Talbott, Charles Warren
Born in Binghamton, Mar. 7, 1889, son of Page Warren Talbott and grandson of Joseph and Emily Dexter ( Page) Talbott. His education was begun in the public schools of this city and Lowell Business College, also in Binghamton. He spent his next two years in railroad construction , then became associated with his father's interest in the wholesale branch of the firm P.W.Talbott & Sons in the handling of hides and furs. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, National Hide Dealers Association and the Fur Dealers Association.

Tanner, Rev. Wilson Edward
Born in Henrico County, Virginia, Aug. 18, 1879, son of Rev. Edwin Lee and Anna (Wilson) Tanner.He attended the public schools of Richmond, Richmond College and St. Andrew's School of Theology in Syracuse, NY. He was ordained a Deacon in 1902 and his first pastorate was in Bainbridge, NY in charge of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Following this he accepted the call and went to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin, Chenango County, NY for over ten years. In 1918. He came to Trinity Memorial Church in Binghamton, where he remained thru his career. He was a member of the Masons and Rotary Club. He married in 1907, Sarah E. Harpur of Harpursville. The had one child, Robert Edward born 1916.

Taylor, Edward B
Born in Binghamton, Aug. 26, 1884, son of Leddra W. and Fannie L. (Brooks) Taylor, and grandson of Rev. Edward Taylor. He received his education in the schools of Binghamton, prepared for college at Andover, Mass and entered Yale University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree. He became associated with Price & McKing Fire Insurance Company in 1916 and bought Mr. Price's interest in that year. In 1917, he bought the remaining interest and became sole owner of the company. He was a member of the Masons, Chamber of Commerce, Shriners and the Binghamton Club. He married Oct. 6, 1910, Ethel Prassay and had one daughter, Dorothy born in 1913.

Taylor, Howard E.
Born in South Dakota, May 5, 1890, son of William P. and Harrie E. (Teeple) Taylor, came to Binghamton with his parents when a year old. He received his education in the public schools here and graduated from Lowell Business College. He entered Albany Law School, graduated in 1916 and was admitted to the bar in 1918. He practiced law with offices in the Security Mutual Building. He was secretary of the Broome County Committee of the American Legion, a member of the National Guard, a member of the Masons and Shriners. He married in 1920, Stella A. Chase, and had one child, Barbara A. born July 25, 1921.

Terry, Mach W.
Born in Walton, Delaware County, NY, Dec. 16, 1897, son of Thomas L. and Ida (Macomber) Terry. He attended public schools in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Norwich, Port Dickinson, Binghamton and Johnson City. He received his degree of Bachelor of Law from Syracuse University in 1919 and was admitted to the bar in 1920. He entered into partnership with Walter T. Couper, which became Couper & Terry.He was a member of the Masons, Chamber of Commerce, Shriners and American Legion.

Thiele, Paul J.
Born in Rochester, NY, May 12, 1882, son of Robert P. and Caroline (Heintzleman) Thiele. He came to Broome County with his parents as a young boy and received his education in the public schools of Binghamton. The first years of his boyhood were spent working with his father on the farm, but his ambition to engage in business, sent him to Scranton, Pa. where he entered the wholesale feed business, conducted under the name, Woodhouse & Thiele. After four years, he went to Paterson, NJ where he was employed in the locomotive works for the next four years. He then returned to Binghamton and entered the emply of Endicott-Johnson Shoe Manufacturing Corp. The opportunity then presented itself to gain possession of the Atwood Awning Company , and in company with his brother, Gustav, they purchased the company. He was a member of the Masons, and the Broome County Sportsman's Club.

Thomas, Irving, H.
Born in Cassville, Oneida County, NY, May 15, 1881, son of Charles H. and Frances L. (Knight) Thomas. He attended public schools in the town of Clayville and entered into an active career in the employ of his brother Jeremiah K. Thomas. Beginning in the capacity of office boy, his connection with Cutler Ice Company endured. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Elks. He married, Jan. 4, 1919, Coloma M White, daughter of James and Mary White. They had one dauighter, Mary Frances, born in 1920.

Thomas, Jeremiah K.
Born in 1868, son of Charles H. and Frances L. (Knight) Thomas of Cassville, Oneida County, NY. He received his education in the public schools of Clinton, NY and came to Binghamton as a young man. He was connected for many years with S.Mills Ely, wholesale grocer. He then went into partnership with P.E. Cutler of the Cutler Ice Company and in 1898, he bought out the company. He married in 1894, Edna Cutler, daughter of Perry E. and Angela (Shaw) Cutler, formerly of Dutchess County, NY>

Thompson, Walter E.
Born in Binghamton, Dec. 13, 1878, son of Charles H. and Margaret (Tate) Thompson. His father was born in Quebec, Canada and his mother born in New Jersey. He attended the public schools of Binghamton and took up home study courses with Alexander Hamilton Institute He also studied with International Correspondence School in Scranton, Pa. and entered the employ of Security Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Masons, Elks, Shriners and the Binghamton Club.

Tierney, Edward M.
Born in Susquehanna , Pa., he received his early education in the public schools and graduated from Fordham College in NY. He began his career as manager of a large general store and later manager of three hotels, which were successful and popular. In 1888, he formed a partnership with John W. Kennedy and they bought the site and built the Arlington Hotel. In 1889 they became propierters of the Rathburn Hotel in Elmira, NY. In 1904, with his associate, George W. Sweeney, they bought the Marlborough Hotel in New York City. He was organizer and vice president of the Hotel Rochester in Rochester, NY. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Board of Education and president of the New York Hotel Association.

Tiffany, Frank N.
Born in Plymouth, Pa., Dec. 18, 1878, son of Newell W.and Elizabeth B. (Bidell) Tiffany. He attended public schools of Binghamton and graduated from Ridley Business College. He entered the employ of S.L.Smith, a pharmacist, and continued in the drug business for nine years. He spent a year in California, but returned to Endicott, where he purchased the drug business of Alfred Spouse. He continued in this business for many years and was very successful. He was a member of the Masons and Chamber of Commerce. He married, Sept. 27, 1910, Florence M Howell, of Bangor, Pa., and had two children, Barbara H. born Oct. 14, 1912 and Jane N. born Mar. 29, 1915

Tinkham, Sylvender A.
Born in Dalton, Pa., June 19, 1888, son of Ezra Stiles and Jennie (Osborn) Tinkham. His education was obtained in the public schools of Clark Summit, Pa. and he began to make his way in the world at an early age. He worked assisting his father in the blacksmith shop and several years as a clerk in various grocery stores and engaged in this line on his own account. He attained a very successful position as a merchant in Vestal for many years, but the property was completely destroyed by fire in 1921. He purchased a site and built a modern and up to date store. He married in Union, May 20, 1918, Bessie Ackley, born May 11, 1892 in New Albany, Pa., daughter of Joseph L. and Jennie (White) Ackley.

Titchener, Charles E.
Born in Binghamton, Oct. 27, 1861, son of Edmund E. and Margaret M. (Ring) Titchener, both parents of prominent New York families.H ereceived his education in the public schools of this city and entered the employ of Crandall, Stone & Company where he became secretary of the company. Several small concrens were consildated to organize the firm Brewer-Titchener of which Charles E. Titchener was vice president. He was director of Union Forging Company, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and the Binghamton Cub. He married in 1888, Bertha C. Peck of California and had one son , Charles E., Jr.

