Hackett, Ray T.
Born in Delaware County, NY Apr. 10, 1895, son of Ervin E. and Laura Webb (Wolfe) Hackett. He attended public schools in Bellefonte, Pa., Albany Law School. and was admitted to the bar in 1920. He open a law office in the Press Building and was appointed to the position in the district attorney's office.He was a member of Masons, and the Broome County Sportsman's Club. He married Mar. 6, 1917, Lael Bryers of Binghamton.

Hadden, Orville E.
Born in Candor, NY June 7, 1878, son of Steven and Ellen Hadden. He attended public schools of Candor and assisted his father on the farm. He served on the police force in Owego, Tioga County,NY before coming police chief in Johnson City. He married in 1901 in Tioga County, Nellie Drake, daughter fo Jedediah and Emma Drake. They had one son, Howard J.

Hadsell, Jerome Best
Born in Warnerville, Schoharie County, NY, July 11, 1865, son of Jerome B. and Diana Hadsell. He received his education in the schools of Cobleskill, N Y, qualifying for the work of stenographer. He secured a position in the office of William C. Lamont, surrgate judge and later was employed in the office of Hon. Joseph A. Ramsay, state senator. He accepted a posaition with Kilmer 7 Company and became president of the Binghamton Press. He was a member of Shriners, Elks, Rotary Club and the Binghamton Country Club. He married in Binghamton, Jan. 9, 1902, Jennie DeVoe, daughter of BEnjamin and Sarah Jane ( Moore) DeVoe.

Hall, Earl Reaveley
Born in Norwich, Ny, Mar. 9, 1899, son of Daniel R. and Alta M. Hall. He graduated from the Agricultural School in Morrisville, NY and demostrates the sucessful manner in which he raises vegetables for the markets in Binghamton. He married June 29, 1921 Nita Monell, daughter of Louis and Minnie (Mason) Monell.

Hammond, Clarence Albert
Born in Chestertown, NY, June 8, 1874, son of Hannibal and Hattie B. (Mills) Hammond. He received his training at William Cullen Bryant School of Cumminton, Mass.When he was 13 years of age he entered Lowell Business College in Binghamton and became employed at the Hotel Bennett. He later accepted a position at the Grand Hotel in New York City. He returned to Binghamton and secured a position at the Arlington Hotel. He later became manager of the Carlton Hotel and one year later he purhcased the hotel. He was a member of the Masons, Rotary Club, Sportsmen's Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Greeters of America Hotel Association. He married first, in 1898, Rachel Wiswell, she died in 1900 and he married second, in 1905, Anna Eisenhart, daughter of Owen G. and Levina E. Eisenhart. He had one child by his first marriage who died in infancy and children of his second marriage, Claire, Marian and Clarence Jr.

Hammond, Maynard Charles
Born in Port Jervis, NY Feb. 2, 1896, son of Dr. George Albert and Elsie Elizabeth Hammond. He graduated from Port Jervis High School and attended Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He entered upon his duties at the Orange County Farm Bureau and worked in connection with the State College of Agriculture at Cornell University. He married at Ithaca, NY, June 23, 1919, Lillian Antoinette Lybolt, daughter of Frank Lybolt. They had two children, Robert Avery born Mar. 27, 1921 and Maynard Charles born Feb. 4, 1923.

Hanrahan, Edward M.
Born in Binghamton, Sept. 21, 1867, son of Michael and Hannah (Gorman) Hanrahan. After graduating from high school he took a special course at Lowell Business College . His first business was that of a grocery store where he was a partner with his brother know as the Hanrahan Brothers Grocery. He later became employed with Larabee-Deyo Motor Truck Company, manufacturers of motor trucks. He became president of the company. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, director of Union Forging Company, and National Truck Builders Association. He married in 1890, Julia Stack and they had two children, Dr. Edward M. amd Marian R. who married Ira Ellsworth Swart.

Harding, Fred Monroe
Born in Nicholson, Pa., Sept. 12, 1861, son of Lemuel and Hannah E. (Halstead) Harding. He attended public schools in Scranton, Pa., entered employ of Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Company and was appointed to the station at Chenango Bridge.He married first , Jennie Smith, daughter of Robert and Katherine Smith and had one daughter, Janet. He married second, Laura Everette , daughter of Newton and Mary Everette and had Mary, Nellie and Lois.

