General description:
Expressways E1 and E2 are near the capital Nouméa. They have some grade separated crossings but there are also level crossings. Parts are dual carriageways.
Territorial highway RT1 is the most important road on the main island connecting Nouméa and Koné, the capital of the northern province Nord. The RT2 is on the island of Lifou.
Provincial highways in the province Nord have RPN numbers. In Sud they have RP numbers. In the province Iles Loyaute there is only one provincial highway RP1. Usually numbers continue across the border, e.g. the RP5 in Sud continues as RPN5 in Nord.
Road signs: No information available
History: There used to be many more RT highways on the main island. All of them except for the RT1 were downgraded to provincial highways and the number RT2 was reassigned on Lifou.