Tobey, Charles Edward
Born on Morris, NY, Mar. 22, 1863, son of Albert B. and Helen (Osborn) Tobey. His father, a well known builder and contractor of Morris, NY and his mother a native of Otsego County, NY. He received his early education in the public schools of Morris and graduated from high school in Susquehanna, Pa. He entered the business field by accepting a position in the motor power department of Erie Railroad Company for ninteen years before moving to Buffalo, NY and later New York City, all offices of the railroad. In 1899, he received an offer from Delaware & Lackawanna Railroad, a position he endured for many years, starting as chief clerk in the coal mining department and rising to to Superintendent of trestles and storage. e later resigned this pposition in order to establish an independent business. and founded the Tobey Coal Cimpany in Binghamton. He was director of the Chamber of Commerce and Morris Plan Bank, a member of the Elks, Masons, Kiwanis,and Binghamton Country Club. He married , in 1884, Annie E, Bantram, of Susquehanna. They had five children, Charles B. born in 1885, Hazel D. born 1887, Albert T. born 1892, Clarence L.born 1897 and Anna E. born 1905.

Topliff, George Wilbur
Born on brooklyn, NY, Nov. 26, 1877, son of Cyrus Lyman and Margaret (Atwood) Topliff. He obtained his education in the public schools of Montclair, New Jersey,and began an active career with Sprague Electric Company. In 1897, he made a career change to emply with the Canadian Rand Drill Company and sent first to Ossing, New York and later Salt Lake City, Utah. and Buete, Montana. He came to Binghamton in 1905 with the Anthony Scoutt Company and in 19906 was vice president of Ansco. e was a member of the Board of Directors of City National Bank, Masons, Rotary Club, the Binghamton Club and the Binghamton Country Club. He married in New York City, Margaret Kingsland Cameron, daughter of Alexander and Florence (Burt) Cameron. They had one daughter, Margaret Kingsland born Aug. 27, 1900 who married Capt. Leland Hewitt.

Toulson, George Henry
Born in Alber, Orleans County, NY, Aug. 2, 1880, son of John and Sarah Ann (Hesketh) Toulson. He obtained his education in the public schools and apprenticed himself to learn the plumber's trade. For several he worked for the city of Buffalo, then came to Endicott and engaged in busiess as a plumber. He was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. He married in Williamsville,NY, Oct. 3, 1906, Laura J. Clute, born June 20, 1880, daughtyer of John H. and Susan (Kline) Clute.

Towner, Charles D.
Born in Binghamton, July 20, 1889, son of Dunham and Libbie C. (Chalker) Towner. His education was obtained in the schools of the city and his first business experience was in the employ of B.H.Nelson & Son, private bankers of Binghamton. He later became identified with People's Bank and formed a partnership with Everette Cook and engaged in the distribution of Brockway Trucks. He was a member of the Masons and Kiwanis.He married in 1911, Lulu E. Bush and had one daughter, Betty B. born in 1918.

Trauger, J. Webster
Born in Bucks County, pa., Mar. 4, 1886, son of Milton D. and Annie E. (Kohl) Trauger, he received his eduaction in the public schools of that place and attended Normal School in Kutztown, Pa., from there maticulated at Bucknell College, receiving a degree in Bachelor of Science. He engaged in the teaching profession in Pa. after which he deceided to enter the commercial life and accepted a position with E.I.DuPont. After that, he came to Binghamton as manager of Ideal Caramel Company, known as the largest caramel manufactureres in the country. He was member of the Masons and Chamber of Commerce. He married in 1911, Mabel F. Fenstermacher of Bucks County, Pa. and had two children, Margurite F. born 1911 and John F. born 1916.

Travis, Earl W.
Born in Franklin Hill, Susquehanna County, Pa., May 26, 1879, son of William H. and Ella L. (Smith) Travis. He attended Binghamton public schools and his first position was that of care taker at Susquehanna Valley Home. He then took a position with Albany Orpham's Asylum in Albany, NY. He made a study of the undertaking business under Frank Campbell and then purchased the business of W.E.Bogart in Endicott. He married Dec. 27, 1902, Jane L Lusk born inn Center Lisle, Oct.. 5, 1876, daughter of Cornelius M. and Kate Frances (Howell) Lusk. They had three children, Winifred born Nov. 13, 1907, Janet born Dec. 27, 1912 and Harvey born Oct. 17, 1914.

Treadwell, George Homer
Born in Conklin, July 6, 1894, son of Morris and Myra (Jewell) Treadwell and educated there in the public schools and Academy. He entered the employ of the railroad as assistant agent at New Milford, Pa. with Delaware, Lackawanna & Western.He learned telegraphy and was then employed as an operator for the railroad. He dealt in real eatate and had offices in the O'Niel Building. He was a member of the Masons, and Elks.

Treyz, Joseph H.
Born in Cook Falls, NY, Oct. 4, 1889, son of John E. and Rose H. (Holzman) Treyz. After finishing his studies in schools in that city, he became employed with Treyz Yager Company in their wholesale crockery house. He later accepted a position with T.E.Darrow & Company, wholesale and retail jewelers with headquarters in the Press Building. He was a member of the Masons, Chamber of Commerce, Binghamton Club, and Shriners. He married in 1917, Edna B. Leonard and had no children.

Treyz, Leo V.
Born in Cooks Falls, Delaware County, NY, son of John E. and Rose H. (Holzman) Treyz. He attended public schools and his first business experience was with Wells-Frago Express, which lasted for two years. He then became identified with Lowell & Darrow, an old and widely known jewelery firm. Mr. Darrow at that time withdrew from the company and recieved into partnership was Leo V. and J.H. Treyz. He was a member of the Masons, Chamber of Commerce and Shriners. He married in 1914, Helen Loretta Hartman, of North Branch, NY and had children, Robert H. born 1916 and John E. born 1918.

Truesdell, Edwin Summers
Born in Franklin Forks, Pa., Mar. 25, 1865, son of Rollin D. and Jeanette J. (Summers) Truesdell. His early education was acquired near his home and he graduated from Binghamton High School. His business career was begun in the employ of Marks & Clark, wholesale grocers, as a billing clerk. He later went on the road for the concern as salesmen and became assocciated with McTighe & Treusdell when they bought out Marks & Clark. He later sold his interest in the business to become associated with the firm Frank B. Newell in the organization of the new concern for distributiion of wholesale groceries. He became president of the company when Mr. Newell retired. He was director of the First National Bank, president of the New York State Wholesale Grocers Association, a member of the Binghamton Country Club and Binghamton Club. He married first, in 1890, Alice Root and after her death in 1898, he married 1902, Lillian Root.

Truman, James C.
Having lost his entire property in the Chicago fire in 1871, he cast his lot in Binghamton and egnaged in the produce business. Soon afterward he became associated with the "Daily Times" , but gradually drifted into other enterprises of greater importance and magintude which took him away from this city for several yeras. While in New Orleans, La. he contacted malaria , the effects of which he never fully recovered. He resided for a time in District of Columbia, having a position in the Treasury Department. He was appointed postmaster in Binghamton in 1888 and attained prominence in both State and National politics . He retired from active pursuits and never returned to Binghamton. He married June 6, 1863, Serena Wilbur of Fall River, Mass.

Tupper, Charles F.
Born in Broome County, Nov. 8, 1852, son of Morris Ferris and Juliet (Evens) Tupper. During his boyhood, he attended the Old Academy which stood where the courthouse now stands and studied law in the offices of Theodore F. McDonald and was admitted to the bar in 1876. He practiced law for the next four years, with an office in the Brigham Building, and was later elected county clerk, which he held six years. He organized , with the help of Charles M. Turner, the Security Mutual Insurance Compny but sometime later sold out his interests. He purchased the photography business of Mr. Turner and was successful in this line for several years. In 1895, he was elected a member of the State Legislature and when this term expired, he was appointed deputy collector of the internal revenue for the Binghamton district. e was a member of the Masons, and the Binghamton Club. He married in 1878, Carrie E. Landon of Vermont, daughter of John and Maria (Graves) Landon. They had children, Arthur W., Albert R., Charles F., G. Edmund and Arleen L. who married LeGrand Bush Jr.

