Rainforest Introduction: "The Great Kapok Tree" by Lynne Cherry

Objective: Students will be begin to be bale to identify the 4 different levels of the Rain Forest and place the animals into the correct levels.

Anticipatory Set: What can you tell me about the Rain Forest?

Materials
  • "The Great Kapok Tree" by Lynne Cherry
  • Meg the Monkey (puppet)

Procedure

  • Introduce Meg the Monkey as being a Rain Forest Animal
  • Sing "I'm a Little Monkey" (song sung to "I'm a Little Teapot")
  • Read "The Great Kapok Tree" by Lynne Cherry
  • Discuss the animals in the book and list them on the board.
  • If there is time left sing " I'm a Little Monkey" again
