The “Trashy Tabloid Tour” of Long Island Highlights
  Amityville Horror House (112 Ocean Avenue - Amityville, NY 11701)
 

Debate still circulates about this allegedly-haunted house, the basis for the Amityville Horror movies from the late 1970s. Locals swear it is a hotbed of paranormal activity. The house is still a tourist attraction for horror fans and believers in the paranormal. Directions from Saint Rose: Make a right on to MERRICK ROAD  2.58 miles then Turn RIGHT onto OCEAN AVE.  0.27 miles

Sites of Famous Movie Filmed on LI
  The Godfather - Sonny Corleone’s machine gun death, filmed at the abandoned runway at Mitchell Field and The scene with the horse’s head, filmed at Falaise, the Sands Point Mansion.
   
  As well, both Love Story and Citizen Kane were filmed in the area - I'll provide more specifics SOON!

  Sagamore Hill
  Theodore Roosevelt's estate Sagamore Hill, became the so-called "Summer White House" between 1902 and 1908, during his presidency. The Theodore Roosevelt Association ran Sagamore Hill as a museum until 1963, when it was donated to the National Park Service, which operates the estate to this day.
   
  Vanderbilt Mansion, Museum and Planetarium (180 Little Neck Road - Centerport, New York)
  The 43-acre museum complex counts among its collections, not only the Gold Coast-era mansion, a marine museum, natural history habitats, curator's cottage, seaplane hangar, boathouse, gardens, fountains, balustrades pools but also marine and natural history specimens, house furnishings and fine arts, photographs and archives, and an extensive collection of ethnographic objects that make up the former William K. Vanderbilt II estate. The Vanderbilt Planetarium is the largest facility of its kind on Long Island, featuring a domed, 60-foot Sky Theater. Call (631) 854-5555 for directions and information.

NICE TOWNS TO VISIT:
  Cold Spring Harbor
  This colonial style village has a variety of good restaurants, antique stores and boutiques. At one time, Cold Spring Harbor was a busy maritime port, the history of which can be seen at the Cold Spring Whaling Museum.
   
  Northport
  This cozy, off the beaten track town is a nice change from its posh surroundings. Originally, Newport was a successful shipbuilding center for much of the nineteenth century and was the first village in these parts to use electrical power. Remnant trolley tracks still run down Main Street as a memento of the town’s prosperous past.
 
SHOPPING
  Roosevelt Field Shopping Center
  Roosevelt Field Mall has some of the best shopping around.  Bloomingdale's, JCPenney, Macy's, Nordstrom and more than 245 specialty stores, including Aeropostale, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, The Disney Store, Gap, The Limited, Victoria's Secret and more.  Directions from Saint Rose: From the Southern State Parkway westbound, Exit at 22 North, Meadowbrook Parkway North. Exit Meadowbrook Parkway at Exit M2, at the "Shopping Mall" sign. Follow the off-ramp and you will see the mall.
 
SCENIC DRIVES

  Jones Beach and the South Shore of Long Island
  Take a relaxing drive down the famous beach parkway for gorgeous views.  Directions from Saint Rose: Make a right on Merrick Rd - Head West to Wantagh Parkway South (under the bridge) - Stay on Wantagh Parkway until come to huge Tower, with a rotary around it.  - For a very short trip: Go right instead of around the tower and drive back via Meadowbrook Pkwy. 

A longer and more scenic drive: Take the traffic circle around the tower, three quarters of the way around the rotary and onto Ocean Parkway. - Jones Beach Theatre can be seen on the left, then Field Six, Tobay, Gilgo, Oak Beach, on to Captree, etc. You could go right over another bridge to Robert Moses or go back via Robert Moses Parkway. More detailed directions to come.

 
PICTURESQUE PLACES
  Bayard Cutting Arboretum - Off Montauk Highway (Route 27A), Oakdale
  Massive oak trees, lush green lawns, and the Connetquot River. Springtime and early summer are particularly lovely. Azaleas and large rhododendrons are in bloom and large sweeping European beech trees are in full splendor around the 1886 English Tudor-style mansion. - 5$ Entry Fee per car.   Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park
  Long Island’s premier public arboretum and historic site located in Oyster  Bay. A former Gold Coast estate, the arboretum is comprised of over 409 acres of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths, and outstanding plant collections. Original historic estate buildings remain including the 65 room Tudor Revival mansion Coe Hall.
   
  Old Westbury Gardens
  Old Westbury Gardens is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Built in 1906, the magnificent Charles II-style mansion is nestled amid 160 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes.

  Just up the road from the church, (Casey's favorite haunt) Starbucks is always a nice way to kill some time and spend way too much money on a cup of coffee. Try some of Casey’s favorites- vanilla latte, caramel frappucino, toffee nut latte or a nice white chocolate mocha.  Directions from Saint Rose: Make a left out of the church parking onto Merrick Road and continue for  few short blocks. The Starbucks will be in a shopping center on your left side