Harding, Ogden L.
Born in Nicholson, Pa. Nov. 28, 1872, son of Lemuel and Hannah E. (Halstead) Harding. He attended public schools and his experiences were learned in his fathers store where he worked as a clerk. He engaged in railroad work, starting as a clerk and working his way to station agent. He married Feb. 21, 1900 in Binghamton, Mabel Dyer, daughter of John and Emma Dyer of Whitney Point.

Harding, Stanton M.
Born in Binghamton, Dec. 10, 1887, son of George L. and Julia (Monroe) Harding. He received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and attended Mercerburg Academy. He joined his father in the brokerage business and was later engaged with Sisson & Welden for a period of three years. He then went to New York City with Kalb-Fleisch Corporation. He returned to Binghamton and re-established his father's business, now known as George L Harding, Inc. with offices in the O'Niel Building.He was a member of Masons, Kiwanis Club, Elks, Shriners, Binghamton Club, Binghamton Country Club and Broome County Sportsmen's Club. He married in 1913, Reine Simpson, daughter of John B. and Harriet C. (Pratt) Simpson. They had one child, Harriette M. born in 1914.

Harris, Clarence E.
Born in Avoca, Luzerne County, Pa., Nov. 7, 1877, son of John L. and Lena M. (Shales) Harris. He graduated from high school in Pittston, Pa.and went to Scranton where he secured employment with a jeweler. He learned the trade as jeweler and returned to his birthplace and opened his own business. After ten years he sold out and became superintendent of International Correspondence School, traveking coast to coast for five years. He came to Binghamton and was associated with Lowell, Jones & Bailey Company, jewelers, and later established his own business. He married in 1898, Alberta Lee of Wyoming County, Pa.. They had three children, Lee C. born Mar. 6, 1899, Cecil M. born Jan. 4, 1901 and Thelma D. born Aug. 4, 1904.

Harris, Frank E.
Born in Jersey Shore, Pa., Jan. 21, 1867, son of Elmer D. and Mary E. (Geer) Harris. He obtained his education in the schools of Whitmey Point and became a salesman for Mosher Bros. of Utica, NY, wholesalers in spices.He later opened a business of his own in Bingahmton , manufacturing flavored extracts. H was a memebr of the Masons, Binghamton Club and Chamber of Commerce. He married in 1886, Carrie B. Goodale of Marathon, NY, daughter of George A. and Frances E. (Hulslander) Goodale. They had children, Clifford, G., Robert E., Norma B. and Glayds D.

Harris, Herbert D.
Born in Vestal, Dec. 31, 1860, son of Thomas and Mary E. (Coleman) Harris. He attended the public schools of Vestal and graduated from Binghamton High School. H e was engaged with the largest commercial textbook publishing company in the country and traveled extensively thoughout the United States. He is one of the oldest established businesses in Vestal and prominent in civic affairs. He was a member of Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and director of the Farmers National Bank. He married in Vestaal, June 30, 1903, Susie Crandell Rounds, daughter of Jacob Lansing and Susan( Crandell) Rounds.

Harrison, Neil Graham
Born in Greene, Chenango County, NY, June 8, 1890, son of James A. and Ida V. Harrison. He graduated from Greene High and entered Albany Law School, graduating in 1911. He then entered the law offices of Hinman, Howard & Kattell where he remained five years, accepting employment with Harrison & Clark. He served in the war at Officers Training Camp at Camp Zachary Taylor Camp, Kentucky.He was a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Elks, American Legion and Masons. He married first in Bingahton, Dona Wilbur May 1, 1917, daughter of Cortland A. and Helen (Lamb) Wilbur. They had children, James W., Richard A. and Mary Elizabeth. This wife died Aug. 6, 1921. He married second, Louise Morris Machado , daughter of Louis and Mary (Beardsley) Machado.

Harvey, Zina A.
Born in Tioga County, Dec. 3, 1886, son of Frank A. and Alice M( Hoff) Harvey. After completing his education in the public schools, he entered Lowell Business College and accepted a position with the Fair Store in Binghamton. He was manager of credit and collections. He was a member of the Masons, Kalurah Temple, Shriners, Kiwanis, and Chamber of Commerce. He married in 1908, Alice F. Finch and they had one child, Roger A. born in 1910.

