22/07/02:Spain in the Fed Cup semifinals!. Spain has defeated Germany by a clear 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Magüi could finally take part in this tie, playing the fifth match, the doubles one, and defeating together with Vivi Lamade/Rittner by 6-3 and 6-3. CONGRATULATIONS SPAIN !! .

19/07/02:Bad news. It seems that Mico has 'forgotten' Magüi again, and, although Magüi was the number two of the Spanish Fed Cup team, Magüi won't play any of the singles matches and neither the doubles match (although everything will depend on how the tie goes). Well, let's see if Magüi has finally a chance and good luck to Spain during this weekend.

14/07/02:Friday was a bad day for Magüi, because she lost in singles and doubles, both matches in three sets. First she lost to Arantxa by 3-6, 6-2 and 6-2. A shame, because Magüi has won the first set in her last two matches against Arantxa, but finally she has lost the match. Later Magüi and Vivi lost in doubles by 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2. The next tournament for Magüi will be next weekend, where Magüi is the number 2 of the Spanish Fed Cup team, so we hope she can play some matches (on Friday we'll know the order of play for this tie). The following week she'll play in Sopot, Poland. ¡¡ÁNIMO!!.

12/07/02:Magüi and Vivi won in doubles and they are already in the semifinals, where they'll play today Schwartz/Woehr (fourth match on Center Court). In singles, Magüi will finally play against Arantxa. It's the second match on Center Court (the first one starts at 12 h). Let's see if Magüi can reach again the semifinals. Magüi and Vivi will play tomorrow in doubles.

09/07/02: Magüi has started well in Belgium, defeating the Italian Garbin in a close match by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4. In the second round she'll play on Wednesday against the winner of the match between the Dutch Boogert and the Spaniard Mariam Ramón. Magüi and Vivi play today in doubles against Dhenin/Martincova. 27/06/02: Magüi and Alicia have lost to Callens/Shaughnessy by 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (7-2), a shame. Magüi will play next some tournaments on clay, the first one in two weeks in Brussels, and the following week we hope that she will be one of the four players that will play the quarterfinals of the Fed Cup against Germany in Mallorca.

26/06/02: In theory Magüi and Alicia should have played yesterday their first-round doubles match against Callens/Shaughnessy, but this match will finally be played tomorrow. It's the second match on court 15 (the first one starts at 12 h, local time). GOOD LUCK!!!. Magüi won't play this year in mixed doubles.

24/06/02: Bad news :(:(. Magüi hasn't had her day and has lost to the Italian Rita Grande by a clear 6-1 and 6-3. 18/06/02: Wimbledon's draw has already been released and Magüi hasn't been very lucky, because she'll play the Italian Rita Grande in the first round, always a tough rival, but let's hope Magüi does well. The double's draw hasn't been favourable, because Magüi and Alicia Molik will play the 13th-seeded, Callens/Shaughnessy, in the first round.

17/06/02: Things didn't go well in Eastbourne. Magüi and Patty have lost in the first round in doubles by 6-3 and 6-2.  Let's hope that things go much better in singles. 11/06/02: Good news!. Magüi has got the first win of the season on grass after defeating Baltacha by 6-1 and 6-3, in a match that had been suspended by rain in the second set. In the second round she will play another British, Julie Pullin, who has given the surprise today defeating the junior champion of Roland Garros. It's the second match on Centre Court (the first one starts at 11 h, local time).

03/06/02: It wasn’t possible. Magüi and Alicia have lost in the third round in doubles by 6-3, 2-6 and 6-3, so Roland Garros is over for Magüi. The grass season starts next week, and Magüi will play the two tournaments in England before Wimbledon (Birmingham and Eastbourne) to play later the third Grand Slam of the year, Wimbledon, where we hope she has a good performance. 07/05/02: Bad news. Magüi has lost a match that seemed almost won. The final result has been 6-4, 5-7 and 6-4, but Magüi was leading by 4-0 (and she has had later some point for 5-1) in the third set. Well, let's hope Magüi can recover soon from this disappointment and that next week the good results are back again. ¡¡ÁNIMO!!. The doubles match will be finished tomorrow. 28/04/02: Finally Magüi has had a chance and she has won the fourth match of the tie, the decisive point for the qualification of Spain for the quarterfinals against Germany in July. 25/04/02: It seems Magüi won't play any of the singles matches in the Fed Cup, because the captain of the Spanish team has decided that Ángeles Montolio will be the number 2 of the team. A shame because Mico had commented that both Ángeles and Magüi had the same chances to play, but Ángeles is better ranked. Let's hope Magüi can play at least in doubles.

