Rationale: Shared book experience.

Objective: Students will be able to discuss spiders and make a spider and a web.

Materials needed

Anticipatory Set: Raise your hand if you like spiders?

Development:

  1. Ask students to describe what a spider looks like.
  2. Write descriptions on the board.
  3. Introduce the story be asking why they think the story is entitled
  4. "The Very Busy Spider"?
  5. Read the story reminding students to keep in mind what they thought the title meant
  6. After the story ask how many were right about their prediction of the title.
  7. Explain project
  8. We are going to make spiders and a web for the spiders today.
  9. To make the web you will use black paper and white chalk.
  10. What is the first thing you should do when you get your paper?
  11. Name
  12. Make an example web.
  13. While you are making your web you will get materials to make
  14. a spider (show materials)
  15. Start making a spider.
  16. Send students back to seats by table.
  17. Have paper passer pass out paper.
  18. Have a dot to dot or other activity for children to do if they finish early.
