The movie starts off with Han being killed by some gangsters because he is leading a revolt among the business people to stop paying the gangsters protection money. The gangsters try to force a girl and her uncle to sell them the family farm, so they can build a hotel. Dragon Lee shows up and gets a job as cook in a restaurant, which for some reason never has any customers. After getting fired Dragon gets a job on the farm with the help of his friend. The gangsters kidnap the girl and her uncle to try and get them to sign the sale papers. Dragon rescues the girl, but the gangsters kill her uncle. Dragon who is Han's brother learns that Han was killed by the gangsters. Dragon and his buddy show up at the gangster's place to kick ass. The movie ends with the good old freeze frame on Dragon's dopey grin.
Of course there is other stuff that happens in the movie, but being a Godfrey Ho movie it doesn't really make sense or have anything to do with the movie. After Han is killed, it cuts to a fight between a black guy and a Chinese guy. When the black guy gets hit in the chest, it cuts to shot of him rubbing his jaw, huh? The black guy rips off shirt and starts in on the gratuitius posing. The black guy now fights a different Chinese fighter and for some reason during the fight it cuts to a quick shot of Dragon Lee with a dopey grin on his face. The black fighter has the most hilarious dubbing, the voice and the delivery are classic. I read in another review somewhere that this scene features some actors from Enter Three Dragons. I don't know if it's true because I haven't seen the movie yet. In true Godfrey Ho filler fashion the black guy and the two Chinese fighters aren't to be seen again.
This movie has everything that could make it another boring kung fu movie, but several wacky moments lift up to being just a mediocre kung fu. When the gangsters first go to the farm, one of the guys gives them some lip so the gangsta says, "You...you gotta be itchin' for a fight sweethart." That's a good one. So when they get into a fight the good guy beats an afro'd gangster over the head with his guitar.
After Dragon Lee gets fired from his cooking job, he's confronted by a white fighter and two other guys. Dragon Lee beats the white guy senseless, it's almost vicious. After knocking the white to the ground, Dragon continues to hit him, and then pulls the guy to his feet so he can keep pummeling him. Later when the white fighter shows up at his boss' place his covered in bandages, it's hilarious and cartoonish. He's holding a suitcase and tells the boss he going back to the US, then says, "I'd better get going." and slowly shuffles out of the shot. He even manages to get in a plug for the airlines.
Other funny scenes would be the booby trap that kills the uncle, two board with spikes through them, pretty lame, but funny when he gets it. The gangsters then drop off his corpse in a suitcase. Also when some gangsters attack the uncle and his niece they wear pantyhose over their heads to conceal their identities, only you can see right through it! I see you! One part that had me scratching my head would be when Kong Tao takes off his wig to reveal a full head of hair, what the?! What's the point of a wig when you already have your own hair? Did I mention that the wig and his own hair are the exact same hairstyle?
There are two other main characters being a guy who works on the farm and his master, the rickshaw driver. The end fight has Dragon and the farm hand showing up at the boss' house, but during the fight the farm guy gets kicked inside a car and then he's never seen again. I guess he couldn't figure out how to get out.
The fights are so-so, the best ones feature Dragon Lee, of course. Dragon is up to his usual Bruce Lee antics yelling and hopping around with the gestures and such. In the fights he is pretty agile doing plenty of cartwheels and flips. In the end he wears a yellow jumpsuit with a red stripe on it and a green case slung over his shoulder. What could be in the case? When Dragon does open up the case, it's not what you think, it's an aluminum baseball bat? Not exactly a traditional kung fu weapon, but it gets the job done. When Dragon uses the bat, the boss fights with two knives, after both of them lose their weapons, Dragon starts losing because the boss has spikes on his feet. When the weird rickshaw guy/kung fu master shows up and starts throwing baseballs at the bad guy, Dragon grabs his bat and starts ripping balls at the boss. Heads up!
Well, I guess that's it. I wasn't all the impressed, but it did have it's moments, the bandaged guy was the best, I don't know why. He looked funny. Oh, did I mention the guys surfing across the pool on the inflatable floaties? Okay, forget it then.
For more info read my William's DVD review for Brentwood's Dragon Lee set which contains Golden Dragon, Silver Snake. The DVD has a major sound flaw that you might want to know about before buying the set, I didn't mind it though.
