A monthly article that focuses on someone in the game of boxing who is not a boxer This month's Spotlight is on referee Jay Nady
If I had to quickly make a decision, without any further research, of who I consider to be the best referee out there, Jay Nady is the first to come to mind. Nady is among the who's who in the boxing world. Having refereed noteable fights such as DeLaHoya vs. Gatti, Trinidad vs. Vargas. and Tszyu vs. Judah. Nady has made his mark on the world of boxing. Nady in recent years has caught the public's attention especially with a so-called contoversial decision and the unfortunate incident that followed the Tszyu/ Judah fight. Having come to the decision to stop the fight after the second round when Judah was hit by Tszyu's powerful right hand and was knocked down, immediately standing up again only to fall once more; Judah felt a need to shove his fist into Nady's throat in a very threatening fashion.

The Fair Jay Nady
Nady being the good official that he is, showed great professional restraint in not defending himself during the incident. Nady claims that he knew that Judah had suffered a concussion, he could see that Judah's eyes were not focusing, he wasn't even aware that he had been knocked down. Conscience or not, Judah was extremely wrong for having acted in this unprofessional, juvenile, Mike Tyson-like manner. Things like this should not go untolerated in boxing or any sport for that matter. Nady commented later at a Reno hearing that Judah had expressed appreciation for his decision to stop the fight, admitting that it may have saved him. Saving boxers is what referees are supposed to do in my book. So Jay Nady, you're a good referee and a real nice guy.