Tuthill, Justice Theodore R.
Born in Moravia, Cayuga County, NY, July 19, 1868, son of Tyrus T. and Harriet (Robinson) Tuthill. He attended public schools and during boyhood his chief source of revenue was acting as guide to summer tourists who came to fish in Owasco Lake. It was then, through a conversation with Deputy County Clerk Charles F. Tupper and Charles M. Turner, one of the organizers of the Security Mutual Insurance Company, he became interested in a legal career. He attended Cornell Law School and was admitted to the bar one year before his graduation. He began his professional career in the offices of David C. Robinson of Elmira and later with C.A. and H.A. Clark with whom ,after two years as managing clerk, he was invited to join the firm. He was elected Justice to the Supreme Court in 1921. He was a member of the Broome County Bar Association, Binghamton Club, Binghamton Country Club, the University Club, and the Masons. He married, Mar. 18, 1909, Edith Paige, daughter of Clinton F. Paige.

Tyne, John J.
Born in Broome County, Apr. 10, 1870, son of Patrick and Catherine (Guthrie) Tyne.He was educated in the public schools and had a long experience in constructing state highways and city streets, having engaged in the construction business at an early age. Until 1910 he carried on the business alone, but in that year Clarence A. Willey was taken into partnership and the firm became Tyne and Willey. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He married in 1897, Bridget A. Houlihan of Susquehanna, Pa. and had children, Gerald F., Jerome P., Harlan E., Roger C., and John J. Jr.

Underwood, Daniel G.
Born in Lake Como, Wayne County, Pa., son of Willard G. Underwood. He received his education in the public schools and became associated with his father in the business of stone quarrying and farming. He gave most of his attention to the stone business and was one of the largest dealers in this section of the state. He was a leading citizen of the village of Deposit, NY and a member of the Masons. He married, July 27, 1887, in Owego, NY, Alice L. Lane born Mar. 4, 1864, daughter of Charles T. and Mary E. (Brownell) Lane. They had children, F. Elizabeth born Jan. 27, 1891 and Willard L. born Oct. 16, 1897.

Unkefer, Leonard B.
Born in Richardson County, Nebraska, Nov. 14, 1873, son of Adolphus P. and Minnie C. (Lynch) Unkefer. He received his education in the public schools and worked his way thru State University of Nebraska, graduating with a Bachelor of Law degree. He was admitted to the bar in 1900 and practiced law in Hyannis, Nebraska and was attorney for Burlington Railroad. He came to New York State in 1908, settled in Endicott and associated with I.E. House, forming the House-Unkefer Company for the purpose of milling and retailing lumber. He was a member of the Retail Lumber Dealer's Association, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Odd Fellows. He married, 1903, Mamie G. Light of Nebraska, daughter of Allen Light. They had two children, Leonard A. born 1907 and Alice K. born 1918.

Utley, Harry C.
Born in Senaca County, NY, son of Clay W. and Harriet (King) Utley. He was educated in the public schools and learned the plumbers trade. He became a journeyman working in different cities in New York and Penna. He formed a partnership with Robert Cunnimgham, which became Cunningham & Utley, heating and plumbing contractors. He later opened a general plumbing shop with E.V.Hingerford known as Hungerford & Company, which bought out the business of C.D.Decker in Johnson City, NY. The company did all plumbing and heating installations for the Endicott-Johnson factories, the Johnson City High School and many other jobs. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners and Odd Fellows. He married in 1910, Blanche Calhoun of Charleston, Pa. and had one son, Richard Clay born Apr. 29, 1912.

Van Amburgh, Fred Dewitt
Born in Newburgh, NY, Apr. 5, 1866 son of John and Lucy (Early) Van Amburgh, he received a practical education in the public schools of Brooklyn, NY. He entered the employ of the railroad until the age of 21, at which time he began the publishing business in Chenango Forks, becoming publisher of the Broome County "Herald" newspaper. In 1893 he became one of the owners of the Binghamton "Evening Herald" and was publisher of the "Binghamton Saturday Post". He was author of five books. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners, Rotary. He married Dec. 24, 1886 at Chenango Forks, Carrie Seeber, daughter of James and Mary ( Sabrineer) Seeber. They had no children.

Van Atta, Ralph O.
Born in Waverly, NY, Apr. 11, 1887, son of Clarence and Mary L. (Harding) Van Atta. After completing the public schools and high school of Binghamton, he engaged in the real estate business with Mr. Hotchkiss with whom he reamained for four years. He then began business as a real estate agent independently. He was a member of the Binghamton Real Estate Board, New York State Real Estate Board and the National Real Estate Board, A member of the Masons and Shriners. He married in 1916, Jesse Sherwood, and had two children, Mary Louise born in 1917 and Ralph Sherwood born in 1919.

Van Cleve, William F.
Born in Essex County, NJ , Mar. 10, 1856, son of Abraham and Mary J.(Looker) Van Cleve, he attended public schools here and worked summers in the manufacturing plant of Smith Brothers. Wlliam Griswold , a Yale graduate who saw the promise of a fine future for William Van Cleve, offered him use of an extensive library where he was able to study for his chosen profession as attorney of law. He was admited to the bar in 1889 and the firm of Babcock, Sperry and Van Cleve was formed. In 1898, he retired from this firm to accept a position with Judge Lyon as confidential clerk, where he remained for the next tweny years. He was director and treasurer of Cloverdale Farms Company, and served on the Binghamton Board of Education. He married in 1900, to Emily Beecher of Tioga County.

Van Patten, Claude
Born in the town of Union, Mar. 24, 1867, son of John J. and Charlotte (Ireland) Van Patten. He received his education in the public schools and completed a course in the local business college. He became asscoiated with his father in the work about the homestead and in due time suceeded in the ownership. He was a thrifty and progressive farmer and took interest in the public affairs of Vestal. He was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows and Red Men. He married Oct. 9, 1901, Vesta Bradshaw, born in Iowa July 10, 1882, daughter of Johnson and Charlotte (Baker) Bradshaw. They had children, Delight born Jan. 1, 1911, Wayne born June 10, 1917 and Beryl born Sept. 30, 1919.

Von Nostitz, E.
Born in Port Huron, Mich. Dec. 7, 1869, son of John J. and Herminie (Leeirsch) Von Nostitz. He received his education in the public schools of Detroit, Mich. and entered the Michigan College of Medicine. His first employment was with Michigan Drug Compny and he later became associated with Wood Products Company in Buffalo, NY where he remained for twenty years, eventually becoming superintendent of their Binghamton plant. He founded the National Cigar Box Company for the manufacture of cigar boxes and materials. He had financial interest in the Bennett Hotel Corp, of which he was vice president, and the Binghamton Chair Company on the Board of Managers. He was a memeber of the Chamber of Commerce, Masons, Elks and Rotary Club. He married in 1900, Annie C. Clark.

Vail, Samuel E.
Born in Bowling Green, Wood County, Ohio, he received his education in the public schools of Ohio and was employed by the "Wood County Sentinel" a newspaper of Bowling Green, an association he continued for twenty years. He went to Cleveland and established the Vail Company for the purpose of publishing books, and later merged with the Binghamton Book Company under the title Vail-Ballou Company. It's products, consisting of encyclopedias, text books, library books,and novels go to all parts of the Unites States. He married Sept. 8, 1884, Elsie D. Long of Bowling Green, Ohio, daughter of Jacob and Mary ( Klotz) Long. They had one child, Merl D. Vail.

