Birds and Mammals of the Polar Regions
Objective: Students will be able to identify other animals in the Polar Regions by classifying them into mammals and birds.
Anticipatory Set: Can anybody tell me what this word written on the board is? (Mammal)
Materials
- "Polar Animals" by Paul Hess
- pictures of all the animals shown in the book
- worksheet with various animals shown
Procedure
- Review some characteristics of mammals.
- Read "Polar Animals" by Paul Hess
- Using pictures of each animal classify animals into birds and mammals on the board.
- Talk about the differences between birds and mammals.
- After all the animals are placed on the board the worksheet and directions will be reviewed.
- Review all the animals on the worksheet.
- Read poem that they can illustrate after they are finished with the worksheet.
- Call the students back to their seats by table.
Assessment
- Questioning students throughout the lesson.
- Worksheet that asks the students to distinguish between animals living in the Polar Regions and animals that do not.
