  Mods and How To's

The newly discovered 'Dutch Mod Kit' for 1500 A/C/L model Kawasaki
Vulcan's
was brought to my house today by - you guessed it! Dutch his ownself!
It
  consists of:
  TWO K&N 56-1010 FilterChargers
  TWO 'Dutch buildt' backing plates
  Mounting screws/nuts/bolts as required.

Using a 1/4" driver with 5/16th socket remove the air boxes from the
bike.
Leave the stock 'air tubes' (rubber) in place, they'll be used with
the
  kits.

Remove two mounting brackets from the backing plate of the OEM airbox
-- one
is about three inches wide U shaped, the other looks like a flat
'boomerang'
shaped piece with two holes in it and a slot on one end. Both of these
brackets will be reused to install the Double Dutch Mods (there ARE
two of
  em <G>).

I have photos coming, but not being digital myself, I have to wait til
they
  come back from the processor.

Mount the OEM U shaped bracket to the back of the Dutch Buildt backing
plate, mount the boomerang shaped bracket to the Dutch Buildt backing
plate.
Pull the rubber 'air tube' through the like shaped opening in the
Dutch
Buildt backing plate - ensure that the second 'hump' in the rubber air
tube
is fully seated - we found a 'duck-bill' pliers works well for this
process.
Mount the unit in the same place using stock bolts (two), Place the
K&N
filter into the bracket, place the cover and mount the two acorn nuts
to
  secure the cover in place.

Repeat this process on the left side of the bike -- 60 minutes total
time
for both sides and NOW the bike can breathe better!

Word of caution for those with 2 1/2" DG HardKrome pipes -- Dutch
needs to
know if you have these, the front jug exhaust pipe is real close to
the
filter if backing plate adjustments aren't made.

REJETTING: Dutch has been running his bike with 138 / 140 main jets
with the
mixture screw at 4 turns -- wanted to go a bit richer on the mains so
his
were replaced with 140 / 142 main jets and 3 1/2 turns out on the
mixture
  screws.

  I moved from OEM 112 / 115 to his 138 / 140 and the bike runs just
fine with
the mixture screw set at 3 1/2 turns out -- hey, no more back-popping!
  SUPERB!.

Thanks to Wired George for his 140 / 142 recommendation -- great
starting
point, plus the mixture screw can be put a bit farther in.

Please understand one thing - I am NOT a wrench, I'm reporting what I
observed, but after having watched Dutch put these on MY bike, and
watching
him replace the jets on his carbs and also on mine, I'm more than
confident
that I can do this operation in one hour's time.
