KENNY POWELL(OMEN) | ||||||||
* No need to introduce yourself Kenny!I'm sure that every Metal maniac knows who you are,but can you tell something about you're come back.What can we expect from the new OMEN? The new OMEN is very much like the old OMEN,in fact when we got the new singer named ... Kevin Goocher we only played songs from the first three records for several weeks.We wanted to capture that spirit and style that we had on those records.The new record entitled ETERNAL BLACK DAWN sounds like the follow up to those records.That's something that i have been trying to do for 15 years. * Let's go back to 1984,the release of the fabulous''Battle Cry''record!A real eighties classic album and one of my 80's faves ,definitely!When you goes back in time,gives it some special feelings inside? That album will always have a special place in my heart,there was such a buzz when we were making that music!It was every ones first full length release,the songs came together really fast and we only spent a few days recording it.It was very electric and i don't think that i will ever experience anything like that again. * After almost twenty years,something's real changed i suppose,tell me about it please? Well,to be hones,alot of things have changed during the years,like i am the only original mem - ber left in the band!The music scene in the U.S. has definitely changed,and not for the better. Most of the shit that kids are listening to now doen't even require you to able to play an instru- ment.I relly miss good musicianship and well thought out songs. * Do you still listen to old school Metal and what kinda bands you'll never forget? When i do listen to music it is usually old school Metal or classical.I still love to listen to band as: Iron Maiden,Savatage,old Black Sabbath,Fates Warning,etc...Don't listen to as much music as i used to,my life is very busy these days trying to get the new Omen record out and get the band back on the right track! * What's your favorite OMEN album and why? That's really hard to answer this question but i like all of the first three for different reasons. I love 'Battle Cry'for it's raw power and enthousiasm.I like'Warning Of Danger'alo because i think that we grew as musicians and song writers.I thinh that Warning Of Danger was very underrated.To me,when i listen to now,i think that is was one of the best records to come out at that time.I don't think that the record was properly promoted and it frustrates me to this day! The album'The Curse'was the most fun to make definitely.We had alot of studio time to try out new ideas.The song entiltled Teeth Of The Hydra is still my favourite song from the early OMEN albums. * As you told before,there is a new album coming up!What about the recordings so far? I really like the new record ETERNAL BLACK DAWN! It is the first time that i have let go and really played guitar like Kenny Powell in years.Kevin's vocals sound like classic eighties Metal. Maybe you can call his voice a mix of Kimball and Dio!Rick Murray does a ton of double kick drum work on the songs that is seldom heard these days.It is going to be released on Mausoleum Records in Europe and on Crash Music for the U.S. and Canada.It should be out around late september,so check it out. * Is it really a 'back to the eighties' styled album sounded like Battle Cry or Warning Of Danger Yeah sure,is it very much in that vein,only the production sound alot better,due the advances in recording gear since then!I don't think old time OMEN fans are going to be disappointed at all! * What's your opinion about the world-wide Metal scene of today?For me personal,there is a big difference between then and now? I would definitely agree!The old school stuff had more guitar leads and harmonies and was alot less one dimensional as far as cord structures and using different tones.That was not to say that i don't like some of the new Metal,some of it is very powerfull.I tried playing that way and it seemed be be very limiting. * I've done many concerts in my life,but i never had the opportunity to see OMEN on stage some where.Maybe one day it will happen.Plans for a European tour in the near future? Funny you asked!Weare headlining the *Keep It True Festival* in Germany on July 19th. We are also doing a couple of more shows around Holland and Belgium at that time.Look for the full blown European tour to start around october or november this year. So you will have plenty of chances to see us this year brother! * If there is one thing you wanna see come true in the future,what will it be Kenny? Well,i don't ask for much in fact but i would love to see the band get to the stage where i could at least survive of only playing music,making records and hanging around with the fans. That would be awesome!! * I wish you all the best with OMEN in the future,lots of success with new album ETERNAL BLACK DAWN in the first place!Only one traditional question the shut the interview... One last word to our readers? Hell yeah brothers! Keep an eye out for the release date of our new album,and help support OMEN and all of the other True Metal bands that are still out there. We will see you soon my bothers!! |