Vance, Arthur Turner
Born in Scranton, pa., Oct. 10, 1872, son of Jule Comfort and Marietta (Southworth) Vance, he attended various public schools of Kansas and New York and graduated from Binghamton High School. He became interested in the newspaper business and was a cub reporter for the Binghamton "Leader". He became editor of the "Home Magazine" and was director of the First National Bank of Port Washington, NY. He married Oct. 18, 1894, Edith May Stratton, daughter of James D.and Helen M. Stratton. They had two children, Stratton Vance born Nov. 22,1896 and Edith Stratton Vance born Oct. 10, 1898.

Vaughn, Louis C.
Towanda, Pa., July 30, 1887, son pf Benjamin and Henna (Best) Vaughn. He obtained his education in the schools of Towanda and became clerk in the grocery and meat business. He later started business for himself, purchasing a store in Endicott. He was connected to the State Bank of Endicott and a member of the Masons. He married Nov. 14, 1910, in Brownlee, Pa., Elma M. Edsburh, daughter of Rudolph and Mary Edsburg . They had Carl W. born Aug. 1, 1911 and Anna May born Nov. 27, 1921.

Venner, Frank Courtney
Born in County Devon, England, July 18, 1869, son of William and Mary (Locke) Venner. He attended school in England and was active with his father in the burning of lime. He came to America at the age of twenty-four, bringing a young wife and settled in Syracuse, NY. He associated himself with Dey Registers Company which was eventually asorbed by Time Recording Company ( later IBM) and became manager of the Endicott plant. He was a member of the Mason and Elks. He married in London, Engalnd, Feb. 3, 1891, Florence Lillian Robertson, daughter of William and Jeanette (Stewart-White) Robertson. Vincent, Edgar La Verne
Born in Persia, Cattaragus County, NY, Dec. 14, 1851, son of Hiram and Wealthy C. Vincent. He obtained his education in the public schools of New York State, attended Friendship Literary Academy in Albany County and graduated from Union College in Schenecteday, NY. He was a clerk for the Interior Department, Wash., D.C. for six years and then became engaged in the newspaper business with Olean "Times" , Binghamton "Republican" Hartford "Journal" and Waverly "Advocate". He married in West Chenango, Dec. 30, 1880, Jennie S. Fuller, daughter of Otis and Louise J. Fuller. They had children, Edward Fuller born Dec. 30, 1881, Fannie E. born Feb 19, 1884 and Ralph M. born Mar. 17, 1892.

Vincent, Edward Fuller
Born in Wash.,D.C., Dec. 30, 1881, son of Edgar La Verne and Jennie S. (Fuller) Vincent. After attending the local schools, he entered Cortland State Normal School , graduating in 1904. He came with his parents to their farm in Broome County at the age of seven years and became familiar with farm life and it's duties, although , after completing his education, he became a school principal and was later employed in a general store in Allegany County. But after his marriage he returned to Maine, NY and engaged in dairying and farming. He was president of the Dairymen's League , supervisor of the town of Maine, and a member of the Masons. He married at Friendship, Allegany County, NY,Sept. 17, 1907, Lydia C. Corbin, daughter of Harmon A. and Lyra E. (Miner) . They had one child, Robert C. born Sept. 17, 1912.

Vincent, Wellington
Born in Susquehanna County, Pa., Feb. 24, 1914, son of Wellington Vincent. His education was obtained in the public schools of his home town and he apprenticed himself to the carpenters trade. He engaged in this business on his own account, built homes and saw the opportunity to engage in the real estate business. He was identified with the Farmer's National Bank of Union and was a member of the Masons. He married Aug. 27, 1881 in Susquehanna, Pa., Ida M. Corttrell, born there June 11, 1861, daughter of John and Mary (Sloccum) Corttrell. They had children, Hugh A. born June 9, 1882, Minnie born Apr. 5, 1884, Virginia born Oct. 4, 1885, Ralph born Oct. 30, 1887, Clarence, twin, born July 8, 1893, died 1893, Clinton born July 8, 1893, twin, , Tribly born 1897, Marjorie born Mar. 10, 1900 and Raymond E. born Dec. 15, 1910.

Wagner, Charles Gray, M.D.
Born in Minden, Montgomery County, NY, Oct. 10, 1856, son of Edward and Adlida (Gray) Wagner. His education was begun in the district school at Minden village and he graduated from Utica High School. He entered Cornell University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons and received the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He interned at Presbyterian Hospital in New York and was later appointed assistant physician at the New York State Insane Asylum at Utica, NY. Seven years later he accepted a position as superintendent at Binghamton State Hospital. He was a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Broome Medical Society, Rotary Club, Masons, and New York State Medical Society. He married Nov. 2, 1903, Elizabeth S. Bennett of Binghamton.

Waite, Arthur J.
Born in Broome County, Dec. 5, 1879, son of James E. and Sarah J. (Brissie) Waite. After completing his education in the public schools, he pursued a course at Ridley Business College. He engaged in business with his father in the lumber industry of Waite & Atwell in Gaines, Pa. He later entered the grocery business with his uncle for a period of three years, at which time he rejoined his father in a lumber business in Colesville. In 1912, he came to Binghamton with Truitt Brothers , dealers in leather and shoe findings. He married in 1919, Lois S. Bishop, of Tioga County, Pa. and one son, James born in 1920 and a daughter Lois Jane born 1922.

Wakeman, Howard V.
Born in Delaware County, NY, Mar. 14, 1893, received his education in the public schools of Vestal and the International Correspondence School of Scranton, NY. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and a director of Elliott Engineering Company.

Waldron, Frank R.
Born Great Bend, Susquehanna, Pa., July 4, 1875, son of Stephen P. and Sarah M. (Rogers) Waldron. He received his education in the public schools of Bingahamton, attended Columbia University and was admitted to the bar in 1901. He opened offices in the O'Niel Building. He married in 1910, Anna M. Southworth and had two children, Sarah J. born Dec. 9, 1913 and Stephen S. born Sept. 10, 1922

Wales, Byron Roger
Born July 17, 1879, son of Charles and Emaline C. Wales, he received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and entered Columbia Law School. He was admitted to the bar in 1901 and became associated with Frank Waldron in the practice of law. In 1916, he formed the firm of Wales & Meagher. He was a member of the Shriners, Elks, Kiwanis, and Eastern Star. He married Nov. 3, 1909, in Brooklyn, NY, Alice E. Cafferty, daughter of Darwin R. and Mary E. Cafferty. They had children, Darwin R., Mary E. and Georgia A.

Walker, Harry Clay
Born in Binghamton, Mar. 18, 1873, son of William J. and Sarah A. Walker, he obtained his education in the schools. He took up preparation for the law profession as a student with Curtis & Newell, prominent lawyers, and was admitted to the bar in 1894. He carried on an independent practice for twenty-five years, then formed a partnership of Walker & Wilbur. He was a member of the Masons, the Binghamton Club, Binghamton Country Club, Kiwanis, and Rotary Club.

Wallace, Harmon C.
Born in West Colesville, Feb. 17, 1854, son of Reuben and Adeline (Kipp) Wallace and receieved his education in that place. His father was a properious framer and he spent his early life aiding in the work of the farm. He later became associated with Standard Oil Company and continued with them until his retirement. He married in Candor, NY, Aug. 27, 1907, Nina Maria Willard, daughter of Lewis Douglas and Parthenia Ann (Elmendorf) Willard.

