Forming a Martian Government |
In Order to discuss a Governmental form, We must first understand the current forms that are available... Determine their strengths and Weaknesses... And from that maybe a new form of Government can be born, that will be better suited for all concerned. |
Government Type: |
Strength: |
Weakness: |
Anarchy: |
This Form of Government offers the Best Form on the Individual Level. No powers to rule over you, you are free to make dissisions as you see fit. Uncomplicated and no cost. |
Without Government, Education fails.... creating a batch of illiterate people, only those with the strong desire will become educated. No Government, Means no protection of Individual Rights... When another does wrong to you or your family it is left up to the individual to retaliate... This has the potential create Wars between familys with retaliation after retaliation. This also would be a breeding ground for a potential Tyrant, or dictator. As a person may gain control over others and then force those opposed to the new governmental form into prison or death. |
Totaltarism: |
This form of Government is very effecient. With one person calling all the shots. With some lesser rulers then they are able to easily control the aspects of day to day life. Subjects are protected by An Army, as directed by the Leader.... But, protection is not a guarentee, if one falls from favor. The Best Example of this type leader was King Solomon..... He was the most prosperious King, and ruled under the banner of peace for his entire rule. |
Unfortunatly, It is hard pressed to find many more good leaders under this system.... most were marked by war, and corruption to one level or another. This type of Government under the wrong hand can and often does become oppressive... even when a good ruler is found, often the successor is just as bad as the ruler was good. Education often falls to the privilaged few, which goes to create a dependancy of the illiterate upon them. |
Communism |
Idealy this is the best form of Government ever created... under this type government all persons share equally thier possesions... no person is raised above another. In fact a Leader ideally would give up many of his possesions and live in more poverty, then those of the common folk. In theory, a man would have all he needed, and when he grew food what was left over is given for the good of the common... when a man makes furniture, he would give his furniture over to the common, and be alloted his provision of food.... and so forth. |
In practice, However our human nature makes this a terrible system of government.... People will not work as productively because they have nothing to gain... the Leadership rather then becoming servents will Lord over there subjects and become a priviledged lot. So where the Idea is the best form, the practice actually becomes the worst, and only works in relatively small self sustaining groups that can keep up moral, and even then is questionable. |
Democracy |
In practise the best form of Government ever used... Although Relatively extinct today, when utilized in the old Greek erra this form of Government fostered some of the greatest human acheievment and technological advancements. Who knows where we would be today had this form of government survived into the Roman empire... being a partial system that the United States was founded on. Education is generally open to all, as well the government is run by all citizens... this actually fosters a greater concern of the affairs of the state and Loyalty. |
The biggest dissadvantage here is that this form of government becomes to combersome once the population begins to grow to large... while generally an uper limit close to a quarter million people. This can cause problems when defending against invaders with much larger numbers in which to draw upon... The Loyalty that a person has does help to overcome this disadvantage in odds, however, sure strength in numbers can overcome this too. |
Republic |
This concept builds on the idea of Democracy, however instead of all persons taking part in the government a represenative sample takes part in the Governmental process... This creates an advantage in being able to oversee a larger population base. In general Education is open to all. And because a much smaller group of people make the laws for the population at large it is more effecient. |
Some of the Loyalty factor is a trade off for this form of Government... It also has a tendancy to generate a larger Coruption in special intrest groups can become involved in bending the Laws to thier advantage. |
Now that we have veiwed some of the strengths and weaknesses of some of these forms of government, Lets look at a structure of Government that I will term as a Federation. This I believe encompasses many of the strengths, while limiting the weaknesses we find in most of these Governmental forms. |
