When we decided to take a vacation trip to South Dakota, the Rapid City Convention and Visitors Bureau provided valuable travel information. They recommended the Edelweiss Mountain Lodging for weekly rentals. Judy and Vergil, the Edelweiss owners were very helpful and gave us their web site address. It contains information about the Black Hills and also descriptions and photos of their rental homes. www.edelweiss-blackhills.com We flew into the Rapid City Regional Airport. Rapid City has a population, not counting tourists, of 55,000. We drove our rental car to Edelweiss Mountain about 20 miles west of Rapid City. We passed by scenic Pactola Lake.
The house we rented was near the top of the mountain. The road to the house was a steep dirt road, loaded with switchbacks, through aspen and pine forests. The house was completely furnished with lots of glass and decks for checking out the great views.
We enjoyed the hot tub out on the deck off the living room even though the temperatures were in the 30's. It was fun being out there surrounded by trees and yet being able to watch the sun set over the mountains.
We built fires in the wood stove which was relaxing to watch in the evenings.
There was a deck off the upstairs master bedroom. It was real nice to wake up to such a great view of the sunrise. The bedroom also had a wood stove.
We prefer renting single homes when we go on vacation and liked the housing offered by the Edelweiss Mountain Lodging. |