Walster, Peter C.
Born in New York City, Oct. 29, 1866, son of Peter and Katherine (Schnell) Walster, natives of Germany. He worked on various farms in New York He became identified with the New aven Carriage Company for a period of two years and then with Cortland Carriage Company and the Groton Carriage Company. He came to Binghamton and went into business for himself on Hawley St. occupying the entire building of five floors and thirty employees. He married, July 6, 1892, Hester L. Ashmead of Long Island, daughter of Benjamin and Louise (Lispenard) Ashmead. They had children, Arthur L. born 1900 and Mirian born 1902

Walter, Harry J.
Born in Whitney Point, June 21, 1868, son of anjamin F. and Sophia Walter, he received his education in the public schools, graduating from Whitney POint igh School. He entered Homer Academy and attended Cornell University. After garduation he engaged in public school work for nine years, as principal of Rushford, Wolcott and Waverly High Schools. He returned to his hometown and was one of the organizers of the First National Bank. He was president of the Point Electric Company and a member of the Masons. He married at Ithaca, NY, June 27, 1899, Maude M. Miller, daughter of George W. and Sarah C. Miller. They had children, Paul, Charlotte S. and Harry J. Jr.

Walters, Herman D.
Born in Owego, NY, Nov. 3, 1868 , son of William and Margaret (Phillips) Walters, he received his education in the public schools and Owego Acvademy. He studied law under eorge F. Andrews and was admitted to the bar 1891. He began the practice of law and then in 1895, came to Lestershire (Johnson City) NY and opened offices there, making his specialty real estate. In 1897 he removed his office to Binghamton in the Security Mutual Building. He married in Owego, Oct. 15, 1890, Laura Andrews and had children: L. Edith, Allyn A. (as spelled) , Marion F. and Robert S.

Warner, Frank E.
Born in Steuben County, NY, Jly 30, 1871, son of Johnson H., born in Canada, and Mehitable (Sturge), a native of NY ) Warner. After completing his schooling, he was variously employed and in 1897 established his own business as a ladies tailor and dress maker. His business grew so that it was necessary for him to move to larger area and finally to an entire building at 5 Court St, occupying all five floors. He was president of the Boys Club, a member of the Masons, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Shriners. He married in 1898, Alleyne R. Russell, daughter of William G. and Matilda (Sherwood) Russell. They had children, Florence Eleanor and Robert Russell.

Warner, David C.
Born in Union, NY, Aug. 25, 1872, son of Job M. and Lavina H. Warner. He obtained his education in the public schools of Union and soon after became associated with his father in the leather business where he continued until 1908. He was one of the organizers of the Farmers National Bank of Union and became it's first cashier. He resigned this position after eleven years and aided in the organization of the State Bank of Union , where he became president. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners and Rotary Club. e married June 30, 1909, Lillian Mix, daughter of Emory and Ella Mix. They had children, Theodore C., David M., Dora W. and Ralph I.

Waterman, Fay L.
Born in Union, June 8, 1871, son of John W. and Ruth (Thorne) Waterman. He was educated in the public schools and for several years worked various employments, always giving the best of his ability and knowledge. He was appointed supertinendent of the water works an office he held until his death, Oct. 17, 1922. He married Ellen Barto, daughter of Charles and Belle (Griswold) Barto.

Waterman, V. Ben
Born in Nichols, Tioga County, NY, Feb. 14, 1882, son of Walter S. and Dora (Hill) Waterman. He received his education in the public schools in Nichols and Johnson City. He began his career as propieter of a grocery store for five years, at which time he took employment with Endicott-Johnson Corp. After five years in this position, he went into the real estate business for himself opening offices in the Security Mutual Building. He married June 28, 1905, Martha E. Crocker, daughter of Alonzo C. and Caroline (Anderson) Crocker. They had two children, Dorothy J. born June 9, 1908 and Helen L. born Sept. 15, 1916.

Watrous, Truman Oliver
Born in Brooklyn, Susquehanna County, Pa., Nov. 15, 1866, son of Bradford Orson and Sallie (Burch) Watrous. He acquired his education in the public schools in Brooklyn and secured a position with Saxton & Herrick, retail shoe dealers of Binghamton. A few years later he became identified with a leading grocery business and eventually established a partnership with George Lake known as Watrous & Lake. This business was very sucessful, but he sold his interests and purchased Morton's interests with the firm of Rich & Morton, undertakers. He was supervisor of the Fifth Ward, elected city water commissioner, president of the City Council, a member of the Masons, Shriners, Eastern Star, Red Men and Elks. He married at Hop Bottom, Pa., Mar. 9, 1892, Ollie Ella Taylor, daughter of James and Lucy Abigail (Westcott) Taylor. They had two children, Lena born July 14, 1893 and Inez Abigail born Sept. 4, 1896.

Watson, Henry De Witt
Born in Cortland County, NY, son of Benjamin L. and Amelia (Jordan )Watson, he obtained his education in the public schools of Cortland and Cincinnatus. He attended Cornell University and the Univserity of Michigan receiving the degree of Medical Doctor. He interned for one year at New York University with post graduate studies at University of Chicago, New York University and John Hopkins University. He studied abroad and engaged in research work at Prince Wales Hospital in London with labatory work at Berlin and Vienna Universities. He was a member of the Broome County Medical Society, New York State Medical Society, the American Academy of Ophthlamogy and Laryngology a member of the Masons. He married Rosabell Maricle, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Dietrich) Maricle. They had one daughter, Bessie Josephine.

Wear, Major David Walker
Born in St. Louis, Mo., July 8, 1879, son of Lieut.-Col. David Walker and Laura (Beaty) Wear. He was educated in the public schools of St. Louis and Washinton, D.C His first business experience was in railroad contracting. He was later identified with Armour and Harriman interests in Chicago, the Chicago Subway and Automatic Telephone System, in charge of construction of the plants of American Manganese Steel Company, in charge of construction of the harbor docks and turning basin at East Chicago and later connected with the New York Central Railroad. He became associated with H.H.Rogers and made his home in Binghamton. He was vice president of Stow Manufacturing Company, makers and inventors of the flexible shafts and manufactured a complete line of electric tools and motors. During the war he was aide to the Govenor of the State of New York and attached to the Adjutant General's department with the rank of Major. He was a member of the Masons, Binghamton Club and Binghamton Country Club. He married 1911, Angeline Hotchkiss, daughter of Clarence F. and Carrie E. Hothckiss. They had children, David Walker born in 1914, Carolyn born 1916 and John Francis born 1917.

Weck, Henry
Born in Germany, Feb. 23, 1881, son of Phillip and Carolina (Germann) Weck. He was educated in the public schools and came to this country with his parents in 1891. He was accustomed to aiding his father on the farm. He entered into the business of general hardware in Van Wert, Ohio then located in Vestal, NY taking up farming becoming one the leading milk dealers of the area. He married in Ohio, Sept. 12, 1906, Martha Gremann born in Harrsion May 18, 1881, daughter of Herman and Mary (Hertz) Germann.

Weeks, Edwin R.
Born in Montrose, Pa., Dec. 20, 1867, son of Edwin L. and Lucretia (Thayer) Weeks. He received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and entered the employ of his fathers shoe store. He later became partners with his father under the firm name of E.L.Weeks & Son. Gfted with various talents, he became a Lyceum entertainer and traveled coast to coast and made a very successful European tour. This period lasted twenty years, when he entered business once again forming a partnership with Giles H. Dickinson with a complete stock of music and musical instruments and known as Weeks & Dickinson. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club. He married in 1903, Grace M. Jillson of Syracuse and had children, Sybil Grace born 1904, Barbara born 1906, Margaret Louise born 1908 and Sally Mae born 1912.

Weeks, John R.
Born in Kalamazoo, Mich. Freb. 3, 1876, son of John A. and May (Little) Weeks, his father a native of New Hampshire and who lived in South Dakota. He received his education in the public schools of Michigan and entered the business life with his father . He later took a business course at Bryant and Stratton's Business College in Buffalo, NY and courses in Mathematics and Science at the University of Chicago. He completed a course in law study at Mercer University in Georgia and was admitted to the bar in Georgia. He entered the United States Weather Bureau and during the war with Germany 1917-1918, he was assinged to assist the Secret Service Department, and served in the state National Guard. He was a member of the American Meterological Society and the American Geographical Society. He married Edna G. Stark of Deer Lodge, Montana and had two children, John G. born Aug. 18, 1902 and Evelyn May born Sept. 27, 1907.

