Duration: 6 weeks (2 days per week in the evening)
Week 1: Generate the
ideas
Introduction
In this session we will give an introduction to the kids about what we
will do in next six weeks. Tell kids how we will go about making our web
site using the ‘What we will do each week chart’. Assess the computer
skills of the kids and the program can be tuned accordingly.
Provide: The handout for the program.
Ideas session
In this session, all the participants will come up with ideas of what
they wish to see on their website. All the ideas will be noted down on
the flip chart. When the session ends, someone will compile the ideas on
a document. A team can then put up the ideas generated in a notice
format and display it on the club’s notice board.
Session can start with a demo of different types of websites kids visit
and like. We can show the current clubs web site. Kids can then come up
with the kinds of things they would want to see on the web site they
will create. It could be anything. We can start organizing the ideas in
sections in this session.
Week 2: Draw it all
on paper
Organize all material in sections
In this session, we will try to arrange all the ideas into sections and
pages, as if were writing a book. Kids will then give names to their
pages, and take responsibility of the pages they will make in the
program.
Draw web pages on paper
In this session, kids will draw the pages as they would appear on the
screen. They will write the text they wish to see, and they will fill
colors, think of pictures they wish to put up, place pictures on the
paper.
Week 3: Start making
the pages
Start Developing web pages
Here we will introduce the tools kids will use to make the web pages.
This will be the most involved phase where we will work with kids
closely and help them to make the web pages.
Develop pages
This will be the second day of development of the web pages.
Week 4: Keep making
Develop pages
This will be third day of development of the web pages.
Develop pages
This will be the last day dedicated to development of the pages. By this
day we will have good idea of how these pages will be linked to each
other. We will also clean the pages for any anomalies we find.
Week 5: Lets put it
all together
Make a local website
On this day we will put all the pages developed on one computer and link
them together. We will make sure that all the links work.
Transfer website online
On this day we will transfer all the pages to a remote website and let
the kids see their pages online from the internet. We will ask them to
see the pages from their home/school and will encourage them to show the
website to their friends and family.
Week 6: Let the world
see it!
Design operations around the site
Once the website is up, we will assign responsibilities of different
sections of the website to different people. They will be responsible
for keeping the website updated.
Clean up pages
We can use the last day as a buffer if any of the above days spills
over. Or we can use this day to clean / update the pages with
incremental updates. We can train the operations team on how they will
update the website.
