Promotions and decorations have always been a key part of the military system and as such, are important to the functional operation of any organization. Promotions are gained by hardwork and dedication. Awards are earned for duties above and beyond that normally expected in the performance of ones duties. Decorations

Decorations are standard US, and USMC awards that were issued during WW II.  Since many of our members may be former or current members of the US Armed Forces and/or have family members who were awarded these awards, the Command Staff of VMF-214 wants to inform all that the use of these awards are taken seriously.  A recommendation for an award, (Medals, Ribbons, & Letters) will be submitted in writing via the writers' chain of command, with each member of the chain of command placing their endorsement on the write-up.  Endorsement will either be forwarded recommending approval or approval not recommended, in which case a not recommended endorsement will be forwarded with a written justification.  All awards will be submitted based on the actual award criteria from the US Decorations and Awards Manual.  Criteria may be obtained by contacting the S-1 Officer. The recommendation will be reviewed by the command staff and forwarded to the CO for action. All recommendations will be sent to the S-1 Officer with a copy to the XO. (THE ONLY DECORATION THAT WILL NOT BE AWARDED IS THE MoH, AND WE NEED NOT SAY WHY!!!)

To earn the title, "ACE," you must have five confirmed kills and each kill must be confirmed by two squadron members.  Confirmation letters from those confirming a kill, or kills, must be received by the S-1 Officer not later than (NLT) two days after the Mission or the kill(s) will not count.  Once a write-up is received by the S-1 Officer, it will be sent to the CO for action.  The S-1 will ensure that the XO, S-3, and S-2 are provided copies of the write-up(s).
