defeated her quite clearly earlier in the year) in the first round 7-5 6-1. In the second round Magüi lost to Daniela Hantuchova 6-7 3-6. Apparently Magüi is finally finding her form this year, all those matches in Portugal sure helped! In the dubs, Magüi played with Nicole Pratt but unfortunately they drew Black and Likhovtseva in the first round, one of the toughest teams right now and lost 1-6 6-4 3-6, seems like Magüi is improving a lot in the dubs recently! well done against a tough pair! Now Magüi plays Berlin, Rome and Madrid before the French Open! Next week we move to Berlin! good luck Magüi!!!

14th of April, 2002: Now you can visit the Magüi conquers Portugal Gallery!

ok, ok guys, brace yourselves for this piece of news!

Magüi won the 2002 Estoril Open!!

She defeated Anca Barna (Q) from Germany in two sets 6-4 6-2, after having quite a few match points to finish the match, she finally closed it out defeating Barna for the second week in a row, this time getting the first title of her carreer as a reward! Congratulations Magüi!!! Believe in yourself because this is the kind of stuff you can produce and expect from yourself! Vamos!

What a great couple of weeks! next, Magüi plays Hamburg (GER), Berlin (GER) and Rome (ITA)... and hopefully, Madrid after that! now a week's rest for Magüi and time to enjoy this title.

9th of April, 2002: Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to update, but as I said, updatings are going to be fewer during the "summer madness" time! Magüi did extraordinarily well in Porto and got to another final (second year in a row), but Montolio managed to get past her, defeating Magüi 7-5 in the third set. A great performance by Magüi, who has proven this week that she's got what it takes to be a great player in a surface that is not her favourite. Well done Magüi! In the doubles, Magüi and Boogie were sooo close, but came up just short too, and lost in the final to Black and Selyutina. There is a bunch of pics from this week that I have managed to collect from the oficial Porto open website, I promise when I come back from my conference in Manchester on Saturday I will show you guys all of them!

Meanwhile, you can follow Magüi results in Estoril! This week she's playing again in Portugal and she already won her first match defeating Gubacsi (who she also defeated in Porto [see below]) 1-6 6-4 6-3, she now plays Cervanova (who she also defeated in Porto last week), for a place in the QF. Good luck! In the dubs, Magüi plays with Mariajo Martínez this week and they face Boogie and Oremans in the first round... a VERY tough team, but good luck to the Spanish duo.

3rd of April, 2002: Magüi def Anca Barna 4-6 6-3 6-4!! this is good news! Magüi normally seems to find it hard to come back after losing the first set, but this is a really good win! also Magüi and Boogie won their doubles match, so things are looking up in Portugal!

Magüi and Boogie now play Valentina Sassi and Renata Voracova in the next round. In sigles Magüi will play in the QF the winner of the match between Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian and Ludmilla Cervanova.

1st of April, 2002: Magüi plays the Porto Open (Porto Portugal) this week, where she is defending quite a few points and is seeded N.3. Things have started with a good win over Perebiynis in the first round: 6-2 7-5 for Magüi. The rival in the next round will be tougher, she will play the winner of the match between BARNA, Anka and SELYUTINA, Irina. In the dubs, Magüi plays with Boogert this week and they are seeded No.2. They will face Kostanic and Talaja in the first round. Good luck and vamos Magüi!

Earlier than the previous years, I have to say that summer madness is already here. Meaning, I am going to be travelling all over Europe to different accounting&finance conferences starting next week, presenting my papers and doctoral proposals, so no idea of how often the site will get updated, I'll try my best though, I hope I can see some of the Madrid Open, and squeeze a quick trip to Roland Garros sometime in between... I'll be at Wimbledon for sure though!

A couple of pics of Magüi from earlier today:
