I have been able to reconstitute and link the 3 main branches of
the family. All start with variations of the Kutten name (Kutt,
Kutte, Kuttes, etc...). All these families were located in a few villages of the
Mosel river, in a radius of no more than 10 kms (see map).
The older members which I define as the "Luxemburg" branch come from
Bous and its neighbouring villages of Assel and Rollingen-Bous. 400 years later,
the family is still there. The "German" and the "Belgian"
branch originates in Nennig, Remich and Emerange. The older French branch, the only
one I haven't been able to link so far, could have its origin in Elvange, before going through Apach, Rettel, Gavisse.

 | The founder of the French branch, what do you
think?
|
According to the acts of Apach, there was a Joannes
KÜTTEN, shoemaker, married with Margarethe SIEVENER . They had two
daughters and a
son born in Apach: Jakob, born 07.09.1749.
They had another son, Jean Baptiste, son of Jean Baptiste,
born in Ellingen in
1747 during a trip. For some reason, his wedding
certificate from 22.11.1774 as Jean KUTT in Rettel (Lorraine) gives the
birth date of Jacob.
Their sister Maria Kietten (daughter of the late
Joannes KIETTEN, shoemaker, and of Margareta SIWENER, both married in Apach) got
married in February 1786 Her second witness was Jacob Kietten of Mondorf, probably her
brother. (Her first witness was Jacob Rieth of Rettel. Jean's witness in 1774
was his second cousin Jacques Ried of Rettel...)
Their mother, Margareta SIVENER, widow of Joannes KOETH, died 1784 in
Apach. Her son Jacob KOETH was present.
The father is also mentioned as Johann KIETTEN, shoemaker, born
in Elvingen, died in Apach, married with Margaretha SIEVENER of Apach (1715-1784).
Unfortunately, the archives from Elvange have disappeared. As Joannes KUTTEN, he is also witness at his sister's wedding
in Mondorf in 1748.

Where did Jean KUTT/Johannes
KÜTTEN / KIETTEN / KOETH,
shoemaker in Apach, come from?
 |
Among the numerous KUTTEN who lived in this small area,
several may be the one I am looking for: |
Joes Mathias KÜTTEN born 02.05.1723 in Mondorf from Antonius
KÜTTEN and Elisabeth MORIAUX, godparents Joes Mathias KUTTEN of Nennig and Anna Maria
Moriaux
or
Joannes KUTTEN, baptised 09.06.1721 from Mathias KUTTEN
and Catharina KESSELER, godfather Joes KUTTEN
or
Joes Peter KUTTEN, baptised 21.08.1713 in Nennig, from Anton KÜTTEN
in Nennig and Catharina THORN, godparents Joes Peter Idesheim and Maria de
Musiel
or his brother Joannes Theobald KUTTEN, baptised
14.04.1705 in Oemeringen
or maybe
Is it a Joannes KUTTEN who was baptised 06.05.1711 in Remich?
(All this information can be found in the archives of Luxemburg or Trier. It may be
useful to try to get the original ones instead of the central repertories made
shortly after).

 | Assuming that all the Kutt/Kutten came from the same
village of Bous, where did they come from before that? My
personal hypothesis is that they may be descendants of the GU(E)TTEN
families who lived around 1575 in the villages of Ehrang (also on the Mosel)
and Birkenfeld, both less than 50 kms away from Bous. But, according to the
latest news, the Kutt/Kutten family was already there way before 1600,
probably very rich landlords... |
