| GINA CIGNA In July 2001 the soprano Gina Cigna died aged 101 years old. After unsuccessfully petitioning serveral radio stations to mark the passing of this great artist, I decided to create this site instead. |

| NEWS ITEM We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the great Bulgarian soprano Ghena Dimitrova on Saturday 11 June 2005 at 7:30am in Milan. Dimitrova possesed one of the truely unique voices and stage personalities of her time. She thrilled audiences with her unshakable technique and won respect through her powerful personality which commanded attention. She studied with Cigna and was later to excel in the roles that her former teacher had won her fame, such as Aida,Turandot and Abigaille. Many recordings and films exist of this incomparable artist, notably from Verona, a theatre which was often jokingly reffered to as the Arena di Ghena due to her preeminence on it's stage.