Haskell, Guy B.
Born in Swampscott, Mass. Aug. 20, 1875, son of Charles A. and Mary R. (Story) Haskell. He received his education in the public schools of Newton, Mass. He prepared for college at Phillips Exter Academy and attended Harvard University, graduating in 1898. He began his business in the employ of James B. Weed & Co. , leather tanners, and served in the capacity of salesman. He came to Bingahmton in the employ of Sportsmans Supply Company, holding the office of secretary and treasurer.He later associated with James Cary Company, makers of work overalls. He after formed a partnership with John A. Davids known as Haskell& Davids , engeaged in the manufacturing of overall. He was a member of the Binghamton Club and Chamber of Commerce.

Haskins, Fred Henry
Born in New Brittan, Conn., Apr. 1, 1859, son of Henry and Lucy (Cowles) Haskins. He made his way into merchantile life by joining the firm Hills, McLean &Williams. He later became a member of the firm which then became Hills, McLean & Haskins and as result great expansion of trade was experienced year to year becoming the largest department store in Binghamton. In 1894, he married Grace Crary of Hancock, NY and had children, Horace Henry, Lucy Cowles, Polly Burr, Grace Dorothy (deceased) and Grace Emily .

Hawkes, Charles W.
Born in Wilson Hill, six miles north of Binghamton, Feb. 20, 1869, son of Dexter and Jane (Ross) Hawkes. He began his education at Wilson Hill, continued at Hooper in the Town of Union and finished in Binghamton. He continued his studies at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. He opened a drugstore on Clinton St. in Binghamton which he operated for two years, before opening a store in the line of art supplies and artists materials, also carrying wallpaper. He married first Jan. 23, 1912, Mrs. Anna (Yetter) Bailey, daughter of John B. and Caroline Yetter, and second, Andrea Frink, daughter of Orville N. and Nellie (Kent) Frink.

Hawkes, Dexter
Born in Deerfield, Mass., 1824, son of Samuel Hawkes who was a descendent of the early New England pioneer, John Hawkes , founder of the Hawkes in America. Dexter Hawkes came to Castle Creek at the age of two, became a farmer on Wilson Hill, married Jane Ross born in Glasgow, Scotland. He later moved to Endicott.They had chiildren Carles W. and Lila B.

Heath, Ward
Born in Windsor, Mar. 22, 1874, son of Irving and Hattie ( West) Heath. He assisted his father who was engaged in farming and carpentry. He continued to follow agriculture pursuits and engaged in lumbering. He married, Mar. 3, 1897 in West Windsor, Mary E. Simpson, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Carrier) Simpson. They had children, Douglas born Nov. 12, 1899, Hattie born Mar. 16, 1902, Russell born Mar. 12, 1906 and Carrie born Apr. 27, 1908

Hecox, William H.
Born in Buffalo, NY, Feb. 9, 1861, son of William H. and Augusta (Foster) Hecox. He was educated in the schools of Binghamton He associated first with First National Bank, then Frank D. Lyon Insurance and began his own business . He was director of the People's Trust and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and Elks Club.

Hein, Jean B.
Born in Germany, Sept. 1, 1865, son of Heinrich and Rosina (Weber) Hein. He came to America and settled in Owego and secured a position as clerk in the office of the division of freight for the Erie railroad. He later became auditor for the Addison & Pennsylvania Railroad. He located in Binghamton and entered the employ of Davidge, Crary & Horton, tanners and lumber dealers where he worked for over thirty years. He formed a partnership with Urban S. Greene and they opened an office offering their services as public accountants. He was a member of the Masons, Elks, Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, Binghamton Club and Binghamton Country Club. He married Feb. 22, 1905, Margaret Eitapenc, daughter of Fred and Sarah (Finch) Eitapenc. They had one daughter, Margaret Johanna born July 25, 1909.

Hennessey, Henry James
Born in Binghamton, Apr. 10, 1876, son of John and Mary (Clancy) Hennessey. He attended Binghamton Public schools and studied law at the offices of Curtiss & Newell.He was admitted to the bar July 1898 and took up practice as a junior member of the firm Newell & Hennessey. He was a member of the Broome County Bar Association, Elks, Eagles Club, Knights of Columbus and Binghamton Council. He married in Ithaca, NY Feb. 5, 1902, Mayme A. Sheldon, daughter of Jones P. and Ellen (Tracy) Sheldon. They had children, Eleanor born Aug.28, 1904, Mary born Jan. 27, 1908, Sheldon John born Oct. 10, 1912 and Henry James, Jr. born Mar. 3, 1920.