After the Fed Cup, Magüi will play in Hamburg (the tournament starts next Tuesday), Berlin, Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros.

21/03/02: Well, it seems there’s no way of winning a match...Magüi lost yesterday unexpectedly to Webb by a clear 6-3 and 6-2. Well, let’s hope Magüi can recover soon the confidence in her game and can get good results from now on. ¡¡VAMOS!!.

20/03/02: Finally Magüi will play today her first-round match. It will be the second match on court 6 (the first one starts at 11h, local time). Her rival will finally be the Canadian Vanessa Webb. We hope that Magüi is lucky and can win a match at last. BTW, Magüi will play in doubles with Nagyova. They play the tough team Dechy/Tu in the first round. GOOD LUCK!!.

18/03/02: Miami's draw has been released. Magüi will play a qualifier in the first round (probably on Thursday). Let's see if things improve and we can see Magüi winning matches again. ¡¡VAMOS!!.

10/03/02: Magüi couldn't defeat the Slovak Husarova and lost by 6-3 and 6-3. Well, Magüi is in a slump, let's hope she can stop with it and can do well in Miami, tournament that begins in ten days. ¡¡VAMOS!!.

08/03/02: Magüi and Conchita lost to Vivi and Paola by 6-3 and 6-3. Tomorrow Saturday, Magüi plays the Slovak Husarova in singles. ¡¡VAMOS!!.

06/03/02: Magüi won't play in singles till Friday. In doubles, Magüi will play again with Conchita Martínez after their great performance at the Australian Open, although they will have quite difficult, because their first match is against the seeds number 3, Virginia Ruano and Paola Suárez.

05/03/02: Magüi is the seed number 21 in Indian Wells, so she has a BYE in the first round. In the second round she'll play a qualifier or the Slovak Husarova. GOOD LUCK!!.

26/02/02: :(:(:(. Magüi has lost to Panova by a clear 6-1 and 6-2, which is going to suppose an important fall in the rankings, because Magüi did very well last year. Well, let's hope she does better in the next tournaments. The next two tournaments for Magüi will be Indian Wells (it starts next Wednesday) and Miami. After these tournaments, Magüi will come back to Europe to play two tournaments on clay in Portugal. ¡¡ÁNIMO MAGÜI!!.

26/02/02: Things haven't started well in Scottsdale. Magüi and Barbara have lost in the first round by 6-4 and 6-2. Today Magüi plays Panova. It's the second match at the Clubhouse (the first one starts at 10 h, local time). Let's hope things go better. ¡¡VAMOS!!.

24/02/02: Magüi will play on Tuesday the Russian Tatiana Panova in the first round in Scottsdale. Today she plays in doubles with the Austrian Schett. They play the Spanish team Marta Marrero/MJ Martínez in the first round. Let's see if things go well.

18/02/02: Magüi will play next week in Scottsdale, USA, where she had last year a very good performance, defeating the Belgian Justine Henin (who was, by the way, her doubles partner in that tournament) in the first round. By the way, during Scottsdale will be Magüi's birthday (on the first of March she'll be 23), so, if someone wants to send her a message wishing her a happy birthday, he/she can send it to us to the following address crisl1999@yahoo.es and we'll forward it to her. Let's hope many people write to her, we are sure that she will love it.

