Rainy River 2001  Fun Fly / Fish Fry

The 2001 event was a huge success, a big thanks to Bill Haggarty, Jim Luckenbill, Kevin Mclean, and Marc Sharpe and their wives for a super event.

It is amazing that a club of 4 active members can put on one of the best events in the zone! (click on pics to enlarge and more pics on 2001A and 2001B)

Marc, Bill, and Kevin early Sunday morning, Jim had another function to attend to Sunday morning, Jim at the fish fry on Saturday.

Good Guy Award goes to Harold Clement who made the trip (7.5 hour drive) from Russell, MB with his flying buddy Steve Souchuk. Harold won the RV4 kit raffle during the fish fry. Harold noticed the  "I did not win face" on young Zak Valiquette and so Harold promptly offered the kit to Zak as a gift, Zak was thrilled and accepted with a huge smile. Minutes later Zak was studying the construction manual.

A nice surprise -

As I was packing up to head back to Winnipeg on Sunday, who would think that I would run into a young teenager (back then) that I lived next to when I first got married and I have not seen for 23 years then to run into each other at the Rainy River Fly In. I was 23, Mark was 13 or 14, my how time flies.  My old control line flying buddy, Mark C and me and then Mark's son Cameron next to the Cub.

Even if you did not put a flight in, you would have great time at this field, the club members from Rainy River and Baudette are just super.

The runway runs E-W, smooth grass, 500 to 600' long, wind prevails from the west or east. Parking is on the road, thus you have to carry your stuff a couple of hundred feet in (this year we were able to drive in to unload -  great!)

We usually arrive on Friday at noon, fly at bit in the afternoon, debrief and bunk down at the Road Runner Motel (1-800-559-6187).

Tons of info at the Rainy River web site.