Hill, Charles L.
Born in Binghamton, Oct. 20, 1867, son of Frederick and Catherine (Thorne) Hill. Following his student days in the public schools of Binghamton, he learned the trade of cigar making which he abandoned , seeing greater possibilities in the manufacture of ice cream. He opened a plant in a small way, but it grew to occupy the entire building of the it's location and employed fifteen people. He was a prominent member of the Masons. He married in 1888, Mary L. Morse, and had one child, Fred C. Hill.

Hill, William H.
Son of Dr. William J. and Elizabeth (Sowden) Hill , graduated from high school in Binghamton and was elected to the State Senate in 1914 , where he was made chairman of the finance committee and elected to Congress in 1919. where he was assigned to three important committees; Banking, Finance and Civil Service Committee. He was active in and produced many bills to Congress. He was sole owner of the Morning Sun Newpspaer in Binghamton for many years. He was a member of the Elks, Shriners, Masons, American Red Cross and Red Men. He married Apr. 23, 1902, Maude Evelyn Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.Fred Johnson of Johnson City, NY and they had two children, Richard and Dorothy.

Hinds, Frank W.
Born in Fenton, NY 1865, son of Marvin D. and Henrietta (Crocker) Hinds. He graduated from Binghamton High School and formed an association with John Ray Clark Company, wholesale dealers in hats and caps and eventually purchased Crocker Printing Company of which he became treasurer and secretary.He married Cora Lewis. They had one child.

Hines, Earl G.
Born in Spencer, NY Apr. 15, 1884, son of Henry and Anna (Gordon) Hines. After completing public schools of Spencer, began to follow farming and worked around neighboring farms for several seasons. Perceiving that he had a natural ability for this work, he deceided to make this his occupation. He became superintendent of the large estate know as the Louden Valley Farms. He served in the Spanish-American war. He married Aril 31, 1910, at Cortland, NY, Della Hall Baldwin, daughter of Charles and Alice (Hillard) Baldwin. They had children, Alice Hillard born Apr. 4, 1915 and Gorden Baldwin born May 19, 1917.

Hinman, Harvey D.
Born in Pitcher, Chenango County, NY, Sept. 17, 1864, son of Edward and Eveline (DeBell) Hinman. He was educated in the public schools there and attended Cincinnatus Academy. He prepared for the profession of law at Albany Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1889. He came to Binghamton and entered the offices of Carver & Deyo , leaving them to become associated with JudgeLyon as a law clerk. He became a junior associate of the firm Lyon, Painter & Hinman, later joining the firm of Hinman, Howard & Kattell. He married in Binghamton, Nov. 26, 1901, Phoebe A. Brown and had one son, George Lyon.

Hirschmann, Sigmund J.
Born in Bavaria, Germany, May 15, 1837. Came to this country wirh his brother, Frederick, in 1854 , worked as an apprentice in a merchantile house in New York City and Syracuse and came to Binghamton in 1858. With their joint savings they opened a small but well stocked dry goods store on Court Street, known as the Hirschmanns Brothers & Company. He was vice president of First National Bank, a director of Binghamton Gas Company, director of the Binghamton Savings Bank and a trustee of the Binghamton Public Library. He married Oct. 15, 1860, Pauline Marxstein of Mobile, Alabama. They had two children, Edith who married Elias Roos and Seymour S..

Hitchcock, Colonel Charles
Born in Binghamton, Nov. 12, 1857, son of Henry S. and Mary (Smith) Hitchcock. He graduated from Binghamton High School and followed a course of arts and letters at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. He taught school for a time in Rhinebeck-on-the-Hudson and became assistant to the principal. He returned to Binghamton and studied in the law offices of Millard & Stewart and was admitted to the bar in 1884. He formed the association of Carver, Deyo & Hithcock. He enlisted in the military in 1882 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1889 and to captain in 1897. He married in Ithaca, NY, Aug. 1891 Estlelle Heath, daughter of Harry and Minerva Heath of Ithaca.