05/02/02: Magüi's doubles result is confusing. At first it seemed that Magüi and Schett had won by 6-4 and 6-4, but now it seems the right score is that they have lost by 6-4 and 6-4. Let's see when we can confirm this. Magüi will play tomorrow at 12 h (it's the first match on court 1) her match against Serra-Zanetti. GOOD LUCK!!.

04/02/02: Magüi's rival in the first round will finally be the Italian Adriana Serra-Zanetti. They'll play on Wednesday. In doubles, Magüi will play with the Austrian Schett (they are the third-seeded), and they'll play tomorrow against Dhenin/Poutcheck in the first round (it's the second match on court 1). 29/01/02: Bad news. Magüi has lost to Schett by a clear 6-1 and 6-3, so she leaves the tournament in the first round. But let's see how things go in doubles with Asa. They play tomorrow. It's the last match on court 1. COME ON!!.

28/01/02: Magüi will play tomorrow her first-round match against the Austrian Barbara Schett. It's the second match on court 2 (the first one starts at 11 h in Tokyo, 3 h in Spain). In doubles, Magüi plays again with the Swede Asa Svensson, and they'll play (although not tomorrow) the difficult team Dokic/Tulyaganova in the first round. GOOD LUCK!!.

23/01/02: GREAT NEWS!!. Magüi and Conchita have defeated Coetzer/McNeil by a clear 6-0 and 6-2, so they are already in the semifinals, where they'll play Arantxa and Hantuchova, seeds number 13. 22/01/02: Magüi and Conchita will finally play the team Coetzer/McNeil, seeds number 10, in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. This will be tonight, from 1 in Spain, 11.00 h in Melbourne. It's the first match on court 3. COME ON GIRLS!!. Let's reach the semis!!.

21/01/02: Rain hasn't allowed to play many matches today in Melbourne, so we'll have to wait till tomorrow to know Magüi and Conchita's rivals in the quarterfinals. They will be the winners of the match Testud/Vinci-Coetzer/McNeil, in any case, tough rivals. Added Australian Open pics here.

20/01/02: GREAT!!. Magüi and Conchita have reached the quarterfinals after defeating Grandin/Van Exel by a clear 6-2 and 6-1. It's the first time that Magüi reaches the quarterfinals in a Grand Slam in doubles. We'll have to wait till tomorrow to know their rivals. 19/01/02: It wasn't possible. Magüi hasn't had a good day and has lost to Dementieva by a clear 6-1 and 6-2. As positive thing, Magüi has reached the third round of this Grand Slam after some years. And the positive news of the day is that Magüi is still in the competition because they've won in doubles by 6-3 and 6-4. Tomorrow Magüi and Conchita will try to reach the quarterfinals against Grandin/Van Exel. It will be the first match on court 18, at 13 h in Melbourne (3 a.m. in Spain). GOOD LUCK!!.

18/01/02: Magüi will play her third-round match against Dementieva tomorrow. It's the third match on court 2. The first match on this court starts at 11 h in Melbourne, 1.00 h in Spain. 17/01/02: GREAT!!. Magüi has defeated the Italian Camerin by 6-3 and 6-3, so she is already in the third round, where she'll face the Russian Elena Dementieva, seed number 12. ¡¡VAMOS MAGÜI!!. Later, Magüi and Conchita have defeated Nagyova/Tulyaganova in a very close match by 7-6 (7-4) and 6-4, so a perfect day for Magüi. In the second round they'll play the difficult French team Dechy/Loit. We'll have to wait till tomorrow to see the order of play, but it seems Magüi will play both matches on Saturday. 16/01/02: Magüi plays tomorrow Thursday her two matches. In the second round in singles she plays the Italian Camerin. It's the second match on court 16, after the match between Grande and Boogert, which starts at 10 h in Melbourne (0.00 h in Spain). Later she'll play in doubles her first-round match. 15/01/02: GREAT NEWS!!. Magüi has got her first win of the season in singles after defeating the Australian Amanda Grahame by 6-3 and 6-3 in the first round at the Australian Open. In the second round she'll play the Italian Mª Elena Camerin. ¡¡VAMOS!!. On Thursday she'll play in singles and doubles.

