In the entire movie we don't learn any of the characters names except for Dragon Lee who is Dragon Liang and a monk named Chien. Hwang Jang Lee is chief of the Wu Dan and kills the grand abbott of Shaolin Temple. Hwang Jang Lee is wiping out Shaolin fighters if they don't join his clan. Dragon wanders around scamming people. His scam is if they cut off his head they get $10, who's to stop them from taking more? A monk beats him at his scam, but doesn't kill him, the monk tells him not to pull anymore tricks. Dragon now without a means of income tries begging and gets a job a hotel, the same hotel the monk is staying at. Dragon is quite good at kung fu and the monk sees him. The monk with a girl he met asks Dragon to become his student, as he's the grand master of Shaolin. Dragon says if the monk can beat him at a challenge, he'll be his student. The challenge has something to do with food and is kinda lame, but the monk beats Dragon. The monk, girl, and Dragon head out, but are challenged by a stranger. The monk starts getting beat, so Dragon steps up. But if Dragon beats the stranger, the monk has to become Dragon's student. Dragon sends the stranger packing and the monk is Dragon's student. In town Dragon gets beat up and the monk helps in the beating! Turns out the monk is a traitor who works for Hwang Jang Lee and Dragon is a Shaolin fighter out to revenge the grand abbott. Dragon is beat up, but he licks the feet of Hwang Jang Lee, so he is spared. You know he's coming back for revenge, why'd you do that?! The stranger returns with the girl and the treat Dragon's wounds. The monk with some fighters run into the stranger and they kill him. They also kidnap the girl. Dragon now has to get revenge and save the girl. In the final fight with Hwang Jang Lee, Dragon is losing badly until a monk shows up to help him. Together the two, kill Hwang Jang Lee and rescue the girl.
In the final fight Dragon is getting his ass kicked until he pulls out his nunchucks, then he gets his ass kicked even worse! Luckily another monk shows up, but we've never really been introduced to this character. Before the final fight we see Dragon training and then fighting with this monk who is his student. Oh well, what do you expect from Godfrey Ho? This film isn't overly exciting, but the fighting is a bit better than that in a Li or Le movie. The monk, Chien, didn't fight too swift and Hwang Jang Lee is so better than this. Dragon Lee was okay, he did look good in a few scenes. I wonder how old he is because in some shots he looks pretty rough. The voice actors were the same guys who dub all kung fu movies. Unfortunately there wasn't that many cheesy lines, the last lines of dialogue in the movie are the best.
Dragon has just beaten Hwang Jang Lee and saved the girl. The two stand together.
"So tell me, where do you go from here?" asks the girl.
Dragon replies, "There's a temple on the hill, let's get married."
Score! Way to go Dragon, that was smooth. What a happy ending. I just met you a few days ago, but sure I'll marry you. Not a good movie, but not a bad movie either.
As with Story of the Dragon I got this movie on DVD out out by Beverly Wilshire. The picture/sound quality is a little better than Story of the Dragon. The sound does drop out once, but it's only for a few seconds. The picture is okay, I wasn't expecting a crystal image. If you watch a lot of older kung fu movies, the VHS versions aren't that great, it's like watching a cheap VHS, but on DVD.