Hoadley, Robert E.
Born in Camanche, Clinton County, Iowa Mar. 29, 1879, son of Robert B. and Harriet (Rood) Hoadley. He obtained his education in the public schools of Binghamton and received his Bachelor of Engeering degree at Union College in Schenectady, NY. He was identified with West Maryland Railroad for five years, then went to Nevada with Western Pacific Railroad, but returned to Binghamton in the employ of New York State Highway Department. He formed an association with John A. Giles , known as Hoadley & Giles. He was a member of Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, Masons, Elks and Society of Engineers of America. He married in 1909, Florence C. Jones, of Burlington, Vermont and had one daughter, Jane born in 1910.

Hollingshead, William R.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Mar. 28, 1868, son of Robert and Mary Rebecca (Wellar) Hollingshead. He attended the public schools of Toronto and was employed in the postal office in that city. He later went into the manufacture of bicycles for the Monarch Comapny in Chicago, Illinois and was sent as representitive of the company to the New York office. He gave this venture up and went to Bound Brook, New Jersey where he went into business with Mr. Wirtz in the manufacture of bicycle fittings. This business became the largest producers of this line in the country.In 1900, Mr. Hollingshead sought new fields to conquer and he became associated with N.K. Fairbanks Company and was sent to Buffalo as manager of the plant. While engaged in the Buffalo plant he was inspired to establish a business dealing with household commodities and came to Binghamton organized the W.R. Hollingshead Company. He was a member of the Masons, Rotary Club, Shriners and Chamber of Commerce. He married in 1900, Catherine C. Campbell of Chicago. They had children, William Robert, Jr. born 1901, David C. born 1903 and Jessie May born 1910.

Holmes, Fay
Born in Medora, Indianna, Mar. 29, 1895, son of Frank and Alice (Gibson) Holmes. He attended the public schools of Marshall, and entered the employ of a bottling works in Terre Haute.He came to Binghamton and opened the Coca Cola Bottle Works, a properous company, it served seven counties. He married in 1915, Mary E. Grover of Indianna and had children, Josephine F. born May 13, 1917, Francis Leonard born Mar. 2, 1919, Mary C. born Apr. 6, 1920 and Alice A. born Sept. 9, 1922. Holyoke, Ralph W.
Born in Marloboro, Mass. Mar. 16, 1882, son of George and Alice L. (Phipps) Holyoke. He received his education in the public schools of Johnson City and went into the employ of Endicott-Johnson Shoe Corp. After ten years he went to work at the Endicott Post Office and advanced to the position of assistant postmaster. He was a member of the Masons, Kulurah Temple, Shriners and Odd Fellows.

Hooks, Major Don M.
Born in Oswego Coiunty, NY, Mar. 29, 1868, son of James, who was born in Ireland and Laura J. (Decker) Hooks. He received his elementary studies in the country schools, attended Central Square High School and graduated from Cazenovia Seminary. He then entered the University of the City of New York and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree.He began a pracrice of his chosen profession in St. Lawrence County, NY, which he maintained for seven years before coming to Binghamton. He then opened offices here and followed the lines of medicine and surgery. He served on the Mexican border with rank of Captain, assinged to duty at the Medical Training School at Fort Benjamin Harrison as an instructor and made administrative officer at General Hosipatal Camp Know, Kentucky.. He married in 1893, Cora Tracey of St. Lawrence County.

Hopkins, Fancher Maurice
Born in Whitney oint, Apr. 30, 1883, son of Charles E. and Alice L.(Hall) Hopkins. He attended the public schools in Binghamton and graduated from Central High School in 1902.He entered into the employ of New York Life Insurance Company and went into selling insurance at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He accepted a position with Southland Life Insurance Company in Dallas, Texas, but later returned to Binghamton. At this time he became associated with the Elmira Telegram as manager of the Binghamton office and in 1911 was elected city clerk. He later was appointed postmaster of Binghamton. He was a member of Chamber of Commerce, Masons, Elks, Rotary Club and Binghamton Country Club. He married in Johnson City, Jan. 1, 1907, Mary Louise Beach, daughter of Charles and Viola (Gray) Beach and had one daughter, Alyce Viola born Oct. 27, 1910.

