made their first album, Bleach in 1989. It was a pretty good album, defying their early roots. But it was their 1991 album Nevermind that suddenly made them famous, successful, and later influential. It knocked GN'Rs Use Your Illusion I & II off the top of the charts and went platinum 12 times. It featured hit songs "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come as You Are," and "Lithium." Their new brand of punk and modern rock created a whole new powerful music category of the 90s--Alternative. In 1993, Nirvana made another great album In Utero featuring "Heart Shaped Box," and "All Apologies." This trio established fame and performed a 14-song set and produced a live album for MTV's Unplugged in 1994. A couple months after their performance Kurt Cobain mysteriously killed himself with a shotgun bullet to the head. |
