"Dearest Jean, It was so nice to hear from you and learn all the news.
Yes I remember when we were going to meet you. Now I can tell you what happened. Jim [Dougherty] and I were going to see his cousins earlier. When it came time to leave he was enjoying himself so he wouldn't leave. I beg[g]ed him to and didn't know how to drive so I was just out of luck. I was so afraid I would never hear from you again. Someday when I see you I shall tell you more things.
I got my divorce in Las Vegas Nevada. It took about two months or more, but I stayed with a distant Aunt [Minnie Willette] during that time. I was in the hospital twice -- first with an acute mouth infection (I had four wisdom teeth pulled). I was out of the hospital for just one day and they put me back with the measles.Oh what an awful time.
Its wonderful to be a free woman again.. I just hope I'm not crazy enough to get into another mess. I'm not hardly going out at all because I have so much to learn and study and to tell you the truth I'd rather stay home and study than to go out with some old wolf.
I'm very happy about being under contract to Fox. Every one at the studio has been wonderful to me and they say they are sure I have a big future ahead of me so that does make me happy.
I modelled here in Hollywood. I was asked to go back to New York twice once for Powers and the other for Conover but that is when every thing was happening. Three different studios wanted me and I was going to get a divorce so I didn't go. The photographer's studio is in New York but he [André de Dienes] came out here to take the picture. By the way he is very nice and I like him a lot. He wants me to marry him but I'm a little bit leary about this marriage business now and besides at the studio they want me single at least until I have become well known (when & if!). But André is a wonderful person and does every thing in the world he can for me.
At the present I'm still with my aunt. Jim, I heard was out of the service. Also he is going to be married shortly. So far I think my screen [name] will be (Clare Norman). Please write soon Jean, I would love to see you and hope you will make California for your next vacation, (why not your home?) Love Always Norma Jeane. P.S. Regards to Vol[ney]."