Hopton, Edwin Franklin
Born in Lancaster, Pa. Mar. 25, 1861, son of William and Anna Hopton. He attended the public schools of in Lancaster and received a commercial education at Trimmers College. He began his business career with J.C. Spaeth, a confectiooners of Lancaster where he remained for five years. He then had brief business connections in New York, Philadelphia, Newark. He came to Binghamton to take charge of the manufacturing of candy at Lloyd and Shrimpton, manufactureres of wholesale candy. . In 1907 he purchased the candy factory of Hill-Warner-Fitch Company to become the Ideal Carmel Factory in Johnson City. He was a member of Chamber of Commerce, Odd Fellows, and Binghamton Country Club. He married Elizabeth Single and had two daughters, Alice Anna who married Dr. Frank Preston and Jessie Elizabeth who married Herbert Hall.

Horvatt, Andrew J.
Born in Binghamton, son of Alexander and Ann Horvatt, he attended public schools and Lowell Business College. He became associated with Security Mutual Life Insurance Company, established a private bank in his own name and took a leading place in the world of finance in Broome County. He also conducted a real estate business and insurance company. He was member of American Bankers Association, Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Eagles and Rotary Club.

Hotaling, William M.
Born in Sullivan County, NY, June 13, 1888, son of Levi D. and Emma (Earl) Hotaling. He received his education in the public schools of his home vicinity and attened Cornell University. He was superintendent of a stock farn in West Virginia before coming to Binghamton in 1910, where he took charge of the Hill Crest Farm. He later bought out the farm, which distributed dairy products producing 3000 quarts a day being one of the largest in the area. then known as Hotaling Dairy. He married in 1915, Kathryn Barnes Ryan.

Hotchkiss, Clarence Francis
Born in Unadilla, NY, Dec. 18, 1859, son of Edgar F. and Caroline (Enos) Hotchkiss. His education was acquired in Unadilla and he attended West Winfield Academy in West Winfield, NY. He started his business career in wholesale produce, buying from farmers in the area and shipping to New York City. He was associated with Crandall, Stone and Company in the capacity of salesman and his next step was in the employ Stow Manufacturing where he eventually bought out the interest of Mr. Stow and led the organization to great sucess.He was a director of First National Bank, trustee of ChenangoValley Bank, director of Security Mutual Life Insurance, a member of the Chamber of Commerce,the Masons, Odd Fellows and Binghamton Country Club. He married in Buffalo, NY, June 1, 1887, Carrie Ella Briggs, daughter of James and Angeline (Redway) Briggs. They had children, Angeline Redway born May 1, 1888, who married D. Walker Ware, Frances Sheffield born Mar. 24, 1889 who married James T. Ivory, Ruth Enos born Sept. 3, 1892 who married Harry Tiffany, Katherine Briggs born Mar. 24, 1900 and Clarence Francis, Jr. born Mar. 10, 1901.

Hotchkiss, Mark Stewart
Born in Onondaga County, NY, Mar. 11, 1858, son of Henry W. and Cynthia (Stewart) Hotchkiss. He attended public schollss, studied at the academy and completed a course at Meads Business School.He went west a few years, and followed agricutural in Minnesota and South Dakota, experiencing the hardships of pioneer life. He cam to Binghamton in 1896 and entered into business as a building contyractor. In 1910 he formed the Hotchkiss Steel Form Company which grew over the years and became the Hotchkiss Steel Products Company . He married first in 1885, Ella Roe who died in 1899 and he married second, Mary Roe, a sister of his first wife and both daughters of William and Amanda (Alexander) Roe.

Hough, Frank Palmerston, M.D.
Born in Mill City, Pa.., Mar. 12, 1859, son of Thomas amd Maria (Baxter) Hough. He was a pupil in the schools of Mill City and attended Keystone Academy at Factoryville, Pa. and thence to the Wyoming Seminary at Kingston, Pa. He then entered Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and graduated as M.D. in 1884. In 1890 he established offices in Binghamton He married first, June 26, 1884, ane Lucinda Sherwood, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1915, and married second, Mrs. Montana H. Allen of Brooklyn, NY.He had one som by his frist wife, Thomas Louis .

