STARING - NEW YORK
(by Cella)
I opened the curtains this morning, and in the cold, misty January, saw the first light of day over Central Park. I watched for a while -- the sun rose and made the sky glow orange, and cast shadows on the skyline.
I'm going to miss this view. How lucky -- no. How blessed I've been to have this place, this view, this city, at my feet.
I expected a hard winter when I first laid my bags on this bed, but it's been more like a chilly spring. Again, blessed. I've never done well in snow.
They've treated me like a king. Picked me up, fed me at chic restaurants, taken me to shows and shopping, anywhere I wanted to go. And the greatest part of going out? Nobody's bothered me! I'm just one of the millions here. Strangely enough, that's been a good thing, an absolutely amazing thing. New York is nothing like I thought it was. Yeah, I've been here a few times, but not like this -- not for so long. This extra time has shown me why it's so special.
I'd never admit it to anyone, but...I like it. I think could live here! This scrawny hick from Carolina actually feels comfortable on this concrete island where all the trees are in the center. I can't explain why, it's just that feeling. That feeling of...belonging.
They say you're either an L.A. person or a New York person. After having been here only a month, I definitely know which one I am.
But, home is still home.
Maybe, just maybe, if I become even more blessed, maybe I could own a view like this. It wouldn't have to be a big place, just a place with this view. Probably not, though. There's no way I can possibly be any more blessed than I already am, and there are so many people out there who need blessings far more than me.
Tonight, I have to pack up. I finished recording. They've got another artist coming in tomorrow. But, until then, this place, this view, this city - is still mine.
Raleigh? Let's go for a walk in the park.
