Links Awakening | ||||||||
Sadly, I do not own this game (or a game boy, for that matter) and have only played it once all the way through. This game is probably the most unique of the Zelda games. The plot has nothing to do with the Triforce, or even Hyrule for that matter. No princess, no Master Sword, only a nightmare Ganon, and no looming catastrophe. But it did have Link, a sword, boomerang, and plenty of difficult dungeons. The graphics were pretty good for a Game Boy, and the sound was OK. I don't particularly like some of the aspects, such as having your sword and shield count like normal items, roc's feather, and the Mario enemies. However, it did bring back the sorely missed secret passages of Zelda 1, and who can complain about bomb arrows? Perhaps the best thing about this game is its difficulty. This game was long, hard, and involved numerous puzzles. All of this was reminiscent of Zelda 1, and made me strangely nostalgic. The game and the goals are actually much like the first Zelda game, which is probably a good thing. However, of course, the story left something to be desired. All in all, it was a great game and I enjoyed playing it, but it does not hold as much meaning to me as the other Zelda games. | ||||||||
