A SEVEN-POUND MIRACLE

With the first sight of snow and the sweet melodies of Sarah's X'mas carols, the year 2000 is coming to a close. We are reminded of the LORD's grace and mercies during this past year as we count our blessings. Let's share with you our seven-pound miracle:

It was a busy workday in February. The phone kept ringing off the hook in the pharmacy as usual. However, with this call from the doctor's office, I was brutally informed of some "abnormalities" found in my very own 18-week pre-natal ultrasound.

"There is an unexplained bright spot detected inside the baby's heart…."

"Her femur (thigh bone) is lagging in growth, about 2 weeks behind her other body parts…"

"Both of these findings alludes to increased risks of hereditary problem, in particular, Down's Syndrome"

I listened attentively to the doctor's report, fighting back my fears and helplessness.
"Mrs. Man, you are at 18-19 weeks right now, we have to give you all these details so you can make an informed decision about your pregnancy before it's too late."

The weeks that followed were lined up with further medical visits, lab tests and genetic counseling. Nobody was exactly sure how these ultrasound results should be interpreted, neither would we unless we went for an amniocentesis to confirm the baby's hereditary condition. Since this test itself could pose a risk to the unborn baby's well-being, we decided against it.

We came to the conclusion that no matter what God was putting us into; He would give us the strength to face it. Be this baby healthy or weak, we would anticipate his/her arrival with the faith that our future was in God's good hands.

July 29th, a healthy baby-girl was born. "I don't see anything unusual about her, except she's just too beautiful," remarked Dr. Gamble, who delivered Jodie, as he examined her right after birth. "That's why I do obstetrics, is to do these easy ones." We thank God for this good Christian doctor who took us over when we ran into difficulties during our pregnancy.

Above all, we must thank God for giving us this tiny but most wonderful miracle of life - a healthy and beautiful baby-girl - JODIE!

A special note of thanks to all who "labours" with us through prayer.
