Letter to Mother 1

December 12, 1982
Dear Mom,

How is everything? I hope you are doing well. I am so glad that you are coming in for Christmas-you can help me with Amanda’s presents!

Speaking of Amanda, she has been acting so strange lately. She has always talked to the baby, but just the other day, she removed her little hear from my stomach and said, as sure as can be, “She is a girl. Her name is Sarah.” Bill and I were blown away. And two weeks ago, I found a page in my day planner, December 30th, to be exact, covered with red crayon scribbles. I was furious-Amanda knows better than to color in things that aren’t her coloring books. When I approached her about it, ready to scold her, she says to me, “Mom, I just wanted to draw Sarah a picture for her Birthday, it is on that day.” My due date isn’t until January 4th! Maybe it is just a little girl’s crazy talk, but if it is true, I will be shocked.

So obviously, she is very excited about the baby. Bill and I tell her that we will love her and the new baby equally, that nothing will change, except that she will have a new friend. Honestly, I don’t think she needs it. She hasn’t acted the least bit jealous, moody or unhappy. Maybe it won’t hit her until she actually sees the baby’s face…Hmm, something to think about.

I hope everything will be fine.
I love you.
Judy
