| The Colonies Belong to England |
In 1760, England had thirteen colonies in America. England\'s army protected the colonies. The colonists were expected to obey the laws England made for them.Between 1764 and 1773, England passed many laws for the colonies. The laws made the colonists pay taxes. Taxes are moneys that people have to pay to their government. England passed other laws. Only English ships could carry American products. Only factories in England could make some products, like wool clothes, to sell to other countries. Many colonists became angry with England. They thought the laws and taxes were unfair. Some colonists wanted to decide what was best for America. The colonists had meetings to talk about what they should do. |
