General description:
The B1 is the main north-south road linking Angola and the South African N7. Other B roads link major towns to the B1.
Most main roads without a letter have been replaced by C roads, numbered sequentially from 10 to 46.
D roads are numbered from 201 in the south to 3700 in the north. Higher numbers then increase further to the south up to 3918.
Farm road numbers generally do not appear on maps and only one example is known (P1217). They might be obsolete.
Road signs: B road numbers appear in a pentagon (blue with white text), Main road numbers without a letter appear in a square with corners at top and bottom.
History: Formerly main road numbers from 21 to 110 were assigned beginning in the south. Most of these have been changed to C numbers (probably around 1990). In particular, there are no 3-digit numbers left. There were also trunk roads with suffixed numbers, syntax [0-9]<1-2>/[0-9]. All of these have been replaced by C numbers.
