During that summer though more medical problems arose and I had to go to a bunch of doctor appointments for cellulites and was also diagnosed with lymphedema which really sucked because it caused me to gain a lot of weight and had me freaking out because of the deal Dr. Sarr and I had made. But my mom and family all kept trying to reassure me that he wouldn't back out of the surgery on me because it was a medical condition that cause the weight gain.
I finally got a surgery date set for November 29, 2002 which I was both excited and terrified about. In October I had a bunch of appointments set up for my final pre-op testing and etc. I had to go in for blood work and an EKG and to meet with Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Sarr. When I went and seen Dr. Kennedy he was upset about the weight gain. I was up to 575 pounds by then but he agreed with the diagnosis of lymph edema and then when it was time to meet with Dr. Sarr it was a majorly tense and nervous time. Because I was scared that even though I had lymphedema and stuff he would still back out on me. So anyways we got there on time and was taken back to an office to talk to him. We spent almost three hours waiting for him to show up and when he finally did he told us that they had been trying all day to get a hold of us to tell us to not bother showing up because he decided that he was not going to do the surgery because I didn't keep my end of the deal. But then we told him of all my doctors' visits that summer and being diagnosed with lymphedema and so then he examined me himself and agreed that the lymphedema was the cause of the weight gain and also agreed to still do my surgery. Which made me happy, and so then I had a month to go through major emotions up until about a week before my scheduled date when I got a call from my surgeon's office asking me if it would be possible for me to come in the morning to have my surgery done. I right away with out thinking or considering anyone else said, "YES are you joking me of course I can." I almost screamed in the poor woman's ear I was so excited. And so after getting the details of time, place and etc. I hung up with her and started crying and screaming and was just a huge ball of emotions. And then got on the phone and started making calls. The first person I called was my mom who was out running errands. I said, "Mom where are you?" and she told me that she was at the store. And then I asked her if she could take me to Rochester in the morning for an important meeting and she asked what for and I told her that Dr. Sarr's secretary had just called and said that they wanted to do my surgery then and I said yes. She said ok and got off the phone and started running around like a chicken with its head cut off getting the stuff that I needed which we had not gotten yet cuz we thought that I still had a week. I then got on-line and told everyone that plans had changed and that I was going in the morning for surgery and also talked to my two angels, one of which was coming down to meet me at the hospital. I also called other people in town letting them know. One was the wife of a guy in my local support group. She came over that evening with a card and a bear for me and wished me luck. I was so excited and nervous that night that I got almost no sleep that night.
