ATLANTA (Reuters) - A Georgia judge Tuesday ordered singer Bobby Brown, arrested last week in Atlanta on drug and speeding charges, to stand trial later this month on 1996 charges including driving under the influence of alcohol.

Brown, the 33-year-old husband of pop diva Whitney Houston, stood silently in a courtroom in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur, Georgia, as DeKalb County Judge Wayne Purdom ordered him to return to court on Nov. 25 to face trial on the six-year-old misdemeanor charges.

Purdom also told the rhythm and blues singer to remain in the state of Georgia and to report to county authorities each week until the trial. Brown had failed to appear in court after his 1996 arrest.

Xavier Dicks, Brown's lawyer, said he had held talks with DeKalb County prosecutors in an effort to resolve the 1996 charges.

"I'm confident that we'll resolve this case," possibly before the trial date, Dicks said.

Brown was arrested in 1996 and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, failure to show proof of insurance, speeding and failing to maintain a lane while driving.

Gwen Keyes, solicitor for DeKalb County, said the maximum penalty for any misdemeanor was up to a year in jail.

The 1996 charges resurfaced when the singer was arrested last Thursday in Atlanta and charged with possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance.

After Brown posted bond for those charges, Atlanta police turned him over to authorities in nearby DeKalb County.

Brown, whose hit songs include "My Prerogative" and "Don't Be Cruel," is scheduled to appear in an Atlanta court next month to answer the charges stemming from last week's arrest.

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Singer Bobby Brown used a criminal court appearance Friday to promote his new movie and sign autographs. State court Judge Wayne Purdom allowed Brown to remain free on bond on charges of driving under the influence and failure to appear in court. Brown, whose attorney said he was not prepared to plead, is free at least until his next court appearance Tuesday. Brown, who was approached by fans in the courtroom after the hearing, apologized to anyone he may have hurt. "I'm just looking forward to performing and touring. That's what I'm looking to do. I'm a lot better at that than driving," Brown said. Brown was arrested in Atlanta early Thursday on charges of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance. His appearance Friday in Decatur was for charges dating to 1997: failing to appear in court, driving under the influence, speeding, failing to maintain a lane and having no proof of insurance. "Stay away from drugs, don't drink and drive, don't do anything you're not supposed to do, go to school and eat your vegetables," Brown said. He said his upcoming movie, "Guns and Roses," will be released next year.

Changed or not? A few cd stores online as well as Arista website have changed the release date for "Just Whitney" to December. A few days ago, Whitney's official fanclub reported that Whitney was still working on a few songs but that the album was still schedule for Nov. 26. We are waiting for an official statement.

Whitney's proposed one-hour "Primetime" interview with Diane Sawyer has been listed in a TV schedule for November 13 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC-TV. (from whitney-fan)

Radio station 105.1 FM in Miami, Fla., played "My Love," Whitney and Bobby's new unreleased duet from Just Whitney. The audience response to the song was very positive. there's a possibility the song may have reached radio at this time due to the album's leak on the Internet.

According to Groovevolt.com, Whitney has been sent back to record three more songs with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Irv Gotti at the request of L.A. Reid. They also said that "Tell Me No" (feat. Santana)will be the single for the USA.

Over the past weekend, Whitney completed work on the filming for her next video, "Whatchulookinat," the first single to be released from Just Whitney, in stores this November! The video was directed by Kevin Bray, who directed Whitney in her last video, "Fine," a single released from her Greatest Hits compilation. U.S. entertainment news show Access Hollywood will air an interview with Bobby Brown on Thursday to talk about his movie "Guns & Roses".

I found this on BBC text: The MOBO's organisers have denied Whitney Houston has pulled out of the ceremony, saying she was never asked anyway. Reports in Thursday's papers claimed that she'd dropped out.
But when we spoke to the MOBO office, they told us she was never in the running to either perform or pick up the lifetime achievement award.

Murder Inc.'s Irv Gotti talked to MTV about Bobby's upcoming single with Ja Rule and his attempts to sign Bobby to the label.

I'm finally back to tell you the news about Whitney and Bobby! (thanks to people who sent news!)

Here is the cover of Whitney's new album, "Just Whitney...". This album will be released in November.

"WhatChuLookinAt" can be heard on a few Belgian radio stations as "Donna", "NRJ" "Fun Radio". The single and maxi single should be on sale in a few days.

Bobby gave an interview to Extra from the location of his new movie "Guns & Roses", also stared by Lil' Kim. He also mentionned Whitney. Lisa from whitney-fan has the RealVideo and you can see it by clicking here.

MCM broadcasted "L'intégrale de Whitney Houston", playing a selection of her videos. The magazine "Déferlante R&B" wrote an article about Whitney, it contains a few errors and talk about the "problems" a bit too much.

When Bobby Brown's sister LeLe came to see me while I was in Atlanta, she told me that Bobby has really changed. To show what she meant, LeLe told me about the time that Bobby and Whitney were going into a restaurant along with other members of the family. Whitney went in first because she was going to get a table for them and Bobby was shortly behind her. When Whitney entered the restaurant, two White men sitting at a table looked up at Whitney very disrespectfully and said, "Hey Whitney, how you doing? Your husband still beating you up?" Bobby overheard their crude remark, and if this had happened at another time, there would have been hell to pay. Them's fighting words, pardner. Bobby would have been ready to fight. Instead, a calmer more mature Bobby walked over to the men and shook their hands and said, "I'm Bobby Brown and I have never hit my wife. I have a mother and sisters. (He respects and loves them dearly.) Bobby sat down and talked to the men for about two hours and by the end of the conversation, the men were apologizing and telling Bobby they were out of line. Bobby is recording an album for Arista Records. He's also doing a movie with Whoopi Goldberg in Sacramento. And, he's slated to appear in a movie with his fellow New Edition group members. The group also has plans to write a book.

Whitney's back, with a song produced by her down for life husband, Bobby Brown. Whatever the story is, she always comes through with flying colors. Her voice is as immaculate as ever. This is an upbeat song about people telling lies and trying to dirty up her name. This is the first single taken from her upcoming album due this fall.

According to BET, Whitney is finishing her album and LA Reid confirmed that "You Light Up My Life" will be the 1st single for the USA. As WYLA is doing good in Europe, this song could be the 1st single in Europe.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's song featuring Bobby won't be on the group's album. It might be on a single as a Face B.

Yes, that was pop diva Whitney Houston and her hubby Bobby Brown applauding with the other proud parents at Brockton High School the other night at the Lisa Kaplan Dance Studio recitals. Bobby's little girl LaPrincia was one of the stars of the show. She's Bobby's daughter by ex-galpal Kim Ward, who lives with LaPrincia and Bobby Jr. in Sharon. By the way, Brown, a Roxbury homey, seemed to have recovered just fine from that mystery infection that sent him to a hospital in Virginia last week. We're so relieved.