Wehle, Edwin Caspar
Born in Rochester, NY, June 30, 1885, son of John and Elizabeth (Lownguth) Wehle. He was educated in the public schools of Rochester and attended the Mechanic's Institute He went to Washington and became a student at Bliss Electrical School. He employed with Mohawk Electrical Supply after which he came to Binghamton and established Southern Tier Electrical Supply. He was a member of Chamber of Commerce, Electrical Development Society and the Rotary Club. He married 1910, Ada Marie Hall of Rochester and had one son, Richard John born 1914.

Weir, J. Lewis
Born in Rockaway, NY, Jan. 4, 1874, son of Maning and Maragaret (Gregory) Weir. His schooling was obtained in Newton, NJ and he occupied the unique position of being the first to become established in the building and construction work in Johnson City, NY. From 1896 thru 1921, he conducted a most successful business, when he became treasurer and secretary of the Beers Construction Company. He was a member of the Masons and dd Fellows. He married in 1898, Lida J. Russell, and had children, Milton N. born 1900, G. Wilmont born 1902 and Alta L. born 1912.

Welden, Benjamin Franklin
He was the son of James K.and Mary E. Welden, his father long connected with Sisson Brothers a & Welden dry goods, eneterd in the employ of the firm age the age of nineteen and rose to become vice-president and treasurer. He was a member of the board of managers of the Binghamton State Hospital, Binghamton Country Club and the Kiwanis Club. He married Feb. 15, 1922, Mabel Dunn, daughter of Col. George and Sarah Dunn.

West, Frank A.
Born in Binghamton, Sept. 25, 1878, son of Lewis and Julia (Doerner) west, he received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and entered the field of business by accepting a position in the book bindry of F.S.Mackley. In 1901 he established a business of his own which was so successful he incorporated the business under the name of Frank A. West Company, Inc. The reputation of the company for superior workmanship and prompt and careful service was fully earned and had a host of satisfied customers. He was a member of the Masons, Kiwanis, and Odd Fellows. He married Aug. 22, 1908, Sarah E. Smith of Sherman,Pa. They had two children, Ada born 1910 and Carl born 1912.

West, Dr. George J.
Born in Syracuse, NY, Jan. 29, 1859, son of Goerge J. and Dorethea (Ullman) West, both of highly honored families of Germany. He received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and entered Bellvue Hospital Medical School in New York City. He graduated in 1880 and came to Binhamton to open his practice. Three years later, he traveled abroad for special studies in Berlin, Germany taking post graduate courses there before going to Austria where he spent months in further study.Upon his return to America, he took up practice in Auburn, NY but returned to Binghamton four years later where he practiced for the next four years. At that time he established an office in New York City, but returned to Binghamton permanently. He was a member of the Masons and the Broome County Medical Society. He married in 1897 at Christ Church in Philadelphia, Pa. Isabelle Seymour, daughter of Lorenzo and Frances (Seymour) Seymour, being the same name but very distantly related. They had one daughter, Dorthea.

Wescott, Fred L.
Born in the town of Maine, NY, Aug. 25, 1859, son of Nicholas and Margaret (Cornick) Wescott. He recieved his education in the district schools and followed the agriculture pursuits, both on the home farm and later a farm of his own. He engaged in the business as a dealer in coal, feed and fertilizer and established himself in the town of Hooper. He was a member of the Masons. He married Nov. 30, 1887 in Binghamton, Ida May Carman, daughter of John and Julis A. Carman and had children, Clarence born Aug. 16, 1891, Lulu born Apr. 8, 1884 and Harry born Dec. 1895. His wife died Oct. 18, 1915 and he married Dec. 24, 1920, Mrs. O.W.Painter.

Wescott, Joseph R.
Born in Binghamton, Jan. 12, 1882, son of Fred H. and Margaret (Chaffee) Wescott. He received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and entered Rensselaer Polytechic Institute and secured a certificate from New York University. His first experience was in the employ of New York Railroad and in two years he went to Albany with Delaware & Hudson Railroad for the next seven years. He then returned to Binghamton and was employed by S.E.Monroe and later formed a partnership with him, opening offices in the People's Trust building. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, American Association of Engineers and the Masons. He married in 1910, Caroline Sands of Vallonia Springs, NY and had one daughter, Nellie S. born in 1911.

Wheeler, George B.
Born in Yates County, NY, May 17, 1858, son of Philip and Marie (Van Gilder) Wheeler. He received his education in the public schools and learned the carpenters trade. As an apprentice and journeyman, he spent twenty years before entering into business on his own. He then established shops and an office on Court St. and as a contractor served the community. He built an honorable reputation with the many buildings he erected and was well known for as a builder, skillful and reliable. He kept a force of twenty men. He married in 1879, Emma Smith of Allegany County and had a daughter, Blanche, mother and daughter both deceased, he married second, Carrie Carman of Broome County.

Whitaker, Irving F.
Born in Binghamton, Oct. 31, 1892, son of Freeman and Clara (Powers) Whitaker, he received his education in the public schools and was associated with his father in the cultivating of the homestead and in due course of time owned a farm of his own. He made a speciality of retailing milk and steadily added to his success. He married Apr. 15, 1917 in Choconut Center, NY, Lottie M. Rhodes, born in Maine, NY Sept. 30, 1891, daughter of Loren M. and Anna (Zimmer) Rhodes. They had two sons, Loren born July 23, 1918 and Freeman born Feb. 26, 1919.

White, Elmer M.
Born in Nortbridge, Mass., Sept. 14, 1857, son of Calvin J. and Jane (Kingsley) White, he received his education in the public schools of Hartford, Conn. and was employed as a bookkeeper for a short time. His next experience was with a large lithographing concern as a salesman on the road which he continued for six years. Thereafter he became accountant for the Collins estate and in the course of his duties was brought in touch with the street railway affairs in the vicinity, he entered the employ of the Hartford & Wethersfield Horse Railroad Company as a cashier for twenty-two years. In 1905 he went to Birmingham, Ala. as treasurer of the Birmingham Railway Company and then came to Brooklyn with the Coney Island & Brooklyn Railroad. He then came to Binghamton as treaseuer of the Binghamton Street Railway Company and also director of the Vestal Light Company.. He married Oct. 3, 1883 Alice Frazier Hill, of Hartford, Conn. and had one child, Florence May who married F.W.Barnes.

Whitlaw, Archibald MacArthur
Born Cellardyke, Scotland, Dec. 31, 1869, son of Archibald and Jane (Murray) Whitlaw. He obtained his early schooling in Conn. and when the family moved to New York City he completed his education there and in the schools of New Jersey. He obtained employment in the importing house of B. McArthur & Company and served as an apprentice to Lawrence & Company, agents for the Pacific and Cocheo Mills at Lawrence, Mass and Dover, New Hampshire. In 1890 he came to Binghamton and started at the bottom of the ladder with Fowler, Dick & Walker department store. He advanced regularly and was placed in charge of the Lafayette, Indianna stores. He returned to Binghamton in 1910 as their finance officer and in 1912 was vice-president He married in Binghamton, Laura C. Curran , daughter of Charles and Caroline (French) Curran.

