This performance, relayed live from Londons Marquee, captures the Manics in full mouthy spirits. It was also, I believe,
taped for Japanese television and there are rumours of it appearing on late nite UK TV, as well. If anyone
can give me confirmation of this, I'd be grateful!
Musical quality takes a backseat to the sheer aggression of Nicky, in full vodka driven motormouth mode, gobbing
out insults at the audience in between numbers. Typical banter before "Crucifix Kiss" -
(Audience applauds)
Nicky : "Well, that's a bit better, but this isn't a Blur concert, so just let yourselves go!....
Agnostics! Catholics!
JDB : "Everyone's Protestant, everyone's Catholic, everyone's into....... Buddha. So this one's for yer wankers!
All in all a mixed bag, but one worth hearing for the attitude and spirit of the Manics when they
were first tasting fame and notoriety, or maybe just to guffaw when James tells the crowd "You can never love me,
'cos yer too fuckin' ugly!"
