Hungry Joe's 17:10 SET 2183 Admiral Story immediately decided that Hungry Joe's was a place he would not frequent too often. With its horrible lighting and wailing music to drown out any conversation, it made for the perfect place to meet with someone in private. Geez, Story thought, this place comes straight out of a movie. He pulled his coller up over his neck some more and sank down in his chair to further disguise himself. Is someone were to recognize the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the UNSF, questions would be asked. At this point in time, Story preferred to avoid that. He had questions of his own. He checked his chrono. His "informant" as he had now come to think of him, was late. He scanned the few occupants of the bar and mentally catalogued each one. He decided that this meet was definately not starting out good. Out of the corner of his, he noticed another figure walk into the bar. Trying not to look the person directly, Story kept his eyes stragiht, letting his perephial vision do the work. He did not look directly at the figure until they began to approach Story's table. "Forgive me for being late, Admiral," the figure said, slipping into the chair opposite of the Deputy C-in-C. "I had to make sure you weren't being watched." "You had to make sure I wasn't being watched," Story asked, "or that I didn't have anybody watching you?" The figure pulled thier cloak back to reveal long brown locks of hair. The woman's eyes sdarted from left to right, once again, making sure that they weren't under surveillance. Story was surprised to see the his "informant" was a woman. He'd been expecting either a man or some form of an alien. Shows what I know, he thought with an inward shake of his head. "Well," he asked, "do you have any kind of name I can call you by?" She hesitated for a second, as if she was unsure of how to answer the question. "I have many names," she said with slight satisfaction. "You, however, can suffice to call me Wryn." "Wryn?" Admiral Story frowned. "Sounds more alien than human," "It is." She leaned forward in her chair. "Can we get down to business, Admiral? My time here is limited." "Okay," Story agreed, dimly wondering what else she had to do, w hat other appointments she had to keep. He leaned forward in his chair, mimickng Wryn's move. "What makes you think that there's something going on in the USNF?" She took a quick glance around the bar before starting. "Keep in mind, Admiral, that I did not obtain this information myself; I am merely part of an orginization that gathers...information for people." Story frowned. "Why? That's what UNSF Intelligence is for. Let my men do thier jobs." "Sometimes it is not wise to publicize an investigation, Admiral," said Wryn. "Especially when some partaking in it might be part of the plot." Story nodded. That made sense. Still, he didn't like the idea of dealing with underhanded people. He started wondering if General Page could be trusted. |
