WISP OF LIGHT
An unusual wisp of light and an unexplained transparent oddity at
Caddo Lake, TX.
The large picture in the center was reduced. The pictures on either side
were not.
Caddo Lake in far east Texas has been considered a mystical place as far
back as by the Native Americans that inhabited the area. It is actually a
Cypress Swamp, and the with cypress trees with Spanish moss dangling out
of them add to this mystical quality.
My son and I headed off to Caddo Lake for a day trip... it is a wonderful
escape from the city. Not having put much thought into it, neither of us
had taken into consideration that with all of the torrential rains that
east Texas had been receiving, the Lake would probably be flooded. It was.
If you look closely at this small shaded shack that is used for canoe
rentals, you will notice that the water is actually covering about a third
of the this little building.
When I saw this, there was something about it that really grabbed my
interest, yet I didn't know what it was. It had almost an eerie feel to it
so I took a picture.
If you look at the far right of this picture (at the center of the right
hand side), you will see a wisp of light. This is the same thing shown in
the smaller picture to the right of the main picture.
Please note that no light is reflecting on anything in this darkened area.
The wisp is almost transparent in spots. It appears to be in front of the
wooden frame and its edges extend past it. It is obviously not light
reflecting off of something.
The dark line that you see in the photo on the left looks like someone
used a magic marker on the photo. This is not the case. It is on the
negative in reverse so whatever it is was there when the picture was
taken. My next thought was that it might have been a long, soggy, brown
leaf of some sort but if you look carefully, you can see that it is
somewhat transparent...the darkness of the letters shows through. I ruled
out it simply being a drawn line on the wooden sign as well because the
line extends down below the edge of the sign. This portion was not as
clear in the previously scanned images (they were much darker and the
bottom portion blended into the background although it is very clear on
the photo itself). This portion is just another weird curiosity as far as
I am concerned.
