Self Employed Vs. Business Owner
If Your a Doctor, Lawyer,  in Construction, Electrician, or such,  Do you Believe you own a buisness? Or, are you just an Employee of your Business?  I encourage you to consider the information on this page and think on this question, You might be surprised at the answer.
I want to start by telling a little story, this might seem a little childish, and boiled down to simple but, Its basically the same story you'll find in Cash Flow Quadrant.  I believe that it illustrates the point very clearly.

One day this village on an Island had developed a problem.  The Town's well had gone dry and they needed a source of Water.  The community got together and built a water tower, and issued contracts for a water supply.

Two men on the island owned the land that surrounded the only other water source on the island, and so they became the only two to be granted these contracts.  One man Ed imediatly went out and bought two buckets and began making the mile trip each way carrying the water to the tower.  He would work from sun up to sundown each day to ensure the town would have enough water, and even sometimes on Saturday, if the town would need additional supplies.  While the other man seemed to disappear, and this was fine with Ed since he was making all the money.

The other man Bill, sat down and wrote a buisness plan, went and hired a president to run his business, hired a construction crew to build a pipe line and went to learn how to do all this.... After several months, Bill anounced that he was cutting the price of water by 75%, his water was cleaner, and it would be available 24 Hrs per day. ( He had heard coplaints of Ed's water being contaiminated.)  The towns people cheered and gathered round the faucet.

Ed, imediatly cut his rates, bought more buckets, hired his sons to help along with some of the towns people.  he bought some bucket covers and began trying to compete...

While Bill seeing his business working well, sold his idea to many other villages and lived life good on his own island.  While Ed worked every day of his life, began to have union complaints that they only wanted to carrry only one bucket at a time, and higher wages, and struggled the remainder of his days..
Now I ask you to evaluate, what you do for a living.
     Are you Carrying buckets?
     Or do you build pipelines?

To answer that you must consider, do I do the same thing each day to earn a living, or Have I built an income based on work I have done in the past....

For me when I came across this I was delivering pizza, and I knew right away I was carring buckets..... Now I can say I am not only building pipelines, but helping other people learn to do the same.
Robert says this, "The true test of wheather you have a B type Business is this..... Can you walk away from your business for a year, and come back to it with a larger income then when you left.  IF NOT you don't own a Buisness it owns you."
