FAITHFULNESS by Janey “Look,” said Sean, “you can plead as much as you want. I don’t do radio interviews, and even before I knew Liverpool were playing tonight I said I wouldn’t go with you for all the ones you’ve got lined up. Lucy and me are staying here to shout and scream at the ref, thank you very much.” “Oh Sean, come on,” urged Martin. “A bit of moral support wouldn’t hurt.” “What’s the point if all I’m going to do is sit there being absolutely bored witless?” Sean queried. “None at all as far as I can see.” Lucy caught the look he flashed her, “Oh no you don’t! I am not getting involved in this, thank you very much. I just want to sit and watch the match.” “Lucy you never ‘just sit and watch’,” laughed James. “You stand, yell and wave your arms about a lot!” “A minor triviality.” “Umm.” “Don’t ‘umm’ me Bradfield!” she scolded humorously. “You really ought to know better after all these years.” “Great!” James laughed as he rubbed his hands together, “does this mean you’re gonna hit me and make me pay for being cheeky?” “You’ll have to do more than that to wind me up, JD. The problem is that I know how much you WANT me to teach you a lesson. Where’s the fun in for me if you’re too keen huh?” and Lucy planted the briefest of kisses on his warm mouth as she smacked his backside. “One day, James. One day.” “You’ve been telling me ‘one day’ for the last 19 years! How long is a guy supposed to wait?” “As long as it takes!” Nicky laughed raucously. James whispered to Lucy, so that no one else would hear, “do you know how many times I’ve cum thinking of you? How many times I’ve wanked off whilst imagining it was you around my hard throbbing dick?” “I’m not alone in doing that then?” she murmured as she smiled and winked at him teasingly. “Damn I give up!” Martin sighed with a disheartened and resigned note to his voice. “Let’s get on with it you two, come on.” Nicky and James were both smirking as Martin quickly ushered them out of the house, and Lucy and Sean both had a fit of hysteria after they’d gone. “You really shouldn’t tease him Lucy,” said Sean as the half time whistle blew in the match. “It’s time you two either got together or quit fooling around with the flirting.” “Sean I can’t take it any further. You know I can’t, it just wouldn’t be right.” Sean breathed in deeply and shook his head; “you can’t put your life on hold forever in case he comes back. He wouldn’t want you to, besides if he does come back he may be a very different person to the Richey we all loved when he left.” “I can’t give up. I love him Sean and I’ll wait until I know he’s either unable to come back, or he says he doesn’t want to come back. Stupid of me perhaps but I can’t betray him.” “Lucy you can say the word you know, ‘unable to come back’ doesn’t fool anyone. What you mean is ‘DEAD’, isn’t it?” he hugged Lucy to his torso as she began to cry softly. “I know we don’t talk about it but it’s more than a possibility. He’s also been gone for almost ten years, that’s two more years than you were a couple for.” “I know,” muttered Lucy between sobs. “Sean, I miss him so fucking much!” “Honey we all do but you can’t stop living. You fancy James I know you do, so do something about it. Don’t lose out on the chance of happiness and love, and try to stop thinking that you’re being unfaithful.” “Sounds so easy when you say it like that. Even though my head knows your right, I can’t do it. Whenever I’ve tried to tell James how I feel I’ve had images of Richey start swirling around in my head. I wake up after having had an erotic dream about James feeling really good then I start to feel ashamed and guilty.” “Easy for me to say I know but you have nothing to be guilty about. You have needs and emotions Lucy, but you’re ignoring them because of this sense of duty that’s eating away at you,” Sean tenderly wiped away some of her tears with a sweep of his thumb. “One thing does baffle me though.” “What’s that?” Lucy stuttered as she tilted her face to look at him properly. “What the hell do you see in my cousin any how?” and he began to laugh. Inspite of her tears Lucy managed a small giggle, “as you ask,” she said, “the first thing that attracted me was the size of his crotch, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Until I first met Richey that is.” “I wish I’d never asked!” exclaimed Sean. “Talk about too much information.” “Yeah but you did. Now it’s just him being him, you know? His humour, his smile, the way he treats me as an equal, the way he makes me shiver when he touches me.” “I’ll give you the rest of your holiday to tell him you love him and get a relationship underway.” “He may have already met someone. It’s not as though he’s been celibate and waiting for me is it? Nor did I expect him too either.” “He’s not; trust me on that one. Take the bull by the horns and go for it Lucy. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that right.” “He may not want a relationship Sean. He may be sick of waiting and figure that he’ll be second best to Richey.” “Then you need to let him know that that isn’t the case, don’t you?” “Oh great,” said Lucy brightly as she pointed at the TV screen, “teams are coming back out.” “Nice try but that won’t work with me!” he chided and couldn’t help but smile at Lucy’s puzzled response. “Avoiding the issue by talking about the teams won’t work with me. So talk with him tomorrow all right? Let him know how you scared you are too; be honest with him. He loves you and has done for a long time. That’s why he’s waited so long.” “He hasn’t waited though has he? I’ve lost count of how many girlfriends he’s had. We’ve had this discussion.” “If you repeat a word of this to him I will kill you myself, got that?” Sean was very serious and Lucy merely nodded her agreement. “James hasn’t slept with any of his girlfriends for the last 6 years or so. He wanted to be able to be with you when you felt you were ready. He’s been pining and waiting for you like you have Richey.” Lucy hadn’t really been able to get into the second half of the match even though Liverpool ended up winning very comfortably; all she could think of was what Sean had told her about James and it was all she could think of now, as she stared up at the ceiling of her bedroom. She heard voices and the sounds of doors closing and taps running in the room next to hers – Nicky’s room. It was almost 3am but she decided to go down and get a warm drink in the hope it would help her sleep. She put on her short pyjama set and went to the kitchen. James was sat at the breakfast bar having a whiskey and a cigarette as he listened to the radio. “How’d it go?” asked Lucy as she took some milk out of the fridge and then got out a pan. “You know, they were ok, kinda. Same questions but different station type of thing you know?” His eyes followed her every move. “So what’s up with you then? Thought you’d be happy ‘cos you won the match kinda like, you like.” “Can’t sleep. Too much going on in my head,” she sighed as she put the pan on the stove and then got the drinking chocolate out the cupboard. “Thinking of Richey again?” His eyes narrowed and his brow was furrowed with anxiety as a slight grimace crossed over his features. “Partly,” she turned the heat right down under the pan. “I was thinking that he’d probably want me to be happy instead of living in this limbo, don’t you?” “I’m sure he would. He loved you.” “Thanks James.” “What for?” “I don’t need that hot chocolate anymore. I’m going to be absolutely fine,” she kissed his cheek, switched off the stove and went upstairs, leaving James feeling utterly confused. It was after noon and Lucy still hadn’t surfaced and they were starting to get uncomfortable. “She never sleeps this late even when she’s totally pissed,” groaned Nicky as he paced the lounge. “I think we should wake her.” “I’ll go,” said James, and he started to go up the stairs. For a short while there was silence until they heard him knocking on the door and then opening it. Again silence. Then suddenly James let out the most devastating, heartbreaking yell, and they all ran upstairs to find him sat on Lucy’s bed holding a note; ‘I still love him, and you’re all right about my having to move on and be happy. I can only truly be happy with Richey though and so I’m going to join him. I’m sorry for doing this to you. Love Lucy x x x.’ The end. <<< Janey's stories |
