Revolutionary War Veteran’s of Broome County
Elias Bevier born March 3, 1763 died July 28, 1838, came to Broome County 1815 from New Platz, NY, settled in Conklin. Wife’s name was Sarah. Served in the 4th Militia under Capt. Hasbouch in Battles of Saratoga, Stillwater and Half Moon at Albany. With his team he moved the “Big Chain” from Ridgewood, NJ to the Hudson River and placed it across the Hudson to prevent Brittish Troops from going up the Hudson. He was buried in the Bevier Cemetery and later moved to the Kirkwood Cemetery to make room for a school which was being built.
