Objective: Students will be able to review shapes in creating shape caterpillars
Anticipatory Set: Did anybody see any butterflies yesterday? What colors were they?
Procedure:
- Review by singing about the 4 stages of a butterfly's life cycle.
- Introduce the book "The Caterpillar and the Polliwog" by Jack Kent
- Ask students what a polliwog is, and tell them to pay close attention to the story because something will happen to the polliwog.
- Read the story stopping along the way to ask questions.
- After the story ask what happened to the caterpillar and polliwog? Do any other animals change? flies, moths, cicadas,
- Introduce various shapes by having students pick shapes out of a brown paper lunch bag and have them tell what shape it is and draw it on the board.
- Make shape caterpillars for a bulletin board.
- Have shapes pre-cut and demonstrate project.

- Various shapes in various colors
- Large green circles and larger yellow circles for the body.
