This is the Arlington House, a fully restorated Antebellum house in the middle of downtown Birmingham. I worked here a couple of times as a tour guide because I was a Birmingham Belle from 1997-1998. |

Birmingham is home to the largest iron statue (55ft tall) in the world, representing Vulcan, God of the Forge. It was sculpted by Guiseppe Moretti and was given to the city after the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1904. The light in its hand is green except on days when someone has been killed in a car accident, and then it is red. Vulcan sits atop Red Mountain and faces downtown Birmingham, but Homewood is "over the mountain" and so we are privileged enough to view his large rear end, which is not covered. |
