Habitats using "Little Polar Bear" by Hans De Beer
Objective: Students will be able to begin to classify animals into their designated habitats.
Anticipatory Set: Who remembers what this book was about? Think about the pictures in the book.

Materials
- "Little Polar Bear" by Hans De Beer
- black construction paper
- white crayons
- glue
- cotton balls
Procedure
- Write "habitat" on the board and ask if anyone knows the definition of the word.
- Review pictures in " The Little Polar Bear" and ask the class to pay close attention to how the pictures change.
- List changes throughout the book on the board.
- pages 1-5 snow, ice, cold
- Pages 6-18 beach, palm trees, sand, etc.
- pages 19-21 snow again
- page 22 contrast of polar environment and rainforest
- Refer back to the word habitat that is written on the board and talk about the habitat of animals of the Polar Regions.
- Habitat- an area or environment which something is normally found.
- Review which animals live in the Polar Regions.
- Explain the activity of showing a polar habitat using black paper, white crayons and construction paper.
- Show an example of the picture.
- Explain that by pulling the cotton out makes it last longer.
Assessment
- Questions throughout the lesson.
- What animals do they have in their pictures?