Howard, Archibald
Born in Mill City, a. May 25, 1872, son of Amos and Caroline Howard. He attended the schools near his home, entered Lafayette College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later received a Master of Arts degree. He took up a legal education under the apprenticeship of George Lyon and was admitted to the bar in 1896. He was a member of the firm of Hinman, Howard & Kattell. He married Aug. 31, 1904, Winifred Smith, daughter of Benjamin Smith. They had two children, Helen and James.

Howard, Coit A.
Born in Oneonta, NY, Jan. 21, 1886, son of Daniel B. and Althea R. (Burdick) Howard. His education began in his birthplace and he received training at Albany Business College. He was employed with Delaware and Hudson Railroad and served as yardmaster in Nineveh, NY. He became identified with the Equiupment Motor Company and established his own Motorin Garage in Binghamton in 1921 for the purpose of storing and parking over 130 automobiles. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Elks. He married in 1908, Hazel Kelley of Oneonta.

Howard, Frank G.
Born in Castle Creek, 1890, son of Jesse C. and Alma E. (Gray) Howard. He graduated from Johnson City High School and entered Lowell Business College. He enetered the employ of A.L. Davis & Sons , farm equipment, and deceided to pursue the trade of agriculture. He was a member of the Masons, Farm Bureau, Binghamton Club and the Binghamton Grange. He married , in 1912, Anna R. Webb and they had one son, Norman W. who was born in 1914.

Howard, Henry D.
Born in Auburn, Susquehanna, Pa., Jan. 4, 1852, son of Samuel Bloomfield and Hannah (Bunnell) Howard. He received his education in the schools of Auburn which he supplemented with extensive reading, oberservation and special training. After coming to Binghamton he he entered into the civic affairs of the town and in all the offices to which he was appointed, he discharged all his duties incumbent on them in a manner whichhad brought satisfaction to his contingents. He married Aug. 18, 1880, In Bingahton, Mary Addison, daughter of Robert and Catherine (Wilson) Addison. They had children, Robert Wilson born May 16, 1881 and Claude Raymond born Aug. 5, 1886, who married Pauline Hogg and had a son Claude Raymond, Jr.

Hubbard, Robert Brush
Born in South Montrose, Pa., son of Otis and Jane (Brush) Hubbard and grandson of Asa Hubbard of Conn. After completing his education in district schools, he assisted his father on the farm. He then went into business for himself , giving his attention to lumbering and branched out into contracting. He married Sept. 19, 1895, in Windsor, NY, Flora Moat, daughter of Henry and Mary (Phillips) Moat.

Huber, Charles
Born in Syracuse, NY, Nov. 11, 1880, son of Conrad and Elizabeth Huber. His father engaged in trucking and after completing his formal education in the public schools of his native place , the son, accustomed to helping his father in his work , continued in this line for several years. He later was appointed to Chief of the Endicott Fire Dept. and was a member of the Masons, Shriners and Elks. He married , in Endicott, Mary Theresa Sutton, daughter of John and Eliza Sutton and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Marjorie.

Huffcut, Lillian Leticia
Born in Kent, Conn., Sept. 6, 1859, daughter of Ambrose H. and Luznia A. Huffcut. Following her elementary school studies in Afton, Chenango County, NY, she entered Bellvue Hospital in New York City for her training and took up her post graduate work at General Memorial Hospital in New York City. She completed this splendid career preparation with a special course at Univeristy of Indianna. She took up the practice of her chosen profession in San Franisco, Cal. She then came to Binghamton and continued her work . She became very active in the campaign for womens sufferage She became a member of the state board of directors of the League of Woman Voters. She was a member of the Civic Club and Zonta Club.

Hull, Clayton W.
Born in Delaware County, NY, July 4, 1865, son of Watson D. of Madison County, NY and Augusta (Johnson) Hull. He attended schools in Broome County and became a partner in the firm Hatton & Stone, sometime later becoming McIntyre & Hull. These gentlemen conducted this business for ten years when it became Clayton W. Hull & Sons. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Masons, Shriners, Sportman's Club and Chamber of Commerce.He married first, in 1884, Bessie A. Penny and had children, Sadie E., Harry M., Jess C. and Hazel M. He married second, Caroline Jackson.