Whitlaw, Archibald
Born in 1863 near Glasgow, Scotland, son of Robert Whitlaw, he left school at the age of sixteen and was bound out as an apprentice in the warehouse of W.and G. Miller. Through his uncle, who was a personal frinder of Gilbert Walker, one of the firm of Fowler,Dick and Walker, he heard of Binghamton and was determined to come here. Over much parental opposition he came here in 1882 and soon made good. He was sent to Council Bluffs, Iowa to manage a company store where he remained for sixteen years. He then returned to Binghamton in 1905 where he remained as treasurer and later president of the company. He married in 1895, in Council Bluffs, Effie M. Aylesworth and had two children, Helen and Edna May.

Whitlock, Walter H.
Born in Ithaca, NY, June 29, 1875, son of Ramer V. and Lydia (Lunger) Whitlock and received his education there. He came with his parents to Spencer, NY in 1884 and after his fathers death, he came to Binghamton and attended high school. He graduated from Cornell University Architecture College with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He took up the practice of his profession in Binghamton and was identified with the construction of most important buildings in this city, among them were the Binghamton Central Fire Station, Mary A. Johnson Nurses Home at Binghamton City Hospital, Broome County Tuberculosis Hospital, designed the Masonic Temple and Young Men's Christian Association building. He was a member of the Masons and Odd Fellows. He married in 1913, Lulu I. Ellsworth and had two children, Lawrence E. born in 1914 and Donald R. born 1917.

Whitner, William H.
Born in Buffalo, NY, May 10, 1868, son of Andrew and Katherine (Miller) Whitner, he received his education in his native city and was employed as a cigar maker for ten years.Coming to Binghamotn he began the manufacturing of cigars and established an independent factory. He later sold this interest and entered the employ of F.R.Keyes as salesman. In 1898, he established the business of jobbing tobacco leaf, packing and curing of green tobacco. He occupied the entire building at 24-26 Wall Street and employed fifty people. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Masons. He married in 1891, Rose Fulston of Lockport, NY and had six children, Florence E., Chrales A., Grace M. who married Fred Alber, Hazel R., Edwin J. and Pricilla R.

Whitney, Joshua
Born in Conn., Nov. 24, 1748, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Boardman) Whitney. He married Hannah Greene, daughter of Ebenezer Greene, They had children, Joshua, Sarah married William Guthrie of Bainbridge, NY, Thomas married Polly Gilbert, William, John married Polly Bortell and Hannah who married Deacon Samuel Stow of Chenango Point. Thomas and his brother William were founders of Whitney Point. After the Revolution War Joshua and his family left Connecticut and resided in Hillsdale, NY where they had Lucy who married Franklin Morse of Vestal, NY. They made their way to the Catskills and in 1787 settled in Montgomery County. They had children born on Whitney's Flat were: Olive who married Christopher Eldredge, Eben who married Sallie Green and William who married Charlotte Park of Lisle.

Whitney, Joshua
Born in Conn., son of Joshua and Hannah (Green) Whitney, a lad of fourteen when his parents moved from Connecticut to the shores of the Chenango river, was destined to become the maker and founder of Binghamton. He married in 1793, Rhoda Jewell and had children, Pamela born Apr. 12, 1794 married Thomas G. Whitney, Oscar Carpenter
Born in Jrsey City, New Jersey, Apr. 20, 1867, son of Franklin and Caroline S. (Wheeler) Whitney. He attended several private schools and entered Grammar School in Jersey City and High School in Hoboken, NJ. He studied in the engineering department at Stevens Institute . Upon completion of his technical studies he was employed by Safety Car Heating & Lighting Company, having charge of construction and inspection of gas plants opersted by the firm. He married in Jersey City, Nov. 30, 1892 to Emily Jessica Clark daughter of Moses E. and Emily (Tanner) Clark. hey had two children, Homer Clark born June 19, 1895 married Nancy McIntosh; and Dorothy born July 2, 1900 married James L.Lewis.

Whitney, William J.
Born in Sanford, NY, Jan. 3, 1878, son of Jacob and Rozella (Childs) Whitney, and grandson of Elijah Whitney. The public schools afforded him his education and throughout his life he never ceased to add to his knowledge through intellgently directed reading and keen observation. For over twenty-one years he kept a general store with dry goods and groceries in Sanford which resulted in a very large following. He married at Sidney, NY, Aug. 27, 1900, Cora E. White, daughter of George and Cornelia (Palmer) White.. They had one son, Kennath F.

Wickham, Robert Sloane
Born in Ballston Spa, Saratoga County, NY, Mar.14, 1877, son of Charles H. and Mary A. (McKown)Wickham. His education was obtained in the public schools of Saratoga Springs, NY after which he came to Binghamton and began the study of law in the offices of Babcock, Sperry & Van Cleve while taking a post graduate course at Binghamton High School. He entered Cornell University, was admitted to the bar in 1902 and was an associate in the practice of law in the office of County Judge Nash Rockwood of Saratoga County. Not seeing the opportunity for advancement there he went to New York City and affilated with the Lawyer's Title Insurance and Trust Company for a period of three years. He was offered a partnership with Almiron M. Sperry which he accepted and came to Binghamton permanently. He was a member of the New York State Bar Association, the American Acadmey of Social and Political Science and the Rotary Club. He married Oct. 10, 1905, at Schuylerville, NY, Eloise C. Carpenter, daughter of Alvin R. and Catherine A. Carpenter. They had one adopted son, Alan Reed Wickhamon Dec. 10, 1920.

Wilber, Cortland A.
Born on the home farm in Chenango County, NY, July 26, 1863, son of Charles C. and Lavina (Chapman) Wilber. He recieved his early education in the district schools, became a student at Union Academy and finished at Clinton Liberal Institute. He became a law student in the offices of George P. Purdey of Smyrna, NY and was admitted to the bar in 1889. He began practice in Binghamton, at first alone then in partnership with A.D.Wales. In four years he was to withdraw from this position to become the senior of the firm of Wilber & Yetter. He later formed a partnership with Harry C. Walker, who was retired Lieutenant-Governor of New York, under the name Walker & Wilber. He married Helen E. Lamb, who died in 1891 and second, Alice E. Lamb by whom he had Davis T., Dona and Helen L.

Wilbur, J. Roy
Born in Broome County, NY, Apr. 11, 1874, son of Elias and Melossa A. (Barnum) Wilbur, he received his education in the public schools of Binghamton and completed his preparation for a commercial career at Ridley's Business College. His first business experience was with McKinney Company, wholesale grocers, for which he was connected for five yeras. He then became associated with Mr. Truesdell and was made secretary and treasurer of the company. He served in the Spanich-American War with rank of Major. He was also a member of the Masons. He married in 1898 Lou Quackenbush of Altamont, NY who died leaving one son, Donald. He married second, Mayo A. Barr of Ohio and had Alleen A. and Robert S.

Wilcox, Ralph P.
Born in Kirkwood, Apr. 24, 1885, son of Jerome and Catherine (Croft) Wilcox , he received his education in the public schools of Kirkwood and deceided to enter the field of business. He entered the employ of F.L.Brown, manufacturer of gloves. He spent four years in the service of this company and in 1907 was able to establish himself in business with a small but high class glove shop. His business grew rapidly and he was forced to move to larger quarters to accomodate the needs of his growing business. He entered into partnership with A.L.Willey and C.A.Willey under the firm name of Wilcox Glove Company, Inc. He married Lula M. Folinsbee and had children, Truman R. and Cleone.

Willey, Albert L.
Born in Freeville, Tompkins County, NY, Jan. 18, 1855, son of Samuel B. and Esther (Greenfield) Willey. He was educated in the public schools and academy of the town and opened a saw and grist mill. He did a thriving business and when the oportunity rose to dispose of the business he did so to his advantage. He purchased a farm in Cuba Lake, NY and later carried on the business of a meat market in Cortland, NY. He later returned to Freeville and became proprietor of a general store. In 1895 he came to Broome County and went into the real estate business with offices in Johnson City. He purchased two valuable tracts of land known as the Allen property and the Cook property and plotted them out into residential lots. He continued along this line , doing contracting along with his real estate business.He married in 1875, Helen E. Head of Lansing, Tompkins County, NY. They had children, Clarence A. Horace M. and Frederick R.

