November 1327. The Benedictine novice Adso of Melk and the ex inquisitor William of Baskerville arrive at an abbey in the northern Italy, where brother William has to accomplish a delicate diplomatic mission.

The abbey, however, is troubled by seven mysterious murders, which happen in seven days according to Apocalypse's predictions. Brother William is charged by the abbot to solve this mystery, that revolves round the labyrinthine library of the abbey.

Both medieval chronicle and detective story, The Name of the Rose is a very intriguing novel, able to satisfy the most exacting reader.
