Chapter One THE STEALTHLON |
USS Stealthlon 03 : 20 Zulu/ SET 2173 |
The inside of the Stealthlon's neck, delta-body fuselage is where the two commanding officers of the ship found themselves after a walking arguement over what to do after getting aboard. Blackbird protested immeadiately going to the bridge, Kain agreed seeing there wasnt a thing he could do to stop Blackbird. Both made there way to the Ships Medical Bay to meet the ships surgeon, Dr. Joseph Litch to find the doctor in the middle of an examination of one of the bridge staff, Lt Cmdr. Lisa Janette Hayes. The doctors back was to Blackbird & Kain as they both observed the doctor performing some kind of medical procedure over Hayes' pelvic region. It was obviously intrusive as Hayes almost began to glow red from blushing about the examination. Blackbird and Kain realizing they walked in on a 'sensitive' medical procedure walked out to the med-bays waiting room, both men blushing. But the blush went away almost immeadiately as both Blackbird and Kain smelled an odor in the med-bay's waiting room. Kain elbowed Blackbird lightly in his side recalling something. "Beckerd, that smell... I know it." Kain said while looking around for the source of the smell. "You can smell that woman over all this odor?" Blackbird seemingly amazed by his colleague's ability to smell out a woman anywhere. "No... I can't unfortunately, because of the odor and thats the odd thing." "What is?" Blackbird bewildered. "The odor, it was all over the magazine I was reading in the VTOL on the way to the ship." "Now my ship has some kind of odor to it?" Blackbird's eyes growing each time the smell passes his nose. "No no. Atleast I hope not." "Then where the hell is it coming from?" The doctor walked out of the opened door examination room and over heard both Blackbird and Kain talking about the smell. The first Blackbird and Kain noticed on the doctor was the gas-mask the doctor was wearing. Blackbird couldn't resist seeing how the odor seemed to intensify as the doctor walked out of the exam room. "The smell that bad, doctor?" Blackbird said with a half smile believing the gas-mask to be some pun against the odor's source. "I could swear it almost corroded my gloves. So I wasn't going to take any chances." The doctor said taking off the gas-mask. The expression on his face being one of a serious demeanor told Blackbird about the source. "Your not saying that odor is coming from that woman are you?" Blackbird almost surprised but anticipating a bad answer. "Yes its Commander Hayes who's the culpirt." "And all this time scientists said rotten-eggs didn't have legs, or breasts for this matter." Kain making a rhetorical commentary. Blackbird couldn't help but agree with the obvious analogy Kain gave. They waited for Hayes to emerge from the exam room. Blackbird remarked on Hayes's family history calling her a traditional and typical military brat offspring type. Kain remarked at her accomplishments thus far, achieving a rank of lieutenant commander in record time, then Kain added that was due to the attrition. Hayes overhearing her commanding officers, walked right on out and straight to Blackbird & Kain. Kain couldnt help but look her over, as she emerged from the exam room. She was fairly attractive, never whore her hair in a pony-tail like other female officers, but instead adopted and old style that was just barely within regulations, in other words, letting her shoulder length hair flow down. Standing at five-foot, nine inches, weighing 117 pounds, Hayes did indeed present a beautiful physique. Her uniform, much like all UNSF uniforms, began with an officers grey uniform button-up shirt, bearing a striking resemblence in style to the shirts used by the United States Air Force. Blackbird thought her to be modest and not out to impress anyone. The skirt completed her uniform, being of a darker grey color, starting from the top of the waist and ending just 4 inchs or so below the knees. The skirt, not often used (or used enough) by other female officers, indicated to Blackbird she was modest but would be more traditional military raised female then a military trained female in terms of her ideals. She picked up her dress coat draped over the back of a chair in the waiting area. She didnt hesitate to question the reason she rose quickly through the ranks after putting on her dress coat and buttoning it up.. "Sir? Captain Cain, sir, is that why I am a Lieutenant Commander this soon. Do you think I could be?" She asked while standing at attention with her hands crossed behind her back. Kain looked up at Hayes with a smiling face. "Well you could die just as easily from a meteor strike isnt that right Hayes?" Kain said with a barely visible grin. Hayes reacted with a grimace on her face wondering if she was going to live long at all during the war. "Your probably right sir. I have read the statistics of our chances during this conflict and..." "Hayes, your not gonna die anytime soon. For christ sake your on the Stealthlon." Blackbird retorted. He got up along with Cain. Blackbird continued as he walked with Cain and Hayes out of the Med bay and towards the Bridge. "Listen Hayes, the last thing you gotta worry about is yourself. And trust me it has to be the last thing. Now dont get gung-ho on me and go and try to catch some Imp torpedo with your bare hands during battle. Wait aminute... Your our coms officer arent you Hayes?" "Uh... Yes sir. I am." "Then what are you worrying about dying in battle. Your a coms officer." Blackbird said jokingly. Cain couldnt help but laugh. They walked onto the bridge some minutes later. Upon entering the bridge a yeomen yelled and called everyone to attention as the senior rank entered the bridge with Hayes. Blackbird stopped right after walking into the bridge... He looked around the bridge... It boasted one of the largest view screens ever on a starship. The bridge was unique from other bridges on other starships... Much more narrow. but longer in length then other bridges. Blackbird joked to himself that it would be perfect as some dart throwing alley or as a bowling lane. It was not necessarily setup in a department station surround layout, but rather, the Command authority was in the middle of the rear part of the bridge. Tactical sat just off to the front and left of Blackbirds chair, which in turn sat right of Cains chair. Tactical dealt with the defensive essence of the ship... boasting electronic warface, stealth ops, recon ops, and the standard Defensive battle stations. Strategic Weapon Ops sat off to the front and right of Cain's chair. They dealt with more or less as the name suggests, strategic weapons... meant for attacking a small fleet or battle groups at distance. |
