Shifu Li Shi Hong has an impressive martial arts history.
As a child, his family lived beside the former Yuan Shan Zoological Garden, which was located near the Taipei Grand Hotel. Every morning, while attending the 5th grade at the Ta Lung Elementary School, shifu Li Shi Hong would pass by the Yuan Shan Amusement Park where many people did their morning exercises. At the park, the curious little Li would watch a mysterious old man circling a tree. One day, the old man asked shifu Li Shi Hong if he wanted to learn. This old man turned out to be no other than renowned Hsing-I, Pakua, and Taichi internal master, Zhang Jun Feng (Chang Chun-Feng).
Shifu Li Shi Hong studied with shifu Zhang Jun Feng for several years, but then went on to train in other styles of wushu. His main teachers were Fang Meng K'o (Shaolin Wu Hsing Quan), Wu Shao-Lin (Northern Long fist and Sun Bin Quan), and Yu Zheng (Suai Jiao and Xing Yi).
Besides the martial arts, shifu Li Shi Hong is also an accomplished doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and has compiled and published an encyclopedia on acupuncture, which has won him recognition and awards in Taiwan.
Originally, shifu Li Shi Hong was sent to learn Tang Lang Quan from Li Deng Wu by his teacher, Wu Shao-Lin. According to shifu Li Shi Hong, the Tang Lang Quan master was a conservative man who did not teach everything all at once. Perhaps it was because Li Deng Wu had gone through a lot of hardship to obtain his art; therefore, he was reluctant to give away his secrets.
On the other hand, shifu Li Shi Hong had helped treat shifu Li Deng Wu's father, shifu Li Kun Shan, after the latter had suffered a mild stroke. In gratitude, Li Deng Wu passed on 5 of the 7 Zai Yao sections to shifu Li Shi Hong.
Currently, shifu Li Shi Hong continues to train in the martial arts while attending to his medical practice at his clinic in Taoyuan, Taiwan.
