Mae has a recurring role in the TV series Chicago Hope, which can now be seen on Lifetime (and the new episodes are still on CBS but I don't know if she's been in any of those yet). I will update the episode summaries as I see the episodes.

If I put a star (*) by an episode I highly recommend you try to see it if you are a Mae fan.

Tantric Turkey

In this episode, Sara (played by Mae) is going to Mexico with her father for Thanksgiving (her parents are divorced). Meanwhile a little Lama (not llama) boy who is thirteen comes in. He is having panic attacks and Doctor Austin (Sara's mother) wants to find the boy's mother. She finds out that the mother lives in Illinois! So she tracks her down. Other interesting events happen involving Thanksgiving.

Mae isn't in this episode very much, but I must say that her outfit was adorable. ;-)

Bridge Over Troubled Watters

In this episode, it's Take Your (Our?) Daughters to Work DayŽ, so Dr. Austin takes Sara to the hospital with her. Sara wants to stand in on her mother's open heart surgery but, of course, her mother won't let her and tells her to go to her office. Sara instead goes to an operating room where one of the other doctors is taking out a boy's appendix. Later she meets a girl named Clementine who has some sort of cancer and needs bone marrow transplants. At first she has a bad attitude toward Sara, but Sara finally understands that this girl is sick of being in the hospital so much and they become friends.

Karmic Relief*

This is one of the best episodes of Chicago Hope (even though I've only seen a few). Sara has a huge role in this and we can see a lot more of Mae's acting ability. Anyway, after Sara's mother finds out she has a slight medical problem that might cause her not to be picked for a NASA program, she goes away to do yoga and leaves Sara with one of the other doctors from Chicago Hope. Sara is currently into tarot cards. When she tells the doctor that her mother doesn't believe in God he says you have to look for Him to find Him. So Sara goes outside in the middle of the winter, looking for a sign from God, and nearly freezes to death. Luckily it was only "nearly." ;-)

This episode was very different from other episodes of Chicago Hope. A lot of it was told from Sara's point of view. Also I enjoyed this episode because it didn't force things into your head, the plot just sort of glided along naturally. Plus, I like snow. I think it's calming.

The Heavens Can Wait

Sara and Dr. Austin are driving to Sara's school for Dr. Austin to talk about being an astronaut when they get into a car accident involving a drunk driver. Dr. Austin saves her own life as well as Sara's and the drunk driver's lives. She is unwilling to forgive the drunk driver when she learns that she cannot go into space because of some injuries she suffered from the accident. Sara sprains her arm and tells her mother she is a hero. Kind of sappy.

Positive IDs

Sara, once again, has a fairly small role in this episode, although not nearly as small as some of the others. Dr. Austin wants Sara to go to a private school, but Sara, under the influence of her father, wants to grow up to be a beautician and doesn't want to go to a school she "abhors." So she purposely flunks the test that every girl has to take to get into the school. When Dr. Austin finds out, she is very mad and wants Sara to retake it. Sara is upset to find out that her frog has died, along with everything else, but she refuses to accept the fact that it's gone, so she dissects it and ends up cutting herself. She tells her mother that she was operating on it to try to make it better. Sara and Dr. Austin have a talk and decide that Sara doesn't have to go to private school after all.

Memento Mori*

Sara's uncle is sick in the hospital, so she asks Dr. Austin if there is a heaven. Dr. Austin says she doesn't really believe in a heaven, but tells Sara about life cycles and what happens after you die, and that Sara doesn't have to believe what she believes. Sara says okay and asks if she can go down to the hospital cafeteria and get a hot chocolate. As Sara is coming back with her hot chocolate, she gets stuck in an elevator with two doctors, a dead body, and a boy about her age (another cute child actor, Haley Joel Osment), during a power outage at the hospital. When the lights finally come back on, Sara goes back to see her uncle and asks her mom is she can say a prayer for him. She tries to say a prayer she heard from Haley's character in the elevator that he said for the dead body, because they had been discussing what Sara and Dr. Austin had previously discussed. She can't quite remember the prayer, so Dr. Austin suggests they just close their eyes and think nice things about her uncle.

Austin Space

In this episode, Sara once again has a small part. Basically, the plot is that Dr. Austin is helping an astronaut train for going into space and Sara talks to her about the moon and such. There's not that much more to it.

Colonel of Truth

This episode deals with Sara witnessing the death of her friend, an eleven-year-old boy, after he gets hit by a baseball. Sara sees her mother trying to revive him unsuccessfully. After that she pretends like it never happened and refuses to take a day off from school. At school, she hits a boy, and the teacher calls Dr. Austin to the school. Sara runs into the field where Dr. Austin talks to her about the boy's death. Sara says it was her mother's fault that he had died, but her mother tells her otherwise.
