Sagamore Hill |

Theodore Roosevelt's estate Sagamore
Hill, became the so-called "Summer White House" between
1902 and 1908, during his presidency. The Theodore Roosevelt
Association ran Sagamore Hill as a museum until 1963, when it was
donated to the National Park Service, which operates the estate to
this day. |

among its collections, not only the Gold Coast-era mansion, a marine
museum, natural history habitats, curator's cottage, seaplane
hangar, boathouse, gardens, fountains, balustrades pools but also

arts, photographs and archives, and an extensive collection of
ethnographic objects that make up the former William K. Vanderbilt
II estate. The Vanderbilt Planetarium is the largest facility of its

|
This colonial style village has a
variety of good restaurants, antique stores and boutiques. At one
time, Cold Spring Harbor was a busy maritime port, the history of
which can be seen at the Cold Spring Whaling Museum. |

Northport |
|
This cozy, off the beaten track town
is a nice change from its posh surroundings. Originally, Newport was
a successful shipbuilding center for much of the nineteenth century
and was the first village in these parts to use electrical power.
Remnant trolley tracks still run down Main Street as a memento of
the town’s prosperous past. |

from Saint Rose: From the Southern
State Parkway westbound, Exit at 22 North, Meadowbrook Parkway
North. Exit Meadowbrook Parkway at Exit M2, at the "Shopping
Mall" sign. Follow the off-ramp and you will see the mall. |

Beach and the South Shore of Long Island |

Take
a relaxing drive down the famous beach parkway for gorgeous
views. Directions from Saint Rose: Make
a right on Merrick Rd - Head West to Wantagh Parkway South (under
the bridge) - Stay on Wantagh Parkway until come to huge Tower, with
a rotary around it. - For a very short trip: Go right instead
of around the tower and drive back via Meadowbrook Pkwy.
A
longer and more scenic drive: Take the traffic circle around the
tower, three quarters of the way around the rotary and onto Ocean
Parkway. - Jones Beach Theatre can be seen on the left, then Field
Six, Tobay, Gilgo, Oak Beach, on to Captree, etc. You could go right
over another bridge to Robert Moses or go back via Robert Moses
Parkway. More detailed directions to come. |

Massive oak trees, lush green lawns,
and the Connetquot River. Springtime and early summer are

and large sweeping European beech trees are in full splendor around