14/01/02: Magüi will play on Tuesday at the Australian Open against the Australian Amanda Grahame. It's the first match on court 18 and starts at 0.00 h in Spain (10 h in Melbourne). Let's hope things go well. In doubles, Magüi will finally play with the Spaniard Conchita Martínez. They are the seeds number 15 and will play Nagyova/Tulyaganova in the first round.

11/01/02: The Australian Open draw has been already released. Things seem to be quite good for Magüi. She’ll play the Australian Grahame (wildcard) in the first round and if she wins, and that’s what we hope, she’ll play the winner of the match Obata-Camerin in the second round. The first seed she should play is the Russian Dementieva, in the third round. Let’s hope things go well. ¡¡¡VAMOS!!!. BTW, bad news for Magüi in doubles. The Russian Nadia Petrova, who was going to play with her, is injured, so she’ll have to look for another partner. It’s incredible how unlucky is being Magüi lately in the doubles in the Grand Slams...

09/01/02: What a shame!. Magüi and Asa have lost to Farina/Schett in another close match. The score has been: 6-7(0-7), 7-6(9-7) and 6-3. Well, we hope that Magüi’s draw at the Australian Open (which will be released next Friday) is good. ¡¡VAMOS!!.

08/01/02: Well, things went much better in doubles. In a really close match, Magüi and Asa have defeated Oremans/Testud by 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 and 7-6 (7-3), so Magüi gets this way her first win of the year. In the second round, Magüi and Asa will play the always difficult team Farina/Schett. That will be tomorrow, the fifth match on court 2 (the first one starts at 11 h, local time). BTW, with the final absence of Davenport at the Australian Open, Magüi will be, in principle, the seed number 23 at the Australian Open, in the draw that will be done next Friday.

07/01/02: Bad news from Australia. Magüi has lost to Lisa Raymond by 6-1 and 6-1. A really bad result to start the season, but come on Magüi for the Australian Open, this has just started. Tomorrow Magüi and Asa will play their first-round doubles match. It's the second match on court 8 (the first one starts at 14 h, local time).

06/01/02: Magüi will finally play the American Lisa Raymond, always a tough rival, in the first round. They'll play the fourth match on court 2 (around 6.00 h in Spain). In doubles, Magüi and Asa will play Oremans/Testud in the first round. BTW, if there aren't late withdrawals, Magüi will be the seed number 24 at the Australian Open.

05/01/02: Sydney's draw should be already published, but there are many difficulties to find it, so we'll have to wait to know who will be Magüi's first rival and if she plays tomorrow or not (it seems she'll play a qualifier, and she won't play tomorrow, but it isn't confirmed). What seems sure is that if she wins, she'll have to play the Swiss Martina Hingis in the second round. And what also seems to be confirmed is that she'll play in doubles with the Swede Asa Svensson (before Asa Carlsson). Well, let's hope things go well in the first tournament of the year. ¡¡VAMOS MAGÜI!!.

30/12/01: It seems, Magüi’s doubles partner in Sydney could be the Swede Asa Carlsson, because the player that is going to play some doubles tournaments with Magüi this season, the Russian Nadia Petrova, doesn’t play this tournament. BTW, it’s almost sure that Magüi will have a very tough draw in this tournament, because she has been the last player to enter directly in the main draw. So, let’s hope she is lucky and can start the year with a great win.

30/12/01: Magüi is about to start the season. These are, in principle, her first tournaments of the year: she’ll start in Australia, with the tournaments of Sydney (which starts on January, 6) and the Australian Open. Later she’ll go to Japan to play in Tokyo, and later she’ll play the indoors tournament in Paris. Later, some weeks of ‘rest’ and she’ll go to the USA to play the tournaments of Scottsdale, Indian Wells and Miami.

26/12/01: The season 2002 is about to start. Next week there are two WTA tournaments, although Magüi won't play any of them. But these two tournaments are important because, once played, we'll know the 32 seeds for the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. We know that Magüi will be one of them, but we'll have to wait a bit to know which seed she'll finally be.
