Dixcove is a small fishing village and about 20 minutes walk along the coast. One of the main buildings is an Old Slave Fort.
Elmina Castle.
The main Fort housed several hundred slaves awaiting the ships to take them to the Americas. The small gate is where the women were kept.
The last views of the castle left for the men , right for the women. All under the rule of the Mighty Gun!!
The Last sight off Ghana would have been from the small boats that took the slaves to the waiting ships in the harbour.
A Local Artist has painted this picture on a wall to remind us of those days.
