The Life an Times of
Stevie Ray Vaughan

back home

Stevie Ray Vaughan's life with the guitar began when his brother Jimmy took an interest in the guitar.  Jimmy was a natural the minute he picked up his little acoustic.  He wrote several songs the first day he got it and his parents didn't know that while Jimmy began down his road to stardom that little Stevie was watching and learning too.  Stevie took an interest in anything his big brother did, so when Jimmy picked up the guitar Stevie decided he wanted to play like his bro.  The Vaughan parents bought Stevie a little toy acoustic guitar to play with that had cowboys on the side of it.  When Jimmy graduated to the electric guitar Stevie got the old acoustic and so it went that whenever Jimmy got a new guitar Stevie would get the hand-me-down one.  Stevie would always ask Jimmy to show him something new on the guitar or how to do something he heard on the radion and Jimmy would show him and always tell him to figure the next one out on his own or he would kick his butt.  Stevie would ask anyways and Jimmy would still show him how to do whatever Stevie needed to know.  The role that Jimmy played as a mentor and a teacher helped Stevie become great in that Jimmy had noone to show him the way as Stevie did.