Hull, John, Jr.
Born in Chenango County, NY, son of John and Sophia Hull. He was educated in the academies of Binghamton and Cortland and spent some time as a teacher before establishing his own cigar business. He established the Hull, Grummond & Company, manufacturers of cigars until it became the largest in the area. He was director of First National Bank and trustee of Peoples Trust Bank, a member of the Binghamton Club and the Binghamton Country Club. He married Ida E. Sibley , daughter of Dexter and Jane Sibley and had one daughter, Elizabeth S.

Humphrey, Ray Holly, M.D.
Born in Scottville, Columbia County, NY, Apr. 28, 1887, son of Elbert Henry , M.D. of Rennselaer County, and Winifred (Brown) Humphrey. He attended the public schools of Rennselaer, the Rensselaer Polytechnis Institute of Troy, NY and Syracuse University in the engineering department. He later matriculated in the Medical College of Union University in New York, completing his medical study. He engaged in private practice and enlisted in the United States Army , serving at Medical Officers Training Camp at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was commissiioned a captain at Camp Logan, Texas, served in many great engagements in France and was seriously wounded. Upon his return, he again began his practice in Union. He was a member of Masons, Shriners, Elks, American Medical Association and Rotary Club. He married in Lebabon, NY, Oct. 31, 1908, Ethel Wright, daughter of Harry W. and Katherine Wright. They had children, William Holly born Dec. 16, 1909, died 1911, Doris and Jean, twins, born Oct. 4, 1913, and Elizabeth born Nov. 23, 1914. This wife died in 1921 and he married, Dec. 7, 1922 Lulu Bruce, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Bruce of Canto, Pa.

Hunter, Harry H.
Born in Meadville, Crawford County, Pa., Sept. 21, 1879, son of James S. and Lena (Knorr) Hunter. He attended public schools and entered into the grocery business. After ten years, he located in Binghamton where he became vice-president of Brown-Jackson Lumber Company, one of the leading dealers of lumber, builders and mill supplies.He married in Meadville, Oct. 14, 1902, Inez Waid and they are the parents of one son, J. Franklin born ar. 4, 1904.

Huntley, Frederick R.
Born in Binghamton, Mar. 21, 1888, son of Fred W. and Eliza (Wesler) Huntley. He received his education in the public schools of Binghamton, and began his active career in association with the Bump Art Store. In 1911, he beacme treasurer of the Norval S. Douglas Company, dealers in sporting goods. He was a member of the Masons, Red Men and Chamber of Commerce. He married Feb. 12, 1912, Laura Mable Stewart of Baraboo, Wisconsin, daughter of Charles and Anna Stewart. They had one child, Jane Elizabeth Huntley.

Hutchins, Frank M.
Born in Boston, Mass., Oct. 11, 1876, son of Isaish M. and Margaret Matilda (Laurey) Hutchins of Maine. He graduated from high school and attended Boston University where he learned the trade of custom tailoring. He remained in this work only a short time, then secured employment with Shreve, Crumb & Lowe in charge of their combination fixture work and later in the employ of Eastman Kodak at Boston. His next connection was with the Secret Service where he spent four years, E.B. Hall Company where he spent eleven years, Sperry Hutchinson Stamp Company, and United States Steel Company. He was connected with the Treasury Department during the war and upon his return, he engaged in the investment brokerage business. He married Nellie M. Everett of Portland, Conn., and had children, Evelyn born 1909, Frances born 1914 and Gwendolyn born 1919.

Hyde, Robert C.
Born Oxford, NY, Sept. 23, 1893, son of Asa P. of Pitcher, NY and Mary F.(Jacobs) Hyde. He graduated from public schools and with home study and practical experience he prepared for the engineering profession , employed by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.In 1919, he opened a business under R.C. Hyde Company, makers of blueprints, a business he later sold. He then came to Binghamton and opened Binghamton Circular Letter Company with offices in the Security Mutual Building. He was a member of the Mason, Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce.

Hyer, William Albert
Born in Pittsfield, NY, Sept. 6, 1866, son of Albert Hyer. After various positions in different fields of employment , he learned the business of auto repairing. He engaged in his own business in Nineveh, NY of auto repair and accessories and attained a position of standing in the community. He married in Nineveh, June 21, 1897, Addie (Stowe) Bancroft, widow of Ellsworth Bancroft and had child, William B. Hyer born in Nineveh, July 31, 1901.
