Contributors to the Manipur Update

Amar Yumnam

Dr. Amar Yumnam is a well known economist and a commentator on economic issues. He has served as a Visiting Faculty Member at the Institute of Social Change & Development, Gauhati, Assam State and is currently engaged in a World Bank project in Manipur as a Consultant. he also teaches economics at Manipur University.

Chongtham Narendra

Mr. Chongtham Narendra is a reputed lawyer and a popular columnist. He specializes in socio-legal issues. he is currently serving as the Presiding Officer of Consumers Disputes Redressal Forum, Thoubal District.

Irengbam Arun

Mr. Irengbam Arun is a senior journalist of Manipur who began his career in a leading vernacular daily Hueiyen Lanpao and later on became its Executive Editor. He has also edited a fortnightly journal Laarei Laathup. He is presently the President of Human Rights Alert.

K. Sarojkumar Sharma

Mr. K. Sarojkumar Sharma is the Senior Staff Reporter of the Sangai Express daily. He is a media fellow of National Foundation of India and a founder member of Human Rights Alert.

L. Lakshmi

Ms. L. Lakshmi is well known social worker. She is presently the General Secretary of Manipur Women Co-ordinating Council. she has varied interests, but her main area of work is among destitute women, children and divorced women. She is a National Youth Awardee and a pioneer of the Scout & Guides movement in Manipur.

M. Nilakomol Singh

Mr Nilakomol Singh was the lone survivor of the Tonsen Massacre by the CRPF, a Central Paramilitary force. he is working as Peon (a lower grade employee of the State Government) in the Co-operative Department, Thoubal District.

N. Pishakmacha Devi

Ms. Ningthoujam Pishakmacha Devi is a resident of Pheija Leitong, Thongju Part II, Imphal West District. She is a victim of police brutality.

Pradip Phanjoubam

Mr Pradip Phanjoubam is a reputed journalist of Manipur, who began his career at The Times of India. Later on, he worked as Principal Correspondent of the Business & Political Observer and The Telegraph. He is presently Editor of one of the leading English dailies of Manipur The Imphal Free Press. He has written a book on Nationalism and Sub-nationalism during his brief sojourn as a Birla Fellow.

Thokchom Khelen

Mr. Thokchom Khelen is a reputed journalist of Manipur. He began his career at Manipur News and served in different capacities in other local dailies like the Ningtam Lanpao, and the Hueiyen Lanpao and national journals like The Sunday and The Sun. He is presently editing The Sangai Express.

W. Joykumar

Mr Wahengbam Joykumar is a resident of Huikap Makha Leikai, Imphal East District, Manipur. He is a community worker of United Voluntary Youth Council, Manipur. He is also a Council Member of the Human Rights Alert.

Yambem Laba

Mr Yambem Laba started his career as a journalist in the weekly Resistance. Later on, he joined The Statesman as a Special Correspondent. he was instrumental in filing the first writ petition against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in 1980, while he was still a student in Delhi. He is presently a Member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
