Objective: Students will be able to discuss spiders and make a spider and a web.
Materials needed
- "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle
- black construction paper
- egg cartons
- white chalk
- markers
- black pipe cleaners
Anticipatory Set: Raise your hand if you like spiders?
Development:
- Ask students to describe what a spider looks like.
- Write descriptions on the board.
- Introduce the story be asking why they think the story is entitled
- "The Very Busy Spider"?
- Read the story reminding students to keep in mind what they thought the title meant
- After the story ask how many were right about their prediction of the title.
- Explain project
- We are going to make spiders and a web for the spiders today.
- To make the web you will use black paper and white chalk.
- What is the first thing you should do when you get your paper?
- Name
- Make an example web.
- While you are making your web you will get materials to make
- a spider (show materials)
- Start making a spider.
- Send students back to seats by table.
- Have paper passer pass out paper.
- Have a dot to dot or other activity for children to do if they finish early.
