Hershey’s Hugs and Kisses Anticipatory Set: I will create mystery bags containing chocolate kisses. I will ask the students what they think are in the bags. After a few guesses I will give each group a bag and materials. Objective : To continue talking about Hershey and also to experiment with Hershey’s hugs and kisses. Students will make inferences regarding the contents of the mystery bag. They will classify objects into groups based on visual information. They will make observations of Hershey’s hugs and Kisses using all senses, and communicate observations with the group. Materials: Each group of students (4-5 per group) will receive: Paper bags with hugs and Kisses Dissecting Kit (Plastic Knifes, Paper Towel, Ruler) Observation Chart Procedure 1. Students, working in-groups of four or five, will receive materials. 2. Make and record observations about the bag’s contents. 3. Open the bag and sort the contents into groups based on visual observations. 4. Record observations on the observation sheet. 5. Carefully unwrap one piece of candy from each group. 6. Make and record additional observations. Typical Discussion Questions: How are the groups similar? What differences do you observe? How do these differences compare to the differences in people? Assessment Anecdotal records of group activity and activity during discussion questions. Completed charts. |
