Objective: Students will be able to identify where butterflies like to dwell and what they eat.
Anticipatory Set: Who likes flowers? Does anyone have a flower garden at home? What animals like to visit there? Have you ever seen a butterfly and tried to catch it? Discuss.
Procedure:
- Introduce the book "Where Butterflies Grow" by Joann Ryder.
- What do you think this book is about?
- After reading the book ask what butterflies like to eat and where they lived in the story.
- Ask if they think nectar and pollen is sweet? What are some things we eat that are sweet?
- Mix sugar and water and let students taste the "nectar"
- Make butterfly snacks
- Fill celery with peanut butter
- Add two pretzel wings
- Use pieces of pretzel for antennae
- Use raisins to decorate
- EAT!
