"Od tir'e, od tir'e kama tov yi-ye,
Bashana, bashana haba-a"
- Naomi Shemer
My Brother Alephs,
I thought that this would be a nice way to start off my first
release as the Aleph Godol of Mandel Bloomfield AZA #121, what
with Rosh Hashanah approaching fast (next Saturday), and the
Mandel Bloomfield 1999-2000 programming year starting out on
the 16th with Jell-O Wrestling. I'm also big into that
starting-over, new beginning stuff, and I'm looking forward to
a great year for the Mandel Bloomfield Aardvarks as we have 13
AIT's ready to join us in this grand order that links young
Jewish-men from all across the world in this great Jewish
youth movement. Anyway, so far everything has been great: I
was installed last as our chapter's Aleph Godol, inserting
into my mouth a piece of chapter history that has seen the
horrors of inside of Sean Parker's (and many a-past Godol's)
ass!
As of the time that
I am sitting at my computer writing this release, we have had
two executive board meetings, and they've gone great.
Programming for this upcoming year is looking great, and I
know that those non-tender-bummed AIT's (I think that I know a
few Alephs who will remedy that) are excited for this, their
first year in AZA, to begin. Well, wait no longer my eager
Brothers, as the enclosed calendar states, we have a month
jam-packed with programs that will surely put an end to your
eager(like the Beaver)ness.
We have a business
meeting this month that's going to be great. A few guys on the
board and I are proposing some new motions that will see to it
that our chapter makes moderate but needed change in this
upcoming year (hence, "Starting anew face to face with
destiny). This will be the first chapter business meeting that
I will attend as our chapter's Aleph Godol, and the first time
that I will get to say, "One present, zero voting"
(or is that… nevermind). I'm also really pumped about our
annual ping-pong tournament that will be held at Gary
Galante's house on the 25th. In my AIT year, I came 3rd in the
tournament, and last year I came second. So this year I'm
gunning for the big one, the right to win over $30 dollars in
prize money and willingly donate it back to the chapter
(although, I think a few guys will have something to say about
that, eh Snow?).
I would also like
to talk about our phoning tree brought to you by yours truly,
Spank Man Kitay, and Kaiser Vilhelm Sversky I. The Alephs on
the phoning committee know whom they are calling (and if they
don't, it's right there on the tree), and I'll also go over it
at our first business meeting. I cannot stress enough that if
any Aleph has a problem, talk to your caller, and for a good
time call … If you have any further questions, comments,
problems, or just want to talk, don't hesitate to call me - I
am very lonely.
One program that I
am very excited about this month is our AIT Training Program
on the 30th, which can be attended by all members who want to
smooth over their understanding of our wonderful organization.
This program though, is mostly for the AIT's, as it is the
beginning of their AIT Program that we are implementing so
that they may learn how to be Alephs in the AZA, as the
success of Mandel Bloomfield depends on it. A large membership
(which we have with 32 members) is good, but it is more
important for us to have a dedicated and passionate group of
members. This once again illustrated that "quality is
more important than quantity" (or isn't it that
"it's not the size that counts but how you use it?"
I guess we'll never know"). This dedication and passion
for the AZA and Mandel Bloomfield, is what separates #121 from
all of the other chapters in our region (or at least separates
us from the other chapters in Edmonton, i.e. Abe C.).
We must not only
recruit our new members, but we must also be able to direct
and harmonize the young (and innocent) leadership that we are
gaining and already possess, while adapting to the needs of a
changing and more diversified society. Mandel Bloomfield AZA
#121 will only survive if we give our younger members the
tools necessary to meet the challenges of the future.
My Brother Alephs, I envision a Mandel B. that is programming
in all 5 folds, has a knowledge about the history and
traditions of this chapter and the AZA, and strong members to
lead the chapter into the new millennium. Remember that, we
are not just members of a youth organization, we are members
of a fraternity, and not just any fraternity, but the
"fraternity of the AZA" - we are Alephs in the Aleph
Zadik Aleph.
We have some
problems, but you can help solve them because you are capable
of so much. Remember that. Advisors are there to advise,
supervisors are there to supervise, and directors to direct,
but you are what this order is about. The basic unit of AZA is
also its most important - the individual Aleph. Don't ever
forget that.
Fraternally Submitted,