Willey, Clarence A.
Born in Tompkins County, NY Aug. 16, 1876, son of Albert L. and Helen E. (Head) Willey, the public schools and Lowell's Business College providing him his education. The first five years were spent in the retail shoe business , under the firm name of Willey & Tolley. In 1910 he formed a partnership with J.J.Tyne known as Tyne & Willey with offices in the Binghamton Savings Bank building. He operated the business throughout New York And Penna, employing over fifty construction men. He was a member of the Masons and Rotary Club. He married in 1902, Anna L. Summer, daughter of Rev. John B. Summer. They had children, Albert Summer born 1905, John T. dy, Horace Raymond born 1907 and Helen Frances born 1913.

Williams, Wayland W.
Born in Fulton, NY Aug. 29, 1890, son of George H. and Grace E. (Whitney) Williams, he received his education in the schools of Ft. Covington and Brasher Falls and entered Syracuse University Law School. He began his pracrice in Oriskany Falls and later moved to Endicott, NY. where he built up a most satisfactory practice. He was justice of peace for the town of Union and clerk of the village of Endicott. He married in Syracuse, June 2, 1917, Mayme(as spelled) Collester, daughter of Fred and Nellie (Allen) Collester. They had one son, Wayland W. born Aug. 21, 1920.

Wilson, Charles S.
Born in roome County, NY, Sept. 24, 1874, son of Alexander and Nancy J,. Wilson. He attended district schools and graduated from Binghamton High School. He. matriculated in the medical department of the University of Buffalo. After receiveing his degree as M.D. and serveing his term as interne, he came to Johnson City and engaged in practice.He was a member of the Masons and Kiwanis.He married in Bingamton, Oct. 20, 1904, Florence E. Beam, daughter of Arthur J. and Nellie Bean. They had children, Charles S. Jr, Alexander and Jane M.

Wilson, Leslie Mclean
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Sept. 25, 1860, son of Thomas of County Antrim, Ireland and Mary (McLean) Wilson. He received his education in the local public schools and entered Nazareth Hall Miltiary School, graduating in 1874. After graduating from Lawrenceville Academy he began the employ of Hancock, Grier & Company, wholesale grain house as a clerk and later was manager of their Wilkes-Barre Offices. In 1881, he went to Scranton, Pa. to take charge of the grain department of Weston Mills Company where he remained for ten years. At this time he came to Binghamton and organized Empire Grain & Elavator Company as president. He was vice president of the Chenango Valley Savings Bank, founder and first president of the Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Health, vice president of the Binghamton Boys Club, a member of the National Grain Dealers Association, president of the Broome County Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Elks and Binghamton Country Club. He married in 1883, Nellie Priscilla Orr of Wilkes-Barre. They had children, all last name, Wilson, Leslie , Jr. born June 21, 1884, Ethel Orr born Aug. 15, 1885, died in infancy, Priscilla Orr born Apr. 4, 1887, Margaret Elizabeth born May 10, 1889, Alexander Dickinson born Feb. 15, 1892, Harold Orr Dec. 27, 1893, died in infancy, Maraion Orr July 23, 1895, Kennath Orr bon Aug.22, 1897, Donald Orr born born Apr. 12, 1900, Nellie Orr born Aug. 12, 1907.

Wilson, Stuart S.
Born in Glenburn, Pa. Oct. 10, 1889, son of Thomas H. and Mary (Strong) Wilson, he received his education in Exter, New Hampshire and graduated from Yale University. He asscoiated with his father in business as member of the Grain & Elevator Company of Binghamton. He began at the bottom and later removed to Deposit where another company was incorperated and he was appointed vice- president. He married in 1914, at Englewood, New Jersey, Elizabeth Whittmore, daughter of Henry and Caroline Whittmore. They had children, Staurt S. Jr., Carol S. and Nancy McLean.

Windrus, Wallace Horner
Born in Belmont, Allegany County, NY, May 4, 1870, son of Cyrus A. and Laura (Noble) Windrus, he received his early education in Belmont and attended Rochester University .He began a banking career as assistant cashier with State Bank of Belmont and from that position went to the State Bank of Allergany. He then served as cashier of the First National Bank of Hallstead, Pa.and in July of 1905, he came to Binghamton as cashier of First National Bank and later treasurer of Workers Trust in Johnson City. He had served as director of the State Bank of Endicott and the Farmer's National Bank . He was a member of the Masons, Shriners and Binghamton Country Club. He married Nov. 28,1917, at Olean, NY to Grace L. Nicholson, daughter of John and Jane Nicholson.

Wood, Frank
Born in Rutledge, Tenn. Feb. 12, 1868, he received his education there. He came to Deposit, NY when a young boy and interested in mechanics, he learned the mechanic's trade and for several years was employed in that capacity. He later became agent for Ford Cars in Deposit and built a large and well-equiped garage. He was a member of the Masons. He married in Binghamton, Libby Bundy of Walton, NY.

Woodburn, Hiram H.
Born in Rome, Bradford County, Pa, Nov. 12, 1864, son of Napatha and Elizabeth (Haven) Woodburn, he recieved his education in the public schools and engaged in railroad work. His first employment was with Delaware,Lackawanna & Western Railroad where he remained for three years, then went with the Delarawe & Hudson Railroad which lasted for twenty-five years. At that time he organized the business of Atlas Coal and Supply Company for the purpose of dealing in coal and building supplies. He was director of the Binghamton Gas Company, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Broome County Sportsman's Association, a member of the Red Men, Loyal Order of Moose and the Binghamton Country Club.

Wooster, Frank Lovell
Born in Binghamton, July 13, 1870, son of James E. and Sarah (Rood) Wooster, he attended the public schools of Fredonia, Chautauga County, NY. He compled his studies under private tutorage and took up the study of law in the offices of Hinman, Howard & Kattell. He was admitted to the bar in 1905 and commenced the practice of his profession in Binghamton, taking as a partner G.W.Eisenhart under the firm name of Wooster & Eisenhart with offices in the O'Neil Building. He was a District Attorney, a member of the Masons and the Red Men. He married Dec. 26, 1899, Florence Estelle Austin of Chenango County.

Woodward, Herbert E.
Born in Rochester, NY, Jan. 2, 1883, son of Warner C., born in Orange, Mass.and Annie (Norris) Woodward, born in England. His first business experience was that of a salesman in the employ of various concerns . Coming to Binghamton, he established hinself under the firm name of Woodward Products Company with spacious offices in the Ackerman Building. He extended his operations, developed his export trade and broadened the varity of goods handled. He was vice president of the Wylie P. Jones Advertising Company, president of the International Druggists and Chemists Laboratories, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Masons. He married in 1905, Elizabeth Harrington of Scranton, Pa. They had one son, Everett H. born in 1918.

Wright, Thomas
Born in Sullivan County, NY, Nov. 30, 1850, son of Thomas and Jane (Bennett) Wright. After completing his formal education, he turned his attention to working about his father's farm and in the years of experience laid the foundation for the success he attained. He made a speciality of dairying and continued to supply the families of Endicott and Union with their daily milk. He was the owner of many fine head of stock and the conditions about his farm and stock barns are the most sanitary , thus insuring highest quality of milk.He married Jan. 1, 1874, in Great Bend, Pa., to Sarah Monell, born there July 7, 1857, daughter of Charles L. and Delia (Cole) Monell. They had children, Charles M. born Oct. 24, 1874, Leona M. born Mya 24, 1879 and William E. born Dec. 23, 1887.
